Does anyone know where I can download this other than through apple? I need this version for a template builder tool and it asks for 1.4.1. Any help is appreciated!

Sorry--I got the earlier post wrong. I meant that things started going bad when I installed the Java 1.4.1 UPDATE. The original 1.4.1 worked fine for me. I am now looking at how to uninstall the update and re-install plain old 1.4.1., if I can figure out how.

How do I uninstall Java 1.4.1 and find a download site for the previous version (1.3.1, perhaps?)? After I installed 1.4.1 on my Mac Power PC G4 tower running OS 10.2.6, I had too many problems to note. I just want the old java back, but can't seem to find it. Any ideas?

Maybe there's no connection, but right after I downloaded and installed the Java update, my Mail (Apples OSX Mail) started misbehaving. Mail still connects to my ISP properly, tells me how many messages have accumulated, and starts downloading them. But when it hits one particular message, it spins its gears for a long time and then unexpectedly quits, always on the same message. It happens consistently every time I try to check my mail. PowerMail had no problem with that message, which contained 2 photographs of about 640K each, and I have previously used Apple's OSX Mail to download similar messages from the same sender with no problem.
Can anybody offer any suggestions on how to reinstall Mail without reinstalling the entire OSX?

Still can't get Zend PHP IDE to run. Not sure why. I really dislike Java. It's so....crappy.

So far in my use I have seen no changes in Java behavior or functionality with Java 1.4.1. In other words, Java applets that didn't work before continue to not work now...

Haven't had time to download and play yet, but it is about time Apple started to keep more current with Java. Granted no shop releases code for only the bleeding edge, but It is great for testing compatibility. Similar to Moz nightlies. Lets you keep an eye on what is coming down the pike, less surprises.
Java has always been so second class on Mac. Finally, Apple is making it more accessible to us to build Java Apps.
About time Apple gets back on the developer side, instead of just mandating or leaving us out in the cold.
Very pleased with Apple lately. Seem to have turned a new leaf and it's working.
Now finish XCode!! ;-)
