Once in third grade a lot of people thought I went to the principal, but I really didn't.

Rumors are like the game telephone someone tells someone something and that person tells someone and adds something a little bit more than the rumor already started to make it sound good. The people who tell rumors think that there cool and funny but are they really? NOPE.

Being trustworthy and spreading rumors are very different and I will show you. Trustworthy means that you can trust a friend, you can depend on your friend or you can trust he or she will come back. Rumors are bad because they are not good choices, like in Mr. Peabody’s Apples, Tommy told rumors about Mr. Peabody and couldn’t get them back. So, just be a friend!

Honesty is something that makes everyone feel good. Honesty is definitely a better choice then lying. In the book Mr. Peabody’s Apples by Madonna Mr. Peabody was honest because he didn’t steal the apples, he paid for them when he got his milk. Tommy should have found out the truth before he spread the rumor about Mr. Peabody.

After reading Mr. Peabody’s Apples by Madonna I thought about trustworthiness. Trustworthiness is the trust you have for someone and the choices you make. You can make a bad choice and tell a lie. That can lead to someone losing trust in you. Or you can make a good choice and tell the truth. Honesty is very important and trust the power of your words.

Choose your words wisely. Don’t choose words that you know will hurt someone’s feelings. Don’t let the power of words interfere with yourself. If someone says words that you know are wrong, try not to listen. If you do hear the words that you know are bad don’t say them even though your friend or someone might have said the words. In the book Mr. Peabody’s Apples Tommy sees Mr. Peabody take an apple without paying. Tommy tells about everyone in Happville. Tommy didn’t find enough information about why Mr. Peabody had done it. Tommy finds out that every morning when Mr. Peabody gets his milk he pays for his apple, but he picks it up later that day. So remember the power of your words matter because once you’ve said something it’s very hard to take it back.

Respect is when you do not touch anyone’s things without asking. You don’t tell anything about someone that is not true. Respect is also the opposite of what Tommy was doing. Respecting people is not doing anything that would hurt someone.

After reading Mr. Peabody’s Apples by Madonna one of the pillars I could relate to the story was Trust. A trustworthy person would be honest. Mr. Peabody trusted Tommy not to tell lies like I trust all of my friends not to tell lies. A trustworthy person would be liked because they wouldn’t tell lies to their friends or about them. Mr. Peabody was a very honest man and had a lot of friends. When Tommy saw Mr. Peabody take an apple and not pay for it he immediately thought Mr. Peabody was stealing. I think Tommy should have asked Mr. Peabody before he told his friends and a lot of people in Happville. That is what I would have trusted my friends to do. Tommy learns that what he did was wrong when Mr. Peabody tells him to cut open a pillow and shake out the feathers. After Tommy does that Mr. Peabody tells Tommy to collect all the feathers. Tommy thinks that is impossible then realizes what he has done. Mr. Peabody then says, “It didn’t matter what it looks like what matters is the truth.”

Rumors won’t just hurt the person that you are telling the rumor about. It can sometimes hurt you too for telling people about the rumor. Rumors can really hurt people when you tell something about them that are not true. Sometimes people tell rumors about people to act cool and if you do that you can lose your friends. If you tell rumors just to kid around some people can take it seriously and won’t trust you anymore.

1. Do you lie? Lying is a bad thing to do. When you lie your friends do not trust you. Some lies lead to rumors and it gets bigger. They hurt the person that did the wrong thing.

Someone spread something bad about me and it wasn‘t true. I felt very bad, and I got very hurt, so I never talked to the person again. Would you never talk to the person again?

Once when I was carrying a glass to the kitchen, I dropped the glass in the living room. My little sister called me a klutz. It made me feel bad. I told her how I felt and she said she was sorry, but it wasn’t enough. My feelings were still hurt. But she is my sister, so I forgave her.

Yes, one time I said something that I found out wasn’t true and I wanted to take it back and it wasn’t easy to take back.
Did you ever hear a rumor spread about you and then spread a rumor about the person who first said the rumor? Why do you think you did that?
When you first heard the story, did you think that Mr. Peabody really stole the apples or did you think the apples were prepaid?
Do you think the rumor about Mr. Peabody “stealing” apples spread? Did it hurt his reputation? Wouldn’t you feel hurt? Wouldn’t it hurt your reputation if someone spread a rumor about you? Wouldn’t you be hurt?

One time my friends accused me of something that wasn’t true. It made me feel angry. But later I made up with my friends.

I spread a rumor when I said that someone sat in the front seat of the bus because they were naughty, but he just needed help with his homework. I regretted it when the bus driver said that it was not true and the person felt hurt and sad. Then I learned my lesson.
