Seems some guy is already building chat-dildo devices...

The symtoys site looks like a promising first step; I'd like to have a closer look at the hardware/software interface there. Obviously there SHOULD be more crossover here; the "fully interactive" DVD should include a track that transmits code to the sex toy interface, even if it's just to control the vibe speed intensity.

As a musician, what I really want is a midi-sex toy interface. Ideally this should be compatible with the wireless vibrators that are already on the market. I want to be able to play a gig (or, perhaps better still, DJ) where I can transmit controller data to vibrators being worn throughout the audience. I forsee a future wherein all DJ mixers come with a "vibe" control knob, and people go out to clubs already wearing wireless vibrators in several locations. Maybe one or two to be controlled by the DJ, one to be controlled only by a date's/friend's handheld remote.

And, to mirror the previous question, if I push buttons that give someone who's plugged into the right interface sexual pleasure, am I performing a sex act? Am I "cheating?" If that person's the same gender, is it a homosexual act?

someone 'please' do us a favor and have sex with xena. her horny posts, masked as relevant digital culture news, are becoming tiring.

Yes and yes.

"Am I 'cheating?'"

that depends entirely on your partner's definition of "cheating." YMMV.

"If that person's the same gender, is it a homosexual act?"

with regard to sexuality, i think that simple binary oppositions like "heterosexual/homosexual" are becoming obsolete, precisely because of situations like this, and the growing transgender movement. if someone is biologically male, but pretending to be female online, i think it's a similar situation in some ways (but not all) to someone who's biologically female but self-identifies as male, where definitions like "homosexual" or "heterosexual" are simply inadequate to fully communicate the complexities of the situation.

in the case of cybersex, i think such definitions are even less adequate, and i think it's completely absurd to automatically privelege biological sex as the sole determiner of homo vs hetero when you're talking about an online situation.

our current definitions no longer apply. we are in desperate need to a wider vocabulary here.

Yes, we're going to need a whole lot of new words for sexual orientations. If you're female but play male online and have cybersex with people who also play male online, whether they are actually male or not, what are you? Not "gay," surely.

Sounds realer but much less interactive than the old MacPlaymate program.

Re /m19:
Consider the older case of kids (not in the physical sense)
pretending to be female online and having "lesbian" cybersex in
chat rooms or on irc. They are not real lesbians, nor necessarily
at all sexually open. But they are roleplaying. No new words
needed, yet.

But I'd suggest a suffix '-play' if you really want to coin
some. 'gayplay' for your situation, 'lesbplay' for mine. Plus
plain old 'maleplay' (female pretending to be male in any
situations), 'femplay' (male pretending to be female in any
situations), etc.

Depends. Does it feel like a sexual act? If you do it unknowingly,
I'd say it isn't sexual. If you are IMing someone with erotic
suggestions that get the recipent off (the "right interface"
there being the written word) then yes.

Am I "cheating?"

There is an easy test that answers this question. Would you
feel uncomfertable telling your primary partner about it?

If that person's the same gender, is it a homosexual act?

Only if you let it be in your mind.

these "virtual..." disks are at least two years old - there were titles like this with terra patrick, etc.- i.e., name-brand stars. the set up sounds exactly the same -

note: internet porn has already moved pretty much into this direction, from the "hiding of the male" to the camera positioning and now lame-but-improving click-driven controls...
