What does this cartoon mean?

The cartoon is mysterious. Is it like one of those kaons you read about in Zen? The main thing that I notice is that the monk offers food to someone who is happy, but in the last seen the monk seems suprised or is checking to see what has been done with the food. But I don't think there is a way to determine what this means.

1) Try it on kids. Let's here their answers.
2) Tell someone it is funny. Ask them if they get the joke.

I wonder if men and women will find a different meaning for this cartoon?

The religious conservatives are delighted to see the military perform for them.

The religious conservatives who are in power reward the military with 'cake'.

Uh-oh. Something's wrong. The military is abandoning the religious conservatives. The religious conservatives look back in regret but the military keeps walking away.
