I don't know if you read old comments or not, but since you were so gracious about the "admonish" thing, I figured I should weigh in on this one too.

I liked the wasp story a lot. I wrote something very similar in my own blog recently, about a wasp that overpowered a spider that was trying to eat it.

The one small thing I would change, if I were you, is to lose the word "irruption." It is a sophomore mistake to use a 50-cent word where a 10-cent one will do. Especially in this case, since it's the only 50-cent word in the piece, so it looks out of place. I got jolted out of the story at that point, and that's the last thing you want.

In general, use the shortest, plainest word you can think of that will do the job. Otherwise it looks like you're trying to show off and call attention to what a great writer you are. All your attention should instead be focused on the subject at hand.

On an insect slant, I was biking the other day, felt something on my shoulder. I turned and saw a cicada as big as my thumb (something like this). Shocked the hell out of me - I'm not afraid of insects, but when there's a big black motherfucker sitting there and you don't expect it, well, things can get a little crazy.

first off... what's with the stars next to some names but not others? is it like if you post a lot or if you're some special person or what? i have star envy. i like space.

secondly... i have roommates who are huge pussies for insects also... right now i have a spider trapped under a cup on my front porch that has been there for like 2 or 3 days. and, i shit you not, it's probably like the size of the top of an aluminum beverage can. it's HUGE!... and completely fantastic. if i were sure it wasn't positive, i'd sit down bare-assed on the concrete, raise the cup, and move it towards my genitals. i'm not a fan of insects either but, i'm telling you, these queers i live with freak out over nothing.... no offense to you circus clowns.

maybe, if it's still there, i'll borrow jay's digital camera and take a picture of the monster on the porch and you can turn this blog into "insect fear: the words"
