There's an alternative to Friendster that's better, faster, a whole lot better, and best of all they tolerate fakesters. The site is called myspace and the URL is www.myspace.com. I encourage all of you to check it out.

They deleted me last week...I had 225 friends...now I'm back to carrying people in a humdrum way from Ocean Beach to CalTrain, over and over.
Sigh...

This one time - I'll make this quick - this one time I was thrown from a horse and I had to have a laminectomy. Well, you all know the size of a king-size sheet, right? You try climbing down one of those after you've had a boot of scag or a snort of horse!
My point, therefore, is that my pimp Nico hooks me up with all the "real" contacts I need, so I need Fakesters to keep me amused whenever I'm too infected...I mean, too tired to work at my chosen trade. Of the 60 ejoyable minutes I've spent on Friendster, 59 of them were laughing at creative profiles and/or lint on the monitor (I had slipped and fallen on a syringe filled with heroin - Good Times!). The other minute I spent...well, let's just say I thumbed a ride and made a little lunch money.

Well, I have many fakesters who are dear and near to my heart, mostly based on Buffy including Rupert Giles, Vampire Willow and Evil Willow to name a few. I think that it is despicable that they are trying to get rid of them. Save the fakesters!!!!

Davis A. Dog (Dave), who started his Fakester carrer as Ginger Grant, the castaway, launched his campaign for governor on Friendster. He has been branching out, posted a few times on Craigslist to get the word out, but has never forgotten his Fakester roots. On his Web site, http://Dave4Governor.clickSiteBuilder.com he has continuously included "Let the Fakesters Live" among the list of his campaign platform points (what he calls "sound-barks") Vote Dave!

Kubrick's Eyes Wide Shut says a lot about this. I think its a profound film about personas and masks, not a bad film about sex. The I'm a Doctor mask allows Tom Cruise to open doors closed to others, the womanizing Hungarian mask attempts to seduce Nicole Kidman, and so on. It is only when people put on physical masks that they can really be themselves. At this point their public personas evaporate, and Cruise finds out that his Doctor mask doesn't work. Interesting, too, who saves his skin. It's a fascinating comment on society, and what constitutes a real personality. Nothing could be weirder than real life. Maybe Friendster's just getting some eye openers, and some dont like their carefully groomed credentials dropped in the pecking order.

I've got several fakesters of my own and people love them. Screw the original intent. It's funny to look up your friend and see they are friends with "depression" and "hot chicks". I had someone get in touch with me because we were both friends with "skateboard" so the networking aspect is still valid, rather than sharing actual friends, you share a sense of humor, probably how you got your real friends in the first place.

Salon article on the same sort of topic: Faking Out Friendster.<p> "While this promiscuous linking madly expands peoples' networks, it defeats what [founder Jon] Abrams sees as the point of the site he's created: "If people are randomly connecting to these fake profiles, I guess it's funny, but it's not really that useful. We're hiring some customer support people, and we're going to get rid of all that stuff," he says."
