I have Quicken Premier 2006.

What files do I need to copy to a flash drive to supply my financial advisor with my financial information. Does he need only the Qdata file, or each file which is backed up (when I perform a backup)?

My financial advisor has Quicken Premier 2005. Will he need to upgrade or get Premier 2006 to be able to open my file?

Thanks

Has anybody ever had an issue using Quicken 2006 that not all categores show up in the Itemized Category Reports. Typically these are categories that start with w, x, y, or z? Any ideas.

I have the same question that was submitted by Jack Simpson on 12/04. How do you create an itemized category report in Quicken that sorts by category/ by payee each category and gives sub-totals for each one? Please help!

I have just installed Quicken XG 2004 new copy, I know it is no longer supported in the UK but I have taken over as treasurer for a charity and the retiring treasurer has the accounts on Quicken so I have emailed them to myself from his machine. I can't open the files I have sent to myself they are .QDT data files any suggestions?

Thanks Miranda

How do I create, in Quicken, an Itemized Category report
that sorts by Category/by Payee with sub-totals for each
payee.

For example, I have a Category called "Air Travel." I fly
three airlines. I want to know, not only how much I spent
in total, but how much on Southwest? American? United?

Can anyone help?

Does anyone know how to turn off the annoying opening message in Quicken 2004 Basic. It reads: "Quick in not currently the application configured for handling Web Connect data. Would you like to make it the default application for any Web Connect data that you download from your financial institution's web site ?"

I always click "NO." I cannot find anywhere in Options to configure it not to ask this question --EVERYTIME I launch the app.

I have quicken 2001 Deluxe. I am running it on a Windows XP system. My problem is that I cannot print the register, and also when I go to choose printer setup nothing appears, or happens. I can print out inventory, or other reports from quicken, but nothing else. My defalt printer is a HP Laserjet 4, and I have no problems printing out anything else. I've also tried a re-install to no avail.
E-mail address is leong@tds.net.

Thank You

Just a suggestion based on years of frustration with Quicken.

I have Quicken Premier 2004.

THE DETAILS: I have a small IRA brokerage account, in which there is a certain mutual fund (among others), USGRX. I named the account PSC Roth Growth and Income Fund.

I recently bought into that same USGRX as a separate mutual fund owned by both my wife and myself. To differentiate, I set up the new account as USAA G&I Fund. When I tried to use the Quicken buy stock dialogue to show the purchase of shares for the G&I Fund, it would not come up among the accounts I have, only the older Roth Fund.

Then I did a dumb thing: I changed the name of the fund from PSC Roth Growth and Income Fund to USAA G&I Fund. I was able to get the stock into the USAA G&I Fund using the dialogue, but it also changed the name of the fund within the IRA brokerage account.

So I am left with one name (the G&I Fund) going into two separate accounts (One Roth brokerage and the other a separate mutual fund) and the new one doesn't show up on the Net Worth Statement (and yes, I have customized the report to add in the new fund).

I am frustrated and would deeply appreciate any advice. Do you know of any newsgroups relating to Quicken? Thanks in advance for any help you might be able to offer.

I have been using quicken 2000 for 3 years in a Windows ME computer. I have just bought a new Windows xp-home and have been unsuccessful restoring my data to my new computer. I installed quicken 2000 from my original cd and used my backed up cd from the original program to restore my files to the new computer. When I backed it up there were four files listed (Qdata1 QDF data file), (Qdata1 QSD file), Qdata1 QEL file), and (Qdata1 QTX file). But when I click restore backup file in Quicken on the new pc, only one file shows up. I looked at the parameters listed in that field and it is searching for the following files, 3 of which were not backed up ( QDF,which I have, QB1, QDB, and QDT) My question is: Do these three files need to be backed up and if so why weren't they backed up from the original backup program. Any help would be very appreciated!

I have a dirt simple problem. I have two computers both running WIN 2000 and I use the same Quicken 2000 Home & Business on both. I had to reinstall my WIN 2000 on one and now when I try to restore my Quicken database I get "Data losses were found in your file". Well there aren't. I have uninstalled, tried moving files directly as well as by restore - nothing works. I know there is some stupid simple answer but I can't find it. Help!

I'm trying to help my Mom who uses Quicken 2004. She was all set up to print checks, but when she clicked print she realized she hadn't put the checks in the printer. So she cancelled the print. Now the register keeps going back to the same point in 1995. She's had to print each check seperately, every time it goes back to the same point in 1995. There are also randomly placed, out of order entries. What could be making Quicken act so funny?

