Stickler, Google is your friend: see http://stratfocuscommunications.com/principals.htm.

"Mr. Cudahy began his political career at Collins, Miller and Smith & Associates, a leading political consulting firm in Washington, D.C., specializing in campaign management, media relations and direct mail and telephone advocacy.

"His management and press relations responsibilities have ranged from the 1980 Reagan/Bush mid-western presidential effort, to the 1980 George Bush for President campaign, as well as the Andrew H. Card, Jr. gubernatorial campaign in Massachusetts, and U.S. Senate, House and state legislative races nationwide.

"His work as National Communications Director for the Republican Coalition for Choice established his reputation as a thoughtful and talented writer capable of dealing with complicated, sensitive issues with imagination, subtlety and tact. He is a careful listener and an astute observer of personalities, and he has used these talents to enhance his writing for all of his clients. His media and legislative advocacy programs focus on overcoming communications barriers, while developing popular support through the use of direct mail and the press."

Instead of 'crossing the chasm' this may be 'bridging the chasm'. Kind of like the node in the middle in this network of tight cliques.

Or will his old clique turn on him and prune their ties?

Someone's got to diffuse the echo chambers... who dares to be a bridging node?

Let's confirm this before it spreads. Britt Blaser writes that Cudahy "ran 8 states for Dubya's dad". Did Cudahy really *run* those campaigns? Or just work on them? Which states? What was his title and actual position? I'm not doubting Britt at all and I think it's *great* news about Cudahy. I just know that misinformation backfires, so it's better to get it right the first time. Thanks.

I have not completely read all of this material (I followed a link from the 'Republicans for Dean' blog, and there are several other sites that I have up right now), but it is heartening to see conservatives and Republicans opposing the neocon takeover of the party and the movement. I have been opposing the globalist warfare and government expansion that the neocons have been promoting for some time now - and from a traditionalist conservative, Republican perspective. Please check out my blog at: http://uis.blogspot.com

My past blog entries on the issues of war and foreign policy have been copied and archived here:

Cudahy represents the best of America, as does Clyde Prestowitz, a conservative Republican and christian (an elder in the Presbyterian Church) who has come out with a really superb book that I think sets the tone for people from all parties coming together against Bush--it is called "Rogue Nation: American Unilateralism and the Failure of Good Intentions." My Amazon review should appear in a day or so, but don't wait, this is "the" book for understanding the global and homeland security damage that Bush and his minions are doing "in our name."

Two related comments: the public debate tide is starting to turn, in part because of courageous public statements by honest Americans like Cudahy, in part because the books are starting to roll off the presses. Two in particular for which I have reviews posted at Amazon are Sheldon Rampton & John Stauber's "Weapons of Mass Deception: The Uses of Propaganda in Bush's War on Iraq", and Al Franken's "LIES And the Lying Liars Who Tell Them: A Fair and Balanced Look at the Right." My review of WMD book includes a quote from Goering used by the authors, and I include it here with the observation that yes, a Hitler and neo-Nazi analogy with the (ironically mostly Jewish) neo-conservative cabal is very appropriate:

On how this government's manipulation of the truth can be compared with Hitler's, they quote Goering to make this point: "but, voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same way in every country."

Bottom line: Cudahy represents moderate Republicans--we need to attract the same caliber of person from the Greens, Reforms, Libertarians, and Independents, as well as bring in all the drop-outs. If all Americans do not come together behind Howard Dean, Bush, whom I consider "snake mean" and very unethical, will easily defeat any of the "Bush Lites".

It will take a lot of this kind of courage to change the country.

Look at how the White House and the RNC deal with those who turn on them and who criticize them. It is brutal.

The Nazi analogy is harsh, too harsh perhaps. Mormons may be more appropriate. They don't kill anyone who leaves. They shun them. They reject them, totally, stop speaking with them. Even family members. There is a pseudo-religious quality to the neo-conservative movement.
