Up until now I've been posting messages sent to me by e-mail (see below), but with this lovely bulletin board it's now completely automated. Yay for technology! ;)
So I sincerely thank you for visiting my site & would love for you to sign in. Thanks!
*************************
"I want you to know I really enjoyed your website! Being raised Catholic and knowing all the details of design, I laughed as I read your clever copy. (I think I liked St. Anxiete the best. She seems so familiar.)"
"Enjoyed the website including the humor, Patron Saints (clever) and the comments. Very well done. Love, Dad"
"Very nice site. You have a great (if quirky and irreverent) sense of humor. Your portfolio is huge! I just went through the highlights!"
"Hiya! Love the color scheme. The art could be offensive to some clients of a deeply religious nature. Take it for what it's worth."
"You really are the funniest person I personally know! This Saint Anxiete copy is awesome! the music cracks me up too!"
"As a Catholic, I laughed until I dropped my Rosary! God has a sense of humor, he gave all of us one too. Nice to see a cool, well-researched, idea that is witty and reverent."
"Your site and your work is outta site!!!!! ... I grew up with the Guadalupe and palm fronds on the walls of my Grandma and Grandpa's house... I have a Guadalupe displayed prominently in my hallway... Your site looks great, and I think all them saints will only give you good luck and prosperity. God bless you, my dear!"
"Wow. What a great f***ing job. And you can quote me."

I am really interested in how people around the world have been finding my site & what they think of it. Please sign in & say hello!
According to my site statistics, there is someone on the Island Kingdom of Tonga who has visited my site on a somewhat regular basis (460 hits from you on Friday the 12th!). So to that individual... Malo e Lelei! Who are you and how did you find out about my website!? I am dying to know!
Thanks so much for visiting! ;)

You are having toooooo much fun! As graphic designers, it seems we are always on a ridiculous deadline or having anxiety about NOT being on one. Your real gift to the rest of us is that you relaxed enough to use your creativity to express what we all feel but don't have time to express!
I heard about your site from a friend who works in a San Diego design studio you contacted. She always shares cool stuff with me!

As one who's spent way too many hours down in the production room arguing with surly guys holding Exactos, I found the Saints pages hilarious. May I suggest St. W.C. Wyg, prone to introspection, often found staring into mirrors or pools, muttering "What you see..."

Hi, I was just checking out this web site! It's great. Really enjoyable to know that there are others that are like me in this world, for recently experts have said that ingesting bugburgers regularly can be healing on your mental health and enhancing memory and consciousness. So I assume you are the right place to go. Well, well...
I just think it's a great site! Keep up the good wank!

Hi everybody! First off, thank you all for supporting my site & thank you all for the compliments. I put a great deal of work into it, so it means a lot to me that people are enjoying it & appreciating my bizarre sense of humor! Please let me know how you heard about my site... I'd love to know!
To answer your questions, the art was all done completely in Photoshop. I used black & white scans of saints images as a template but then digitally illustrated & colorized on top of them to create what I wanted. (For example, Saint Pixela was originally playing an organ, not sitting at a Mac.) I was a hermit for about 3 weeks in order to create the series of characters. I'd like to create more, but I'm still tired from creating the first 6! If you have any ideas, I'd love to hear them though.
Thanks again, Lynn ;)
****************************** P.S. - A request... I've had a problem with spam on here so PLEASE don't use this forum to advertise your Viagra business, babble about "bugburgers," or to tell people to boycott George Bush. I'm not a fan of Bush, but The Patron Saints of Graphic Design have NOTHING to do with politics! This site was created purely as a home for my creativity so please respect that. All inappropriate posts will be deleted so don't waste your time.

What an absolute hoot! As a recovering Catholic, I couldn't stop laughing; my dog thought I was mad. I'll never look at my Pantone fan or my eXacto knives the same again. Now, all I need are medallions for each of them to hang over my computer and work table. Thanks for great latte substitute.