I use Quicken 2003 (Windows). Trying to set up investment account with data download. Ran One Step Update. When I set up the account, the Financial Institution does not recognize "Hewitt Associates" as available for online transfers. I search Quicken help and found KB ID# 6058 which suggested running InetFix.exe. It is supposed to assure that the FIDIR.txt file is properly updated. Re-ran One Step Update. Hewitt is now in FIFIR, but still does not show in New Account Setup. Any clues where to go next? Thanks -- Tom

Linda,

The problem you describe is the one I referred to in my earlier posting. Can't back up the file if you've "upgraded" to releases 3, 4 or 5. I have to uninstall Q4, search for all remaining vestiges of the program (including hidden files) and reinstall. It happens in XP Pro but only in some machines.

You're right. They are not acknowledging it now. They admitted to the problem when I first called after R3 came out. Now - nothing.

Shame on Intuit.

I am using Quicken 2001 for windows. I bought 2004, installed it and within 30 minutes, removed it from my system and used the CD as a coaster. What a piece of junk...!

Nevertheless, I just ran into a perplexing problem with 2001. I always back up my files to a zip disk which is the F: drive. Yesterday for no known reason I got the following message in a small pop-up window during the back up process: "This disk is nearly full. Please delete unneeded files. If this is a compressed disk then use uncompressed disks instead." I click OK and then after a moment another pop up window opens and says "File NOT backed up."

This now happens every time I try to back up my files even if I stick a newly formatted zip disk in the zip drive!!!!!

Does anyone have any idea what is going on? This may be the straw that broke the camels back with Intuit. I wish they would make a product that wasn't a piece of junk. The cds for the last 2 quickens I bought (2003 & 2004) are now sitting on my desk as coffee coasters. I won't even bother to call intuit anymore since I'm afraid I may "burst a blood vessel" with the hoops they make you jump through just to find out why their products are so sucky.

Thanks in advance for any help.

I have the same problem and it seems to be with release 3,4 and 5. I deleted quicken2004 and reinstalled again to begin with release 1....then I could back up to CD-R just fine. Problem is that when you download any data from bank, etc, it does an automatic update and lo and behold you now have release 3,4 or 5 again....so then ou cnnot backup. yes, it is quickens problem and then are not acknowledging it or fixing it!!!

I'm in big do do. I had quicken 2000 Deluxe. I backed up all my files & burned them on a CD. Opened it a few times to make sure it was all there. Last month I bought 2004 Premiere Home & Business. Now I need to restore my backup disc for all my tax data from last year. IT WON'T OPEN!!! I uninstalled it, reinstalled Quicken 2000 and it won't open either...says backup files are missing. Placed my backup files on the Desktop, changed it from "read only" and it still won't open.
I don't think the IRS will believe me...do you?

I'm using Quicken 2001. Don't know if upgrading will help.
I transferred (more than 10) funds within my 401k and when I go to reconcile, I'm limited to just 10. I was curious how to handle this(just manually enter buy/sell entries?) or if upgrading will allow me to enter more than 10 transfers.

Can someone assist me with two nagging quicken "features"?
First I recorded a purchase of CPQ a few years back at the orginal time of the purchase in quicken, since CPQ no longer exists and have since been traded into HPQ shares can I get quicken to adjust the appropriate amount of HPQ shares via the quote update etc..?

Second issue, how to record the reinvestment of cash dividends into additional stock? Also with the web update, can you have quicken automatically reinvest cash dividends to purchase stock?

I am using Quicken 2002 Deluxe & have always backed up using my floppy drive. I recently bought a new computer & am trying with no success to backup using my CD-RW driver. I opened the Help in my Quicken program file & typed in backup & clicked onto Back up my files to a CD-R or a CD-RW & I cut & paste the first instruction it tells you to do.
(1) Configure your CD-ROM drive to work like an alternate hard drive. If you need assistance, refer to the manufacturer’s instructions that came with the CD-R or CD-RW drive.
Since I did not get a manufacturer’s instruction book or owners manual I have no idea how to do this configuration. Can anyone help me do this configuration so I can backup using my CD-RW. TIA

Kevin, I'm having the same problem. For tax tracking purposes, I want to track my tuition reimbursement, a bonus, & employer paid life insurance in the paycheck setup feature. The problem is that while I pay taxes on the life insurance and not on the tuition reimbursement or the bonus (according to the pay stub from my company), I can't figure out how to customize the paycheck setup feature to do that without pulling money out of my net pay (making my net pay incorrect) or having extra money tacked onto the taxable income amount that is calculated by quicken (making the W2 total incorrect).

