A girl who knows  19

This is the message I received from Adrian two days before he turned himself in. I'm one of not very many people to have it...and I respect Adrian and think he is someone both interesting and important.

Here it is:

This isn't a statement or a public comment so much as a heads-up to a circle of friends.

Alot of you are probably aware that I'm currently being sought by the FBI in connection with criminal charges in New York.

I'm in a safe place right now. I don't consider myself a fugitive, and I have no intention to flee. I'm just waiting on word from the assistant US Attorney -- I want to know what the charges against me are, as any reasonable person would.

We attempted to contact the assistant US Attorney yesterday, but he never got back to us. The surrender process is strictly waiting on him. I think the lines of communication may have failed at some point.

I'll be making a more extensive statement later this weekend. I encourage you all not to worry about me -- I'll be OK one way or another. I also know many of you will worry anyways. Thanks :)

I don't regret anything I've done. It's all been worthwhile, and it's been a wonderful ride with wonderful people. I don't believe it's over.

It's been strange, and it's getting stranger. Every second of it has been worthwhile. Whatever happens to me, I hope none of you let this keep you from wanting to learn and explore.

Faith manages.

Well, he surrendered himself. Remains to be seen where he goes from here, I suppose.

What exactly is Lamo's supposed "psychosis"? That he lives like a homeless person (not too many homeless people have laptops and do computer security work - unless you live in the Bay Area, I guess)? That he's a hacker? That he doesn't care if he gets arrested by the Feds (although he has said he will defend himself vigorously)?

I see him as simply another hacker eccentric. Was Draper a buttoned-down type?

Should he be arrested? Hell, no. Should he be lionized? Probably not, except for a certain skill at penetrating weakly secured Web servers. Should his skill be publicized widely? Yes. This is the only complaint I have about him. He doesn't write detailed technical articles explaining how he does what he does, with details from each exploit.

Now that, in my opinion, is not forgivable.

If you are a hacker, PUBLISH YOUR HACKS. Regardless of who they were against or where. Conceal enough facts to prevent going to prison, if you must, but publish everything else. Only then will we have the truth.

Warhol was of the opinion that you shouldn't read what the
press has written about you, just measure it. That activity
probably contributed to this attitude.

On the note of messin' with the press: Andy Warhol used to send his friends in his place when he had press interviews he didn't want to go to. Warhol would grab a random freak that was hanging out in his studio, they would dress him up like Warhol (white wig and all) and then send him to the interview. Warhol would then get back to work while someone else got a free dinner from the reporter. No one ever caught on. Warhol relised that it didn't matter who went to the interview as long as *they* thought it was him. Brilliant. He talks about this in his bio, it's part of the expliation for why he always seemed 'odd' in his interviews- because his drug addled friends that were pretending to be him were purposly saying the most outragous things they could to the press for fun.

soooooo, why does anyone care that lamo wants to get himself arrested again? i don't see why it matters that he wanted it, especially if you don't really care about what he does anyway.

Typical, We get the LOTS OF SWEARING that we were promised... and it comes in what appears to be a lame half baked story. I don't care about the plight of some guy who deliberately knowingly broke the law in order to become a martyr.

If you want to complain about laws that shouldn't exist complain about the PATRIOT act... Now that is worthy of complaint...

oh, and, if it weren't for the selfless efforts of t33kid and others, the world-wide multi-billion dollar antivirus industry would fall over tomorrow, putting tens of thousands of employees out of work.

That's the spirit! Now add in lots of obscure references to h4x0r groups and insult each others' friendsters.

I guess Macki is just upset that Adrian rebuffed his sexual advances. Buck up, Macki, you'll get a boyfriend sooner or later. You should try talking to Captain Crunch, I hear he likes little boys.

Xeni and Macki would look like two skeletons fucking.

The person responsible for the MSBLAST worm should claim that he did it out of sympathy for the RIAA. He wanted to stop all those people violating copyright; it just got out of hand...

Lessee now.

Half a million computers get infected by blaster worm.

For a normal human, that means they have to call in
someone to spend an hour to clean up and secure their
system.

Half a million hours wasted.

I have no problem whatsoever with the perp
spending half a million hours breaking rocks
in jail.

One person's little "look how big my prick is"
lark is a half million other folks pain in the
butt.

You play, you oughtta pay.