I must say... word of mouth fascinates me... if only the power of it could be bottled. I created this site in September 2003, and apparently it was *just* discovered by people two days ago. On Friday my entire site had 250 hits. So far this morning (it's 11am), I've already gotten 50 TIMES that! How cool is that!?????!!!! The comments below were e-mailed to me today... THANK YOU!!!! I'm thrilled that people are enjoying something I worked so hard on. That means a lot to me ;) W. Lynn Garrett Art Direction + Design http://www.lynnster.com******************************************* a friend of a friend emailed me the link to your site...it's GREAT! I am a disgruntled graphic designer outside of Philadelphia about to embark on yet another week of aggravation... your site helped me greet monday morning with less of a scowl than usual! Thanks! PS Rubyliths!!...there's a blast from the past...ahh the good ol' days...... ******************************************* Thanks for a good old fashioned belly laugh! Lynn,
Thank you so much for making this site. I am Catholic and not offended one bit by what you have done. Actually, it's about time we graphic designers have some patron saints, hehe. Mondays and Tuesdays are usually the worst days of the week for me, as I work for a weekly newspaper here in NYC, and these are my deadline days. My wife had sent me a link to your site, and today being a Monday, your site brightened my day. I especially identify with Saint Typo, hehe. Again, thank you, and I will spread the word!

Absolutely great! I also am not at all offended, but why should I be so sensitive, I am only Anglo-Catholic. We stole half our saints from the Roman Catholics. I am a printer of old and therefore a Graphic Artist of the old school and a cousin of all Graphic Artists so I would like to see a Saint Guttenlitho or some such to honor us old boys.

With the wildly inacurate horror movie "The Passion of the Christ" still stuck in my craw it is a delight to see Saints we can all worship, pray to and adore. A missing one is St. William of Gates, the Saint of corrupt and malicious PC's of which the world is full. Pray for me St. William.

(More e-mailed feedback) **************************** As a graphic designer, production artist, and proofreader/copyeditor of yore, I can't tell you how fun it was to read of Bestine and Kimwipes! I'd like to suggest Saint Mayline Waxbury of Burnisher, a martyr, and mention rubber cement, and rubdown type and backgrounds like Letraset. Saint Waxbury was condemned by King Cantaffordaproofreader to spend the rest of his days cannibalizing and cutting in type under a flickering fluorescent light using a chewed-up triangle, parallel bar, and dull dogleg blade. The picture of the saint could be of a male saint clutching a fluorescent orange triangle (with chunks taken out of the sides) to his chest, and holding a brayer like a scepter. (More e-mailed feedback) Many people have fond (!?) memories of graphic design in the pre-Mac days, and Theresa just sent me hers. Feel free to share yours too! All I can say is that if the Mac hadn't come along, I'd have been screwed. Rapidographs & I NEVER got along. **************************** I just had to share a few treasured memories of pasting up in the good old days:
Making boxes with my Mars Staedtler pens on Duralene (so much better than Mylar), and still not being able to get the danged corners to meet.
Impaling my thumb on my Exacto, and just watching in wonder as my knife actually stuck in my thumb at a right angle to my nail, quivering there gently in the wind.
Accidentally sweeping my arm down off my drafting table and slicing my leg open through my jeans with the knife clutched in my hand, remembering the first rule of paste-up and production: "Do what you will, but don't bleed on the artwork." I quickly pushed myself away from the board, went to the bathroom, pulled down my jeans, discovered that I probably needed a stitch but I was on a deadline, so I made a butterfly bandage out of white tape, taped my leg up, and got back to work.
Using Kimwipes as Kleenex during a cold, and just tearing up my poor nose with the fiberglass strands.
Going to my tiny local art supply place in my Godforsaken little town, looking at the sign that proudly proclaimed that they carried graphic arts supplies, asking the clerk if they carried Kimwipes, and having him look confused and answer, "Kimwipes. Kimwipes? That's for graphic artists, right?" "Uh, yeah..." "No, we don't carry them"
Running to the typesetter to pick up paste-up galleys and the camera shop for your stats, your deadline is the end of the day, and you realize you spec'd the type and stats incorrectly and you have to pay for redos on a rush.
Sigh...the good old days...
Your humor reminds me of Monty Python and the Holy Grail. There is truly no funnier movie on the face of the earth. If you haven't seen it, you must. You will love it. "Five is right out."

