J.G. Ballard is everywhere
The good -- but slightly twisted -- people at Things see J.G. Ballard's ideas everywhere in modern society, from architecture to silt. Can't wait to see that silt movie.

Tony Burgess has a new book out this fall called 'Fiction for Lovers: Freshly cut tales of flesh, fear, larvae, and love.'

See the publisher's website.

Never read Ballard, but if you're looking for books that don't fit into any category (which are my favorite "type" books as well) I'd recommend the British writer Geoff Dyer. He's written all sorts of unclassifiable great books - "But Beautiful, a book about jazz" (vignettes/jazz riffs about Mingus, Young, Monk, Chet Baker, etc) "Out of Sheer Rage" (sort of about DH Lawrence, more about trying not to write a biography of DH - in any event, hilarious)and an excellent book on memory and memorialization of the Great War, called "The Missing of the Somme." He writes the sort of books that could be put in many different sections of a bookstore, which is something I find extremely exciting. I'm on the hunt for similarly unclassifiable books, which is of course hard to find since I don't know where to look, so if anyone out there knows of any others, by all means pass it on!

Other than Dyer, another fave is W.G. Sebald, and I am currently reading David MacFarlane's book The Danger Tree, which combines history of Newfoundland with family memoirs - excellent writing and also somewhat unclassifiable.

What's up with Tony Burgess these days? I want more Ontario zombies. (Maybe there will be more bodysnatching now that the Tories are gonski..

I first started reading Ballard because a friend told me J.G. was a genre bender and I admire writers who can mix it up. Anyone else have favorite names to add to this club?

When Do You Think He First Titled This Millennium People?

My bet is sometime in the late 90's.

"God Was a Clever Idea"

So says J.G. Ballard.

I'm Beginning to Wonder If JG Ballard and Chuck Palahniuk Are the Same Person

The Telegraph reviews Ballard's Millennium People.