&, there isn't anything in the help files that come with quicken or online about this. what gives?

Ron-

Sorry about the confusion. I now realize Qdata is Qdata.qdf. I am using WindowsXP.
Qdata.npc size is 0 bytes so I ignored it.

I backed up then went to My Computer opened the drive and double clicked on Qdata.qdf and Quicken opened and asked if I was a new user or a returning user. Clicked on returning and then was asked if I wanted to use a data file on the computer or restore from backup. Sounds like it's working.

Thanks for your help. As you know tying to get help from Intuit for this kind of problem is hopeless.

Thanks again,

RonO

As Quicken 2004 Deluxe users who have XP operating systems know, the recent releases lead to fatal errors. We're required to reload the original Q4 CD. Intuit has done little more than barely acknowledge the problem via calls to Tech Support. There's no mention of the problem on the website. Compunding the problem: after not resolving the errors that occur with Release 3, they go ahead and put out Release 4 WITH THE SAME BUG! Has anyone gotten information from Intuit on their plans? I'm about to give up and buy Microsoft Money.

RonO,

It's qdata.qdf not .gdf. This file is all your data that you have backed-up and is the largest of all of them. When you restore, it asks for the .qdf file. Are you using quicken for windows? I don't have a .npc file.

Your backup plan works fine. I use an RW disk and just keep writing over the old info. I now also highlight, drag and drop. My backup function in 2004 doesn't work well, but then again, neither does other areas of the program. :-)

Hi Ron,

Thanks for the reply. I went to the quicken folder on my hard drive and I do not have a qdata.gdf but I do have a qdata.npc. All of the rest of the files were there.

I was planning on hi-lighting the files and then trying to back them to a CD using my Roxio software.

Does that sound like a plan and what do you think about the difference in file names.

RonO,

When you use the backup function in Quicken, it backs up the following files (assume qdata is your data file):
qdata.qdf
qdata (quicktime ext)
qdata.idx
qdata.qel
qdata.qph
qdata.qsd

For some reason I can't backup to a CD-RW in Quicken 2004 Deluxe using the backup button (could in 2001). I now just back up to another hard drive then drag and drop them to a CD-RW using explorer.

HTH,
Ron

Just upgraded to Quicken 2004. Is anyone else missing headers from their portfolio columns? Doesn't matter what view. Sometimes if I adjust the width, I can get the header to appear, but as soon as I change views and return they disappear. Also, some of the columns never have headers even after I try re-assigning them. When I move the mouse over the header, I get the column definition but no headers. I tried calling tech service but they are as useful as you know what on a bull.

Any thoughts or ideas?

TIA,

I am not sure this is the proper forum to ask this question, but I am lost. I am trying for the first time to pay my bills using Quicken 2003 for Mac. I set up my online payee, clicked the use button, and filled in the proper amount. however, when the payment was trying to send, i received an error message saying it was "too late to make this payment." it gave me two options at the bottom of the window, print or ok. i hit ok and the payment was recorded in my checking register, although there was the word SEND in the spot where the check number normally goes. I am very confused. I called my bank, and they said that it was a quicken issue and one they could not support. how does this whole bill payment thing through quicken work? Please help!

Here's a problem I have. When I just download quotes, it works fine. When I download credit card and mutual fund information, it will download the information but then after it does, and is recalculating the balances it locks up. I have to ctrl-alt-delete to get it to stop and then reopen the program. Anybody else have this problem or any ideas what to do? Quicken Deluxe 2004 is the worst version of Quicken I have ever used (and I have used several earlier versions during the past dozen or more years). I have had other problems in addition to the "lag when typing" problem that has been reported. For instance, the register does not open to the bottom of the page where a new entry can be made -- I have to use the slider bar to scroll down to where a new entry can be made. Another problem, is that I cannot stop some messages from popping up even though I have repeatedly checked the "Don't show me this message again." boxes.

After calling Intuit about the response lag when typing, they said this is the first time they've heard about it and that it must be an issue with MY machine, definitely not their software.

