I would like to propose that we send a representive from the each district to the Latino/Hispanic Conference in Greenville NC (East Carolina). The conference fee is 39.00.

Why don't we take a little discussion for two days and then I will take a vote from the CC.

I am also mostly interested in reading in the content areas and preparing for the new science test. It seems possible that these two areas could dovetail nicely.

I have just completed a lit review for middle school content area reading. I was especially interested in stratgies to promote reading in science since the new testing program is on its way. I'd like to see reading in the content area with or without the emphasis on science. I do think science teachers are going to be interested in receiving some help.

I am interested in science and reading in the content area. I am looking into NC-ISE for developing a plan for K-2 science; it has a strong writing component. Are any of you familiar with that?

I favor the idea of combining reading in the content area with the science needs. I also think that high school social studies teachers need support in preparing for the new test version.

I talked with Tony Harper and he thinks the Latino/Hispanic conference on Feb 26th would be a good follow-up activity to the ESL workshop for our continued planning to meet the needs of ESL students. I suggested that we have a representative from each district, preferably from the Coordinating Council. There has been no discussion on this so I am assuming that it is okay to go forward with this proposal and to pay for attendance with Partnership money. If you are interested in going to the conference please let me know and I will make arrangements. So far I am the only one going. Information on the conference below:

Are any of you interested in going to the Latino/Hispanic Education Conference Feb 26th in Greenville, NC? Attendance will be sponsored by the Coordinating Council. This should help us plan activities for the Partnership schools. It would be preferable for CC members to go but if you know someone from your district who could go let me know? Those who attend the conference will act on a committee for the CC to continue follow-up ESL activities for the Partnership. So far, only Alexander has responded.
