That's enough about coffee! Ed.
In response to earlier on bars: Gandamack Lodge, L'Atmosphere, La Cantina and The Lounge seem to be the best and most popular at the moment with varying prices.
Any word on Supreme stopping booze sales on 15 July? That could seriously impact on AA attendance levels though I know Gandamack is well stocked for sure!

I agree with you. The first 2-3 weeks they opened, they had problem with the food preparation since the cooks were not well trained. The coffee prices were 4.80$ too but for last one month, they have changed that. Food gets prepared in less than 10 minutes with coffee even less! I think the coffee taste and the food taste is worth waiting!
If you are a real coffee expert, you would never have coffee elsewhere if you taste it in wakhan! You cant compare the wakhan coffee with flower street at all!
and by the way, flower street cafe is in business for last 3-4 years, wakhan is open for last 2 months only!
you better go for another cappucino and make sure you have your stop watch with you!
the owners at wakhan are not chef since i personally know them! The menu is done taking into consideration what the customers want! I wouldn't be seeing the same customers every time i pop in there if their service is slow!
be realistic anne, wakhan coffees are the best! you cant compare the ristretto capsules with premium coffee beans! i consider wakhan as the afghan version of Starbucks!

Well, to each his/her own.
Perhaps you should try the espresso at Flower Street Café again b/c they just brought in ristretto capsules, which are great.
The menus also been revamped, and I hear the owner, whos a bit of a chef, is constantly considering new dishes, specials, etc.
I paid $4.80 for my cappuccino at Wakhan Café (not $3.50). I also dont think you can order your meal at Wakhan and hope to have it placed in front of you in less than an hour. When I went there I literally waited 40 minutes for my cappuccino, and it wasnt even busy. That would never happen at Flower Street Café.

I am a coffee addict! Flower street cafe got their coffee machine recently i guess and the coffee has been improved. Though, i wont compare it with Wakhan Cafe. I was one of the lucky ones to try their coffee before they launch. They use BonCafe for their coffee which has an excellent taste - cant compare Lavazza with it at all. The machine they use is LaMarzocco, any Italian coffee drinker would know the name.
They have a beautiful garden too with nice cozy chairs to relax in the evenings. The environment is very friendly and clean!
The prices are quite reasonable, a espresso for $2 and a latte/cappucino for $3.5! They have a variety of smoothies (i love the raspberry)! Plus free high speed internet!
If you want value for your money and five star welcome, Wakhan Cafe is the place to go!

I was reading some of these earlier restaurant reviews, and as an avid coffee / coffee shop connoisseur I thought Id chime in.
Flower Street Café serves Lavazza coffee and Nespresso espresso (from ristretto capsules). They have an Illy espresso machine, a Nespresso espresso machine, and they have individual French Press machines for those looking for a normal cup of coffee (non-espresso based). They do not serve Nestle Instant Coffee (contrary to an earlier assertion).
Theyve been open for years and have a very relaxed atmosphere, a beautiful garden, clean, consistent and quick service (which other restaurants definitely cannot boast), and unless your conscience doesnt object to spending ~$5 for a cappuccino (which is the price in other places), they are also very reasonable.
Flower Street Cafés definitely my pick.

Robert for a drink you should check out Le Atmosphere or Boccacio, but for a day time coffee or a good healthy meal, then as someone posted earlier said, "Wakhan Cafe", its actually to be honest a real cafe in Kabul, not like "Kaboul Coffe House" that my friend found a worm in the burger, or Flower street Cafe which has okay food, but serve Nestle Instant Coffee...come on for god sake...sorry for being so blunt...but I had been waiting for a real coffee shop to open for a long time in Kabul....Oh yeah the wraps and Pizza in Wakhan are the best in Town...

There is one nice place i would recommend everyone to visit. its called Wakhan cafe, the best alternative to Cabul Coffee Shop and Flower Street Cafe. They are way better in terms of good coffee, fast internet and food. They are open everyday from 8am until 8pm (last order) though you can still stay at the cafe and enjoy the garden and internet after 8pm.
They have the best coffee and pizza in town. Call them up at 0797881881 for direction or follow the direction below:
From Charahi Ansari drive the road down to kolola poshta. On street 5 (left) turn left, its the same street as the park palace guest house. Drive the street until the end. The last villa down the street is wakhan cafe.
Oh yeah, its ladies day on tuesdays and ladies get 50% discount which i love. They have movie night out in the garden on wednesday and monday nights. you can even request to watch your own movie other nights or even recommend movies for the movie night.
They have premium membership as well which you can request (i got it free) and get 10% discounts on your checks everytime u eat or drink something.
I love it and i recommend you all to visit Wakhan Cafe!

Does anyone know where in Kabul I could get the antibiotic "Norfloxacin?" Neither RMSI nor the German clinic have it. Alternatively, is there anyone currently in Dubai who might be able to pick it up at a pharmacy there on their way back to Kabul?
Thanks!

BE QUICK! Another room available from July 1st. Our house is a beautiful old Afghan style wide bungalow retaining all of its original features, one of the best gardens you'll see in Kabul and is situated in very secure location between the Dutch Embassy and UNICA. Please note the house itself is not MOSS compliant. We are outgoing long term people, who do have the occasional well attended Western style parties, so please don't apply if you're worried about that sort of thing. The max number in the house is only 5 including yourself + 1 very well behaved German Shepherd dog. Only $800 per month, payable 3 months in advance gets you in, and gives you a room (unfurnished, but can help if you're a newbie,)laundry, wireless IT and the use of either 1 of 2 bathrooms. We need a nice person, who is cool with everything. If that's you, then let me know at kevin.avers@gmail.com
