Vermonters loved Brokeback Mountain so much that they are naming one of their Mountains after the movie. www.brokebackmountainvermont.com

Hope this makes Annie proud :-)

This woman sure knows how to write a book. I myself have not been able to read any of her books or have seen the movie Brokeback Mountain but just the commotion has changed my life. I have seen the trailer and I have tried to buy the book close range but Brokeback mountain has to be the best work she has ever done. As soon as I get the chance to read the book and see the movie I will post my feelings on how this amazing author has been able to write such an life changing book.

Annie Proulx on Brokeback Mountain
Read the headline. Now read the third paragraph. Now read this New Yorker cartoon. Now read this one.

Bookslut interviews Annie Proulx
And Proulx reveals there's more to her story "Brokeback Mountain" than we've read.

Actually, that story was to be one of three or four stories about offbeat and difficult love situations, but I never wrote any of the others. I just wrote that one.
I had to get away from it. It just got too intense, and too much on my mind. That's when I wrote the book [That Old Ace in the Hole], but I may have to write the other stories just to clear my mind, as it were. And also because I conceived of that particular story as one of a set of stories. As it is right now, it stands out rather like a sore thumb in comparison to the rest of the work, so I think I have to do those other stories.

Brokeback Mountain
One of my favourite stories, Annie Proulx's "Brokeback Mountain" (from the simply unbelievable collection Close Range), is being made into a film by Ang Lee. When I first heard the news I wondered if "Brokeback Mountain" was actually filmable, as so much of its strength is its language. But I think Lee is a good choice, given the way he turned Ride With the Devil into a clever film about sexual politics (it's a queer film, if you ask me). If you don't know "Brokeback Mountain" you're in for a treat.

Annie Proulx Wants You to Stop Knocking on Her Door

Annie Proulx, who should just win the Pulitzer for everything she writes, didn't starting writing fiction until she was in her 50s. Good, I can put my feet back up for a while then.