The tech (or whoever it was) said I should uninstall the software, and copy it from the CD to my hard drive, open up in Safe Mode, and reinstall it to a new folder....like it would make a difference. And it didn't. Same lag, same bugs. And what a confusing busy interface. Have a hard time finding my simple check register. Real trash. New is not always better, certainly not in this case.
Rick  16
09-16-2003 12:40 PM ET (US)
The response lag is another widely discussed "feature" of Q2004. I have experienced this myself, on a pretty fast w2k system. The lag was not present in Q2003. As I said before "AT ALL COSTS, AVOID QUICKEN 2004 UNTIL SOME SORT OF MAJOR PATCH SET IS RELEASED". Further, if you're within 60 days of your purchase, go to the Intuit website and grab the mailing address to send the software back for a full refund. Until Intuit starts seeing this happen in volume, they have no reason to change the status quo.

Does anyone find there is a response lag when typing? This is definitely a buggy version and I don't like it at all. I've been using Quicken since 99. My QB Home and Bus. 2001 ran flawlessly. I'm sorry I upgraded to this Premier piece of junk.

Initial Question/Comment: Problem with expenses in invoice section of Quicken 2004
Andy has joined this session!
You say, Hello
Andy says, Welcome to Quicken Chat for technical support. Could you please provide me with a more detailed explanation of the issue?
Andy says, Hello
You say, Yes, in Quicken 2004 in business invoice section, when I am in an invoice, then want to include previously marked expenses...when I click on "Expenses" I don't get the expenses list, just another form that has nothing to do with expenses.
You say, Any thoughts?
[No response for several minutes...]
You say, Are you there?
Andy says, Thank you for your patience. It is important that I provide you a correct solution. I am working on your request and will be with you shortly . . .
You say, OK
[No response for several minutes...]
You say, Still working?
Andy says, Yes please
Andy says, Are you using Quicken 2004?
You say, Yes, I am using Quicken 2004
Andy says, I know your time is valuable and you are eager to move forward with this situation; however, this issue is too complicated for the Chat support venue and is best addressed via live phone support. An explanation of live support for your version of Quicken and the telephone number can be viewed on our Web site at http://www.intuit.com/support/quicken/2003...ons/live_phone.html .
You say, OK, but I just purchased this for $80 - am I supposed to pay for the phone support too?
Andy says, This issue may or may not be billable on the telephone, yet it is your best course of action to proceed towards the necessary solution. If the issue is billable, we "Bill for Solution", which means that a fee will not be assessed unless we provide you with this issue's solution. After listening to a description of your issue, the Support Engineer will determine if your issue appears to be billable or not. When the solution is achieved, they will make that final determination,
at which time you may be asked for a credit card to affect billing.
You say, Is it a bug yu have come across before?
You say, ?
Andy says, I am not sure. Please contact Quicken phone support for further information.
You say, OK, thanks. Bye.

FOLLOW-UP - I then contacted Quicken by phone. After a long wait, a phone support engineer answered. He refused to even discuss or explore the problem UNTIL I agreed to give a credit card number and pay nearly $2 a minute! We dicussed this "poor customer service" approach for about 10 minutes, but I could not get him to budge. So, I REQUESTED A COMPLETE REFUND of the money I had paid the day before for Quicken 2004. After a few more minutes, the phone "support" rep quite gladly issued me a refund - I guess that is a strange form of "customer success." I uninstalled Quicken 2004 and returned to using Quicken 2003. Now, Quicken 2003 is itself full of bugs (which is why I wanted to upgrade), but the upgrade to Quicken 2004 seems ever worse. Why would Intuit want to do this, and why give their customers such poor support service! At least Intuit is prompt in giving refunds!

MORAL: DON'T BUY QUICKEN 2004 (HOME AND BUSINESS) UNTIL THEY FIX THE BUGS, MAYBE DON'T EVEN BUY IT AT ALL, PERHAPS QUICKEN 2005 WILL BE BETTER!

I can confirm the bugs. I just upgraded from 2002 (which worked fine) to 2004.
Used the software for about 1 week. Now I can't even open my file anymore because of some memory read error.
(Arrrgh)
No fix available as of yet according to their hotline.

Quicken 2004 is full of bugs. I agree with those comments appearing before mine. This version has more bugs at initial release than any previous Quicken version. I can't even use it because it crashes about 5 minutes after file conversion during almost any activity. Called Intuit for help and they are silent and won't comment except to offer help at $1.95 per minute. Their web site is usless when it comes to dealing with program errors.

Major Bugs in Quicken 2004 Deluxe for Windows...
Income/Expense graphs show internal transfers as actual income and expense, in spite of checking the "Exclude Internal Transfers" option. 2003 worked fine, broken in 2004. Net Worth graph on home page can not show more than 12 months. If it does, program crashes on startup and corrupts data file. Rate change on a closed loan causes program crash. Backup option always prompts for overwrite, even if you have checked the "Do not show this next time" option.

