I say my prayers and hop into bed, Straighten the pillow and smooth out the spread, Someone is coming, you easily can see, To dreamland we'll go, my jesus and me. Then mother Mary with Jesus comes in. We cover him up right up to His chin. Then we slip off to the land of Nod, Just wee little me and the Son of God. I added one verse...
Now I lay me down to sleep,
God my soul is your's to keep.
Watch over me all through this night,
and bless me with your morning light.
Help me God this I pray,
to be a good boy/girl throughout the day.
Be with me in everything I do,
and help me Jesus to be just like you.
Thank you God for all your love,
and I pray we meet in heaven above.
Please forgive me of my sins,
and bless my family before this prayer ends.
In Jesus' name I pray, Amen.

There are some great prayers here. Something that rhymes seems easier to remember and make a habit of. We used "...if I should die before I wake" and no offense but I never liked the thought of it. I wound up here because I was searching for the prayer my mom taught me when I was a kid, and thanks to this site I found it...
Now I lay me down to sleep,
I pray the Lord my soul to keep.
Guide me safely through the night,
And wake me with the morning light.
But after reading some fantastic prayer posts here, they inspired me to write my own. I came up with this, let me know what you think.
Now I lay me down to sleep,
God my soul is your's to keep.

I like this version from my parents:

I too taught my girls when they were little the prayer Dear God. I thank you for your care, you've been right with me everywhere prayer. Now that my daughter is 26, after many miscarriages & surgeries to correct her uterus she is 5 mo preg. with her first child (a boy). I would like him to also start this prayer while young. Just tried to e-mail snow.man16@verizon but it came back to me. Does any one out there want to take it on & make me one. The now I lay me prayer I learned went like this...
Now I lay me down to sleep
I pray the Lord my soul to keep
and if I die before I wake
I pray the Lord my soul to take
I pray for....
and then I'd list the names of people I thought needed help..

I see the moon

God bless the moon

My mother taught me this one when I was growing up.
Now I lay me down to sleep,
I pray the lord my soul to keep,
If I should die before I wake ,
Don't forget to let me pray,
To the lord who led me through the day,
But this is what our 2 and 3 year olds pray every night they are so wonderful I'm glad god gave us such healthy kids we are truly blessed
Dear heavenly father,
Here I am yet again,
Thank you for allowing me,
To stay another day,
Thank you for the stuff I've got,
And most of all thank you for keeping my parents safe,
In your heavenly name
