Filters. It's all about filters. Look at the human body. The energy system is full of filters for extracting energy, cleaning the system, removing waste. A good community is one with good filters in the right places.

Can we "evolve" social filters when the hardware (wires or code) filters don't exists?

Great over-view Jason!

In a perfect world Jason would have the guest spot here inperpetuity. Anyone who puts Fido and Psygnosis in historicaly relevenat context when talking about the de jourisms needs to be heard more by the many.

Best. Guestbar. Ever.

Jason, you should definately start your own fulltime "blog." I would absolutely subscribe. I always enjoy hearing people get all nostalgic about BBS', like I do all the time. :)

Keep up the amazing work!

Wonderfully relevant post, given the removal of quicktopic links from the main BoingBoing page. And a great read.

Nice thoughts on the durability of human nature. We can never get out of the way of ourselves. Striving for success usually brings out the best in people. Achieving it often brings out the worst.
