Matt......Sorry to hear you won't make the trip. There will be plenty of pictures to share, and maybe Howie can paint you in on the string-line.

I'll be bringing clam chowder, crackers, foam cups and spoons (I'll reheat in boat and place in thermos to serve). I'll also have some Potter Pizza, but plan to use it up on the first day on the way over or as a snack when we get in.. I'll bring some home brew as well.
Gary, please elaborate on "salad". We'll need tomatoes, lettuce, and onions for proper burgers or a salad of which I can bring one or all three. I'll bring some salad dressing and paper bowls as well.

Hi Howie, I have not been able to pull together all of the loose ends necessary to get away for the week, and I will very much miss the chance to go on this trip that I've looked forward to since meeting many of you last July at the Mission Bay cruise. Don and Debbie will have to carry the torch for the San Diego contingent. Hope to see you all soon, Matt

Hi all, heads up for the very low tide (-1.5') around 4:00~5:00 AM on 6/24 at the launch ramp, especially when boat is full loaded.

After swearing last year that 2009 would be the year, I am embarassed to say that we are conflicted yet again for Catalina. I'll have to keep trying.
Howie - Since you asked - My MMSI is 338091353.
I hope you all have a safe, memorable trip.

I'm still getting ready for the BIG Catalina Adventure, I finally got around to fabricating a mount for my Garmin Nuvi GPS. The mount is made from a beam hanging bracket I got at Home Depot, along with the rubber cable mounts. I modified a Garmin car vent mount I got from eBay,(way cheaper way to buy mounts and adaptor cords). I epoxied the car vent mount to a scrap of fiberglass material, but a scrap of thin plywood would also work. The rubber cable mounts keep enough friction that the unit stays in place, but allows you to swing it back out of the way. For marine use, I set the GPS for back-packing mode where it navigates you in a straight line. I've loaded all the Lat/Long data for the Catalina trip and she's ready to go. I thought maybe someone could use this idea to get double-duty from your GPS.
Howie, We're not DSC connected yet......
See you all Tuesday afternoon at the ramp!

Survey of DSC-VHF Radio MMSI numbers? Any Catalina participants have registered numbers on the DSC capable radios? If so please post to the message board. My # is 338091293 and I just heard from Gary Halliburton who's # is 338092566.
Anyone with an MMSI # please post, I will eventually make up a communications page on the website to facilitate boat to boat communications during future sailing events.

Hi all I hope the Cat trip went well. We picked up our Cal25 on Thursday and tried a little putt before going to our slip in Pacific Yacht Harbor in Wilmington. Well long story short We was just ready to cast off to come over to the Island and I noticed oil comming from the lower part of the long shaft on the engine. All dressed up with nowhere to go. Well in rebuilding the impeller and associated things we found out the impeller was ok in the first place. Deduction of all deductions it was the upper systems that is clogged. Does anyone have any bright ideas I might try without going through more frustrations in tearing further into it. I think its just clogged with sea debris. No water circulation ain't good. By the way it is a 9.9 Johnson.

WOW! How things change so quickly...
Our Catalina trip has fallen through! SJ23 "Still Crazy" with skipper Craig and crew Bob & Ted will not be going. Logistics to blame. So - we will NOT be bringing the charcoal, starter fluid and a salad.
Sorry for the change-up, but you folks have a good and safe trip.
Bob, Craig & Ted