My advice: AVOID QUICKEN 2004 AT ALL COSTS UNTIL THEY RELEASE A MAJOR PATCH SET!!!

In Quicken 2004, in the business invoices section, when you try included marked "E" expenses in an invoice (i.e. click on "Expenses") I don't get a list of possible expenses. Instead a form appears that has no relationship to expenses. This looks like a serious bug. Anyone else experienced this?

Scott, the matching problem you mention has been fixed in Quicken 2004. You will need to run it about a month or so before you see the results get better, because only newly downloaded transactions get marked correctly, so it takes awhile to clear out the older transactions it matches against. I've been using Quicken for almost 7 years now, and pretty much upgrade to each new release (skipped 2000). 2004 seems the best yet, it really looks like they focused on fixing a lot of issues, and I really like the iCal support.

For those looking to see what is new, I read this article on it today:

I've been using Quicken ever since it came out for OS X and it has been pretty stable for me, even when it crashes I can't recall ever losing any information.

However, I agree that they should stop adding features and fix the problems that they have. The one thing that continually plagues me is how they (mis)match downloaded transactions. They frequently match transactions that have already been matched from previous downloads (especially ATM transactions) and then getting them to unmatch often takes several "Unmatch" operations. Then at other times, it won't match a transaction unless it is on the exact same day. This seems like a very simple and straightforward algorithm to fix (especially the problem with re-matching already matched transactions.) I have reported it to them several times and I just get the great big wall of silence, and there is no place to go to see the list of bugs fixed in the 2004 version (presumably because it would be embarrassing for them to admit they had existed.) I refuse to upgrade until this very basic functionality works reasonably. In fact, I expected this to be fixed in a patch and not require a whole new release. Are you listening Intuit? Hello? Do I need to put a $20 bill on my forehead to get your attention?

I have used Quicken since the earliest days. I had purchased yearly upgrades up until Quicken 98, the first truly buggy version of Quicken (IMHO). I have filed numerous bug reports about annoying and critical bugs only to see them continued in subsequent versions. Threats to Intuit that I, a long-time user, will refuse to upgrade unless assured that critical bugs are repaired have fallen on deaf ears. I faithfully use Quicken to monitor my expenses, investments, and simplify tax preparation. Unless a replacement program can accomplish these things for me, I'll have to continue suffering in Intuit-imposed silence.

I beta'd 2004, I have to say that I reported a bug with the os 9 version, yet they released it with the bug still there.

If you switch to another running app and then back, Q2004 will not respond for about 5 seconds. Can't click on anything, scroll a window or move a window.

Not impressed. I think its time for a better alternative that works.

I've been a Quicken beta tester since the v2,v3 era. The last few releases have added no critically useful features of note, some feature bloat, and some bugs. I am using the current release which very rarely crashes. It does not have any calculation errors that I'm aware of, but I don't use the stock portfolio tools actively because they are so non-intuitive.

The only problem I have is that DirectConnect transaction downloads from my bank are routinely missing transactions which ends up defeating the purpose becasue I have to manually check everything.

It is still the easiest way for me to manage many financial accounts and provides a central management of bill pay (instead of doing it at individual bank websites).

But... they should add absolutely no new features and just fix/streamline the ones they have. Unfortunately I'm sure they perceive that this doesn't attract a lot of customers (new or upgraders).

i bought Quicken when it finally became OS X native: and that version was so buggy and I lost a bunch of data.... after a month I switched back to Q2000. This is the only app I still run in Classic mode.

Yup.... Quicken 2002 and 2003 have been plagued with random crashes. Particularly when trying to generate a report. I'm hesitant to purchase Quicken 2004 until I learn if these bugs are FINALLY fixed!

I have been using 2002 Deluxe under X for a couple years now - for just money tracking and simple banking it has been working just fine. Just about every bill is auto pay now so I am not using quicken to pay bills, just see that everything is OK.

I stuck with Quicken 2000 (used in Classic) till earlier this year. After more reports of various bugs in various later versions of Quicken as well as the absence of Canadian editions of recent Quickens, I decided to try something new. After trying out both LiquidLedger and Moneydance, I chose the latter. Moneydance does what I need and does it simply--and it's cheaper. I was able to import all my old Quicken data (via a qif file) and haven't looked back since. Moneydance is a cross-platform Java-based app which its developer constantly fine-tunes with new versions--two in the last week. There is a Yahoo group devoted to it as well.

Nope I have no connection with Moneydance other than as a very satisfied user.
