MelanieO: So do you give them with each meal and snack? Or just at a big meal? You are supposed to mix the powder I bought with juice, so that would seem to me like a lot of juice in a day! On the other hand, all that juice might help her newfound constipation!

Hello Ladies! Again, long time, no post. I have two cans of Elecare unflavored infant formula that expire Aug 2010, and since I am not pregnant as of yet, I need to get them out of my cupboard. I cannot afford to give them away, but can pay the shipping to get them to you. Also, I have one can of Elecare Vanilla for children over 1 yr old, expires May 2010. I would like to sell that too. I was going to keep it, in case the flu struck our house and Holly relapsed, but I doubt she would drink it now. We are still avoiding egg (and the flu shots), but she has "outgrown" all milk issues. If you are interested in either formula, please email me at bon_bon29 @ hotmail.com (no spaces of course).

Melanie W - glad to see that you are trying chiro! We felt that was helpful for Holly too! I still think our issues started with the rotavirus vacc at 2 months compounding the undx'd food allergies, but I am a firm believer that avoiding dairy/egg for the first two years gave her time to heal and now we just avoid straight egg (her intolerance shows up as loose, mucousy stools, but no rashes or redness anymore). I wish the best for you and your little one!

Colleen: cocoa butter is not milk-based. It's an oil extracted from the cocoa bean.

Jill: We give the digestive enzymes with each meal (at the beginning of the meal). I'll occasionally give it with a snack, but only if it's a really big snack. Hope that helps.

Bonni - We just completed our first week of tapering off the Prevacid. So far ...so good. She got it 3 days in a row and then one day without. We then repeated the 3 days on and 1 day off. Next week, we will do a two and one schedule.
We are still avoiding dairy, wheat, and peanuts, doing probiotics, chiro 3 times a week, and CST once a month. After we get Natalie off her reflux meds, I want to do another trial with wheat or dairy. If she doesn't pass, then we'll look into the digestive enzymes. I did an amazon search for books on the topic in preparation. Oh - and one other side effect of the chiro, Natalie has gained weight, a lot of weight in the last couple of months. I can't say for sure how much because our scale isn't working so great, but I can say that it's at least 1.5 pounds ( for her age of 26 months, that's a lot). she may have actually gained more than this. Anyway, I'm guessing that the scope she had done a year ago that was inconclusive should have shown that she wasn't digesting her food properly. I'm guessing that she's now getting more of the calories into her. At her 2 year appointment, she was 23.5 pounds. Now, I'm guessing that she's 25 or 26 pounds. That's a huge gain on the growth charts. So, for those having trouble gaining weight despite eating well, you could try a pediatric chiro as well as the other things that you are doing.

Melanie W: I was curious about your weaning schedule with the prevacid. Was that a dr recommendation? And is your daughter on only one dose per day? My son takes two 15mg doses, and I like your system for when we try weaning. Maybe we could wean one dose at a time. Hope it works for you.

Melanie W - that's awesome with her weight gain!!! Natalie and Holly have always seemed to be so similiar! Holly was the same in June at her 2 yr appt, weighed 23 or 23.5 lbs. (I can't remember, I taught myself to forget about her weight a long time ago b/c I stressed over it too much) and now on our home scale she weighs sometimes as much as 26.5 lbs! I thought it was b/c we added dairy back in, but maybe it is a combo of dairy, chiro, "maturing gut", etc. YAY for weight gain!!

Carrie - Natalie is on only 15 mg of the solutabs a day. We are doing a very gradual schedule - even more gradual than the doctor's recommendation. We started with 3 days on and 1 day off. Next week, we will do 2 days on and 1 day off. Then, we will do two weeks of 1 day on and 1 day off. If she handles that, then we'll do 1 day on and two days off for two weeks. If that works fine, then we'll take her completely off. So, it's very gradual. I'm doing that because we know that the cold turkey approaches haven't worked in the past and are hoping that her system will adjust gradually if she doesn't really need it. We're also doing it that way because it's possible that even if she can't go completely off of it, she could handle a lower dose. This would let us know.

Sarah Jane- Just curious, did your little one grow out of MSPI, or did you graduate from the elecare. We are currently experimenting a little with Cocunut milk & Rice milk (so far my daughter seems to prefer rice milk & will drink quite a bit). I am also from Omaha, NE. I have heard & read that MSPI is more prevalent in the midwest, but never any explanations of why that might be.
Has anyone found any good articles or information on why MSPI is more common in the midwest?

For those of you with mspi babies, how did you recognize the intolerance when your babies were older? My daughter is 14 mos. I'm still nursing but she eats some solids. I added dairy back just over a week ago. She's been fussy and asking to nurse but not nursing. But I can't tell if it's the time change or food or just being a toddler. Her weight gain has been good but her stomach is always rumbling. Reflux is occasional now. When she was little, she had the green foamy diapers. Her diapers are still really loose but not foamy.