(Additional insights into the Saints are being e-mailed to me... like this one from Bruce in Houston) **************************** I heard from monks sworn to silence that St. Pixela brought imprisoned artists only crusts of bread with their venti cappuccinos. I also understand that in her youth, she was unspeakably tortured with power tools by the evil and sadistic Marquis of Kai.

Dear Lynn -
I'm writing in my confession of a vision. I must admit that any time my cuticles get too long, I call on St. Exacto for one of his infamous manicures. No one ever believes me, that I get manicures from a saint, but they become silent when I display the telltale stigmata of the curving lines incised into my fingernails.
Thank you for this opportunity to testify on behalf of graphic designers everywhere. I know that I'm not the only one who secretly misses the days of waxers and T-squares on a bad day.
Reverently yours,
Mary Shafer Ferndale, PA P.S. I'm now a copywriter. I couldn't take it anymore.

P.S. We artists actually do have a saint--Saint Luke, who is supposed to have painted the Virgin. Van der Weyden did abeautiful painting depicting this.

Saint Luke Painting the Madonna 1435; Oil and tempera on panel; Museum of Fine Arts, Boston Elizabeth, you're totally right... while there are no Patron Saints for graphic designers, there are a few for artists in general. I looked it up and Saint Luke (shown above) is in fact the Patron Saint of: artists, bachelors, bookbinders, brewers, butchers, doctors, glass makers, glassworkers, gold workers, goldsmiths, lace makers, lace workers, notaries, painters, physicians, sculptors, stained glass workers, surgeons, and unmarried men (wait, wouldn't that already be covered by "bachelors"? hmmm.). P.S. - You are more than worthy!!!! Thanks for the support! ;)

Discovered your message on YahooGroups - Writers searching for Artists - - - and I remembered at some point that I was on some Cathloc Chat room feeling misearable, wanting to know if there is some made up saint for comix book artists. Once I saw this very beautiful artwork - - - I somehow knew that "Satire married the Oil Painter Hobbyist." For someone whose lacked faith for a while, this suddenly became a quick pick-me-up. If Possible, I would like to know if there are any Silk Screen T-Shirts that are available with your P.S.G.D. images.

Hi Temathi... thanks for the questions! Due to requests from people like yourself I do plan to have a store attached to this site in the future. Since the art was created small for the web, it's just going to take a bit of work to make them print-ready & right now I'm so booked with clients that I haven't had a chance to start on it. Check back, I should have some fun trinkets available a little later this year. ;)
As for the Patron Saint of Angst-ridden gay men in their 30s... well, I'm neither male or gay so that's a tough one. Having spent quite a bit of time in San Francisco this year, all I can really think up is that maybe his name is Saint Castro, but I'll leave his specialties & biography up to you, ok? Mind you, had you asked about the patron saint of unmarried female designers in their 30s who moonlight as jazz singers, that one I'd probably have better insight into. ;)

I have prayed to and at times, cursed the existence of these saints over the span of 30+ years in the ad/design business. As yet though, I haven't found a patron saint of "new business," "perpetual creativity,"one for "large client budgets" or one for "prompt payment of invoices." When and if you discover these elusive saints, contact me.

Saint Exacto has come to me in a vision. I was working as a cut and paste artist for the bus company creating route schedules. I was also working, for the same temp agency, as a document encoder, both jobs full time. After four weeks of this schedule, I was having difficulty cutting the latest signage when I asked St. Exacto for his aid (though I am Quaker, it never hurts to have friends in high places), for lo, though my blade was fresh it would not cut through the paper. St. Exacto appeared before me, and said to me: "My son, it is not the paper that you cut now, but your finger. If you would but look down, you shall see that you have embedded the blade into the end of your finger." I looked, and lo! It was embedded into the end of my finger! St. Exacto spoke unto me again: "My son, while I appreciate your diligence, and your effort to emulate me with the removal of your finger, such devotion is not neccessary. I ask instead that you seek out the aid of a healer." He touched my finger, and I felt his blessing upon me. I bowed to his wisdom, and after uttering a minor blaspemy (which he forgave me for, on the spot),I pulled the blade out of the end of my finger, and I set out to find someone to help me tape my it together. That was many years ago, but to this day, I still have the mark where St. Exacto touched me.

