Hi Marian (my sister's name),
  I, too, had cancer at base of tongue (squamous cell - 2004). Started out with radical neck dissection, then chemo, and finally seven weeks of radiation with a chemo session at the beginning, middle and end. I, thank God, am cancer free today. Will not give advice on what to do (that's between you and the doctor) but thought I'd share my experience. God Bless,

my husband underwent bilateral mod radical neck dissection last august for cancer at the base of his tongue and lynph glands in neck. he finished radiation a few weeks ago and had a clean pet scan, no trace of the cancer on tongue that had showed up before surgery.(this is the only spot they didn t remove during surgery so he wouldn t loose speech) The radiation oncologist says he is finished with treatment and cured of cancer. his medical oncologist has him set to start chemo next week to ensure a cure. we are wondering if we should have a second opinion or go with the aggressive measure to help ensure a complete cure and help the chances that the cancer will not return
