Gotta lotta extremely helpful insights which you may not have yet realized; engrossing wit, sardonic satire; and basically straight-forward-Jesus thatd make anyone cognizant this is only a test of our lifelong demise. I talk of a Heavenly Scent, an ardent desire with the whiff of a definite locale, while bolstering the mean, Great Beyond with the passion of a magnanimous madman. What youll find in my wonderful, fruitFULL, dynamic is a treasure, unlike any other in the known cosmos going AWOL. Its by moi. And Im one-of-a-kind. sHe threw away the mold. ONE ome is plenty HeeHee
Phazers on stun. I was only a naïve 19 when I began… and fulfilled my tenacious destiny, er, I mean, novel with a plethora of savvy, pragmatic, avant-garde, Led-Zepplin-Christianity from a severely, head-injured-Catholic you'd most probably call crazy. Thats totally cool… but, yet, who ever said YOU were sane? Touché? What youll come to realize in this flamboyant, indelible script is a world beyond our own which is beyond glamorous: Fulla short-stories, kick-@$$-poetry, prayers, quotes, hardcore-heartbreaking-hilarity, aggressive conundrums, Salvador-Dali-homily, and a fantastic, buxom belief which'll help U.S. rise-above this Finite Existence to 7th Heaven. If the TRUTH frightens you, friend, take a lookit my novel. Youll definitely find 'King Size' solace othar.
GOD BLESS YOU WITH DISCERNMENT! Long Live Christ the King!

Well, he's 71 and ill, but Reagan was 72 and brain-dead, so RAW still is better.
Personally, I think Jodie Foster should run for governor. She'd beat Ah-nold hands down, no sweat. Of course, her security apparatus would also beat Ah-nold's hands down. Nobody would get within 1000 feet of her to ask questions about her political stance - let alone her sexual preferences. But as she's far smarter than Ah-nold or anybody else in the race, her governorship would be interesting to say the least.
Anyway, with Ah-nold running for governor, RAW's Drugs and Guns (or was that Guns and Drugs?) Party is at least as reasonable.
If I wasn't unemployed and had the money to sign up (and wasn't an ex-con), I would have run on the Transhuman Party and trashed everybody. Maybe next time. And you know there WILL be a next time. Unless Ah-nold immediately passes legislation to make sure no one can do it to him - which of course he will. That's one piece of legislation no one will vote against.

Actually, RAW isn't on the official list of candidates that I can see, so if I lived in CA I'd have to go with Jack Grisham from the punk band T.S.O.L. since he managed to fill out the paperwork properly!

well hesheit, he MIGHT get my vote if he ever finishes his "Historical Illuminatus Chronicles". Quite lame on his part, IMO. Two wonderful books (The Widow's Son & The Earth Will Shake) at roughly 400 pages each. Finally after a number of years the third (& supposedly FINAL book, since he's a trilogy kinda guy) comes out, & low & behold its only 200 pages long, & (get this), it's not a trilogy but a, uh, quadrilogy? there's to be a 4th book! Which apparently has never come out? How odd. Sorta gives one the impression he cut the 3rd book in half, just so he could get some extra money outta his fans by making them buy one extra. AND to top it all off, the 3rd book wasn't that great. Kinda influenced by Dances with Wolves, I felt. Or influenced by something at least.

Matt, the guy is a hardcore agnostic and is critical of all establishments. Some think he was too harsh in "The New Inquisition" but it really shows how dissent is treated in the scientific community by some powerful and vocal members in certain cases. In fact, its the only resource I've seen that shows how harshly Sagan treated that old russian scientist who wrote a book theorizing that religious events can be explained by natural catastrophies and the dates on the religious texts could help geologists. Not much of a theory but he didn't deserve the treatment he got. Hell, I'm an atheist and I can spot a hardcore fundamentalist atheist with an agenda a mile away, its these types RAW criticizes and they deserve it.
Ive read most of his books and none of them advocate the belief in anything as much as they advocate skepticism through exploration of the fringe.

Re: /m7, RAW is suffering from Post Polio Sequalie or Syndrome, depending on which doctor you talk to. Plus his wife died in the last five years or so after a long illness, not to mention that he is 71 now. He uses Medical Marijuana to fight the pain, and was one of the featured guests at the Santa Cruz Medical MJ giveaway several months ago.

Sorry, I got carried away there. It was Uri Geller's psychic powers, and he was actually comparing CSICOP to the Holy Inquisition.

That passage on mutant.net is priceless.
I don't know anyone who read Illuminatus! before 9/11 who's even remotely surprised by the machinations of Mr. Ashcroft et. al.
I've long thought that it wasn't a matter of 'if', but merely 'when' and on what pretext that such things would happen.

Let me throw my $.02 in and suggest the very nice documentary "Maybe Logic" as an excellent intro to RAW's work. http://www.maybelogic.com also has a RAW library, as well as a collection of works that have influenced him, by authors as diverse as Crowley and Leary, Edward Bellamy and Alfred Korzybski, bunches of others.

Actually he non-fiction is very non-wacky. Its quick intro into General Semantics, Agnosticism (by exploring every wacky religious cult and coming to the agnostic conclusion), Relativity, Quantum Physics (probably the best easy to grasp intro to the subject around), human/primate behavior, Tim Leary's theories, Buckmister Fullers ideas, and lots of James Joyce appreciation. That's off the top of my head, the index for Cosmic Trigger alone is insanly wide.
His fans often refer to his body of work as the RAW University because it touches upon so many topics like the liberal studies requirement at a university.
