I've read most of Nietzsche's books and am presently chewing through, and enjoying very much, Kaufmann's _Nietzsche_ (4th ed.). If anyone's looking for a lucid critical road into N., this is the book. Kaufmann has not only translated virtually all of N.'s oeuvre, but he's a philosopher himself and doesn't fall into the biographical trap of hagiography. He also deals at length with Frau Forster-Nietzsche's appropriation and perversion of her brother's thought. Very readable prose as well.
