thank you for your contributions over the past month. good luck with your weblog, and i do hope that you continue sharing with us in that space. your writing has been the most interesting on the web, in my opinion. it's a shame that you have to part ways with boingboing, but i look forward to your future posts.

Hey, such kind words!
I should mention that the "part ways" situation is that all guestblogs are finite; stay for a few weeks, move on. Some people called for me to join the staff or some such; the fact that I write long, involved, backwards-looking essays should indicate that this wouldn't be a good fit with the approach and character of the website, hence my own weblog. And you comment-y people have yourselves to thank for me deciding to take a shot at it at all; I was all prepared to be done with such writing for a while and go back to editing and maintaining the websites.
The whole "discussion" thing is also quite entertaining; I wasn't aware of the recent moratorium on "discuss" links, so I blithely started adding my own. The fact that it didn't become a troll/spam-fest (even the one harshly critical message, I know who posted it) is either dumb luck or some sort of "geez, it took me so long to read his essay, I don't feel like trolling" response. I should state for the record that it was the fact that I wouldn't feel much of the direct pain of the usual message base shennanigans that inspired me to add the "discuss" links... I suppose if I had been at the center of the similar waves of abuse and personal/libelous attacks that were in the main board, I might have thought a posting hiatus was in order as well.
As for my own weblog, I think the nature of the beast (massive, intricate essays) is better served by people who run their own weblogs (which seems to be nearly all of you) posting their own thoughtful comments and critiques in that fashion; I think my trackback thing works, so that'll lead to your works and everyone gets a voice. But we'll see; who knows what audience my sort of presence attracts.
Regardless, I have truly enjoyed my time on boingboing, and I am glad to have come into contact with more people who I'll recognize/be recognized by at social gatherings. See you there.

Thankfully this is not goodbye but Hello to your new blog. Thanks to boing boing for butterfly winging things such that you now have a place for us to see your thoughts on a semi regular basis.
Now, how do we get blogs as QWK packets?
