word on the street has been that the itrip can actaully be used to obtain police frequencies and therefore gain an insight into the whereabouts and actions of the pigs.. i'd enjoy some expert help into knowing the depth of the truth behind this interesting speculation....

Help - I have just bought an ipod 40g in USA for husband to use in GB. Have also bought wireless leads (Monster from Radio shack) and leads to use with stereo.

First will they all work and secondly what is this I hear about the wireless system not being permitted in the UK.

Would appreciate someone who knows the technical stuff but can explain it to very non technical person giving me what information I need to know - even if I have not asked for it as I don't know what I don't know!

Thanks

Nice troll. Assuming you are a yank, I hardly think critism of our political system is intelligent. Firstly, you guys copied our system, and then made a mess of it. I'd rather have hereditary peers than legitimised bribery, a la "campaign contributions" or "lobbying". Hmm, the system is working really well right now…at least our premier was legitimately voted into power, and didn’t use family connections to influence a supreme court decision that settled the outcome. That would not have been acceptable here.

There are 5 free OTA TV channels, and the program quality is immensely better than USA television. The limit is five due to the way the frequencies were allocated historically; as a much smaller country physically, you have to consider overlap from adjacent cities interfering, so they use a different spread to allow for this, eating up a lot of the frequencies. Most folk have widescreen digital television now, we are about two years ahead technically from the USA in most aspects. No commercials, making the channels much more independent; criticizing the advertisers is not possible on USA TV. The license fee goes towards producing intelligent television, not "police camera action" type shows. See all those brilliant BBC documentaries? Living With Dinosaurs? The Planets? Blue Planet? That’s how they got paid for. The BBC also produces a lot of programming that would never be commercially viable; this is great for music etc. Radio One is one of the most renowned stations in the world.

You’re just jealous. ;-)

This--from a country--where hereditary peers (akin to receivng a seat in our legislature 'cause your Dad was in it) were still allowed up til about six years ago--where four (cable access quality) TV channels are taxed at a rate close to 175 bucks a year--and where initial internet service was close to outlawed if it didn't come from BT. You go girl.

Been done before cypherfunk. Pirate radios have been doing it for years, but thanks to the internet, it's no longer necessary.

Alright... what we need now is a technical "hack" that allows you to:

1 - increase the output

2 - attach an external antenna

3 - add wifi and a small embedded cpu (think PDA) that will allow a P2P program to re-tune the output frequency.

The itrip broadcasts realistically about 10 feet. thats going to be one hell of a pirate radio station.

Does this mean the UK has been bereft of Mr. Microphone lo these many years? And to think I was considering a visit.

Hey good lookin', I'll be back to pick you up later!

That's sort of a misleading headline you've got there. It's not like the UK just yesterday slapped a specific ban on the iTrip; the thing's been banned for over fifty years now. Looks like A N Micro just realized it.
