Perhaps this group should consider a password. What do all of you think?

Group, it looks like our filmer has decided not to do the work. I can't say this for sure because I cannot contact him. However, I will probably not let him do the filming at this point given his track record. I think we should move toward the spring for filming and set the dates early. Joe Murphy has some ideas for his advanced media class to work with us. What do you think?

Ashe PDS Meeting October 15, 2007
*this meeting did replace the originally scheduled meeting on October 23.

Attendees: ASU:Linda McCalister and Kathy Howell
ACHS: Becky Wells, Marc Gamble, Pat Morrison, Polly Jones, and Jenny Risk Student teachers: Ruth Ashe, Jennifer Baldwin, April Blevins, Ryan Chapman, Diana Cook, Alyssa Finneyfrock, Chelsey Gray, Jolie Nance, and Jeremy Shelton.

Ashe PDS Focus Group met with all student teachers and cooperating teachers to give them an opportunity to discuss any issues that have come up during the first half of their student teaching experience. Student teachers shared some experiences with handling discipline and continuing the appropriate student/teacher relationship. The STs also shared their concerns over the lack of information/assistance with the technology portfolio in specific subject areas at the secondary level. Dr.McCalister made note of those areas and agreed to follow up with their concerns. She also shared her office phone# with the STs in the event that they have any other concerns/frustrations with the completion of student teaching.

Student release forms were distributed for those teachers filming.
Dr.McCalister is also in charge of locating a videographer for the Co-Teaching Project. The following dates were scheduled:

Thursday, October 25 - 1st Polly Jones/Chelsea Gray - alternate teaching
                       2nd Marc Gamble/April Blevins - team teaching
                       3rd Pat Morrison/Jolie Nance - station teaching
Thursday, November 15- 2nd Marc Gamble/ April Blevins - team teaching
                       3rd Becky Wells/Jeremy Shelton - 1 teach/ 1 support

Next PDS Focus Group Mtg. is scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 20.

I put down Oct.15th at 1:00 on the Partnership calendar. Do you all want that to be your meeting for Oct. instead of the 23rd.

If anyone has a picture that they would like for me to post as the picture (at the top) for a while send it to me. I think we need something new. It can be a workshop, group picture or anything else you would like. Thanks

Ashe PDS Meeting September 18, 2007

Attendees:

Linda McCalister, Becky Wells, Phil Howell, Carmen Wilson, Kathy Howell, Alex Rollins, Marc Gamble, Sandra Oldendorf, and Pat Morrison.

Items of Discussion:

1. A meeting of all current student teachers was scheduled for 1 pm on Monday, October 15. We will begin the meeting with a general discussion/questions and concerns. The focus of the meeting will be sharing co-teaching successes and planning for the filming of a variety of co-teaching models in ACHS classrooms. Becky Wells will get a copy of the co-teaching document out to each cooperating teacher and student teacher prior to the meeting in addition to notifying them of their expected attendance at the Oct.15 meeting.

2. In regards to the actual filming of the co-teaching models, Linda McCalister agreed to locate a videographer at ASU. The folks at Ashe will determine the filming schedule based on the availability of the videographer. Additionally, Linda McCalister agreed to check on the need for an IRB waiver for filming ASU students. Becky Wells will reword the National Boards Certification release form for Ashe students in classrooms that will be filmed.

3. Becky Wells voiced concern over the current process of placing interns. Sandra Oldendorf explained that the NC Teaching Fellows director releases those interns to her as the social studies methods instructor. It was suggested that Linda McCalister speak to the NCTF director and suggest that the same placement procedure for internships should occur in all other departments. Phil Howell asked that ASU methods instructors contact him with a hard copy of all interns needing to be placed for his/her department. Then the principal would contact his department chairs at ACHS to place interns. Methods instructors should no longer go directly to the department chairs at the participating public schools. Also, Linda McCalister clarified that interns can be placed in the same classroom as a student teacher if there is no other placement option.
