The three literary devices are foreshadowing, similies, and imagery. Forshadowing: when Algernon starts becoming less smart. He won't work the maze any more and he bites Charlie. Quote: He is less co-operative, he refuses to run the maze any more; general motivation is decreased.
( pg 27). Imagery:Charlie is getting smarter. He is noticing more stuff."She has brown eyes and feathery brown hair that somes to the top of her neck." (pg 21)
Similie: "Then the second time I losr because I got so excited I fell off the chair before I finished." ( pg 14.)

The 3 literary devices are point of view, imagery, and metaphorical language. The example of imagery is: They sat smoking for a full minute watching each other, and then Jimmy released the emergency and they rolled slowly along the drying sand road and down past the huge cleansing dawn coming, and the pine forests growing tall in the rising mists, and the quickly quiet waters of eternal spring. An example of metaphorical language is: the snakehead lashed out and struck like springsteel and the branch snapped like a stick of macaroni, and it all happened fast as a match flare. An example of point of view is: This story is personal point-of-view because it only shows what Jimmy and Tony think, not the turtle.

Find passages in "The Turtle" that show examples of literary devices. Your group must comment on at least 3 of the following: (You may have two examples of one literary device.)
*Point of View
*Imagery (concrete objects)
*Foreshadowing or Flashback
*Metaphorical Language (similes and metaphors)
*Irony (words or events opposite what is intended or expected)
Explain how each passage provides an example of the specific literary device.

Example posting:
I think the passage "the snakehead lashed out and struck like springsteel and the branch snapped like a stick of macaroni, and it all happened fast as a matchflare" on page 164 shows really great imagery because of the explicit verbs it uses. I really get a sense of how powerful this turtle is. I can picture how it might snap my own finger as easily as breaking a stick of macaroni.
