Kevin,

I like toe flowers. To me, it is a piece of the bootmaker's art, especially if he has his own unique toe flower style. I am not a big fan of white toe flower stitching, especially on black vamp boots. Eventually, no matter how careful you are, it will get black too. I like the toe flower stitch to match to top stich color when possible.

Keeping them clean depends on the conditions you wear your boots, ie., office, work, barn, dirt & mud, etc. So far, I have not too many issues with getting my toe flowers dirty, so I just use liquid glycerine saddle soap like on the rest of the boot. Keep colored creams away from the toe flower, or it will work its way to the stitching.

I have a pair of boots that were display boots, one of the boots seems to be lighter in color, probably due to sun exposure from being in a window. The boots are a light tan, but one of the boots is just slightly lighter in color. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I could match the two boots to the same shade of tan?

Thanks, Emmett

I went to Denmark this summer and was in a museum and took some photos of boots that I was told date to the 1840's to 1850's. Notice the pegging, looks like three rows to my eyes. Emmett

POLICE CHASE RUNAWAY KANGAROO IN N. TEXAS NEIGHBORHOOD

Dash cam video showed officers hot on the trail of the kangaroo as it maneuvered through many streets and yards at about 4:15 p.m.

LEWISVILLE, Texas - Lewisville police were called to help capture a kangaroo that escaped from a veterinarian?s home and hopped loose in a heavily populated neighborhood on Sunday.

After about 20 minutes, police captured the 60-pound kangaroo in a back yard in the 800 block of Ramblewood Drive.

An officer grabbed the kangaroo's tail and held him until he was returned to the veterinarian.

Police said no charges were filed against the kangaroo.

emmett,

On your display boots, could you post a picture of the display boots that are lighter in color? Maybe we can come up with some suggestions. I don't believe they can be brought back to original though.

Quick question: when one is getting a custom-made, wooden-pegged boot resoled, should the resoles be pegged, too, or is that something that is done only when the boot is made originally?

Thanks!

Jerry,

Several custom bootmakers do not do a full sole when resoling a pair of boots. It was explained to me that there is nothing wrong with the shank area and the area around the pegs, so why do it. It may cause more problems later. Take it to a good custom bootmaker, and he will do a 1/2 sole that you have to look twice at to be sure it is not a full sole job. I believe I have published pictures here of a great 1/2 sole job that Tex did for me.
