Dec.18 Meeting Attendees:Becky Wells, Kathy Howell, Marc Gamble, Jenny Risk (30 min), Pat Morrison (15 min)

>We primarily discussed the need for ASU to get the placement letter and/or the request form to begin student teaching with the public school calendar out sooner to the student teachers (especially those working in PDS sites)most received the form at their permanant address away from campus and were unable to get signatures
>We planned for topics of discussion at the Jan. 2 meeting.
>Briefly discussed the posssibility of Marc attending the convention in Orlando.

>January 3 Required meeting of all cooperating teachers went very well. Only two were not in attendance. Coteaching strategies were well received. Teachers voiced concerns that their student teachers had not been in contact with them. We reminded them of the official start date of Jan.14 and encouraged them to make the first contact via email.

Linda, please understand that with the snow and starting a NEW semester with new courses and studens, things are just a LITTLE busy here.
1. Marc Gamble is out the rest of this week so I will be unable to get an answer from him re:conference until Monday. I will AGAIN approach Mr.Howell and Jenny Risk. Alex gave us a definite no.
2. Student teachers are not required to be here until Monday, January 14. We will need until the end of January to get them "ready" for filming. I will send your request for dates to those who areed to film before. Pat Morrison doesn't have a student teacher this semester; perhaps Alex Rollins will be willing to participate.
3.I will AGAIN approach possible new members. I am planning to allow the Wednesday, January 30 Meet and Greet at the Broyhill to substitute for our regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday, January 22. I posted an email concerning this on the Sharing Q Topic.
I can email and I can ask, but I can't force answers. Sorry.

We have someone to film classes this fall. He is a professional so we don't need to worry about girlfriends, drugs etc. Please send me a schedule for visits as soon as possible. He will also need to meet with you before the first visit to the school.

No big surprise...I was confused. I met with Linda McCalister and some folks from the Avery Focus group on Dec.4 to begin planning the "Meet and Greet" for January. If we could meet on Dec.18 as scheduled to discuss that meeting as well as the Jan.2 required meeting for all cooperating teachers, and we HAVE to finalize plans for Orlando. Tuesday, Dec.18 at 3:30 in the conference room. Thanks!

Disregard that last posting. It appears that we are meeting on Dec.4 after all. Broyhill Inn 4:15 "shared" meeting with Avery and ASU folks. We will substitute the Dec.4 meeting for Dec.18.

The Ashe PDS Focus Group is scheduled to meet on Tuesday, Dec.18 at 3:30 in the conference room. We need to discuss Orlando at that time. Marc? I will make sure Mr.Howell is aware of the meeting and the national conference in Orlando.

Understandable Alex-although we will miss you. Please let me know if anyone is interested in attending this year. Thanks

I discussed going to Orlando for my 4th National PDS Conference with my wife over the weekend and we decided it will be best for me not to go. With an infant, the building of our new house, and being in coaching season I think it is wiser for me to stay home this year. Sorry. If I can get Leigh Howle on board I'll ask her!

Focus Group Meeting Tuesday, Novmeber 20
Attendees: ASU: Linda McCalister, Sandra Oldendorf, and Kathy Howell
ACHS: Becky Wells, Carmen Wilson, Pat Morrison, Alex Rollins, Marc Gamble

>Mr. Howell approved a required meeting for all cooperating teachers on January 2, 2008 at 8:30 in the ACHS media center; Kathy Howell will represent ASU and Becky Wells will represent the Ashe PDS Focus Group; the purpose of the meeting is to emphasize the importance of coteaching as an essential part of the student teaching experience; a handout describing a variety of coteaching methods will be provided.

>Linda McCalister is locating someone to film our coteaching video clips this spring. Joe Murphy has an advanced class which may have grad students looking for a "project"; Sandra Oldendorf also mentioned Jeff Fletcher (ASU) as a possibility. Dr.Oldendorf also expressed the need for a promotional video that could be used by secondary ed folks for recruitment purposes; could we use the video footage used to create our coteaching power point to also create a promo?

>Alex Rollins has agreed to go to Orlando to present at the National PDS conference; I was asked to speak with Mr.Howell about attending. The group discussed the need for fresh faces to get involved: Marc Gamble will ask Jenny Risk, Alex Rollins will ask Leigh Howle, and Becky Wells will ask Jennifer Phipps.

The Ashe and Avery PDS Focus Groups will have a Sharing Meeting on Dec.4 at the Broyhill Inn from 4:30-6:30. Linda McCalister will invite the ASU Secondary Ed Advisory Committee members to attend. Becky Wells will invite Phil Howell as well as the "new" members to attend. The purpose of the meeting will be to promote greater collaboration between the public school cooperating teachers and the university methods instructors. Marc Gamble and Sandra Oldendorf agreed to share their successes with bringing the public school teacher into the methods instruction.