You people crack me up. I needed that today. Yes indeed, Saint Exacto retained a small corner of my left index finger in 1992... visible to this day. Very pretty.
As for the saint of unpaid invoices, (Saint Creditor? I've gotta think on this one...) don't get me started. That's the Saint I REALLY need some help from this week. I'm currently working on redesigning the logo for a major pizza chain plus doing a full brochure for a makeup line, and yet when I checked my bank account this morning I realized that I currently possess about 1% of the amount of money that I have invoiced out for work I've already done. At this point I can't even afford to go out & drown my sorrows. HURRY UP AND PAY YOUR DESIGNERS, PEOPLE!!!! I mean, come on!
Oh dear Saint Creditor... things will get easier eventually, right? Sigh.

Your site offers hope to us all. After having been told by Sister Agnes (a seriously disturbed woman) in 4th grade art class that "everything in the world has a black outline around it", I spent many years in a spiritual swamp, unable to trust my own vision... then, in the early '90s the Mac chime heralded an appearance of St. Pixela, and her guidance (along with the Photoshop Bible) gave me the wisdom to understand the Contract Command, an awareness of the Holy Artifacts, and the means to dispose of those pesky halos and black outlines. I was transformed and enchanted. Now, I only have to deal with Sister Agnes's admonition to "slide over in your seat so your Guardian Angel will have room to sit down".

What great stuff! What great humor! What a wonderful way to laugh at ourselves! The day job that pays for the diaconal duties keeps me around PR types, graphic designers, writers, web keepers, and the like. When I pass these saints on to those folks, there's no way they can claim that they're not "Catholic." Keep 'em coming!

Wow, thanks for the compliments, Deacon! Mind you, I was baptized presbyterian but I've been told that this site makes me an honorary Catholic & my sense of sarcasm (& inexplicable knowledge of yiddish slang) makes me an honorary jew. So, I've got my bases covered, I figger. yay for me!

I think the site concept was absolutely unique and quite funny. I think it reminds me of the purity of the web. I still think this site could use a touch of redesiging but only for conceptual navigation other than that man beautiful work. You are a prime reason theres competition out there.
P.S. Im Catholic and I'm not offended actually it was good to see le ol'e pics running around in a different manner. Good design keep it up.

Saint Pantone the niece of Saint Gertrude of Trumatch, pray for us. We know not what they do at the printers. I pray that ECRM Marlin may rip thy images to Heidelberg with accuracy. Let them have registration I pray.
Does anyone have information on the patron saints of the pre-press dept./pressroom? (St. Rip, St. ECRM?) Lord knows the imagesetters need our prayers.
So I ask all of you to pray for the end of error 11's, postscript errors, courier, RIP killers, and all things unprintable.

I, Saint Ruth (Our Lady of Perpetual Responsibility) have been touched by Saint Exacto as well. Lo, twas many years ago (before the Age of Desktop), as I struggled to make deadline on the gospel Real Estate Review. As I turned to bid MaryEllen the Tardy, fellow galley slave emeritus, make haste, from my hand slipped my trusty instrument, dashing to the ground by way of my second toe, which to this day bears resemblance to a small arse, having been split forthwith down the middle by the gleaming blade. As M.E. cried out in horror and I cried out in anguish, there appeared before us St. Exacto, who possessed M.E. by way of her speaking voice and said unto me, "Lo, the pain shall recede quickly and infection shall be forbidden if thou wilst pour upon thy wound from this vessel of holy vodka." And so we did as St. Exacto bade, pouring upon our lips for good measure, and it was good. Well not good, but we didn't care any more!

Love these saints but I had a vision today of Saint Pica de Pointsize who feels neglected and forgotten amidst all the new high tech saints. Also heard from Saint Mechanical de Pasteup who alas, has been usurped by modern day saints. Also screaming for notice is the Madonna de One Coat and our Lady of Wax. Their skin is yellowing with age and due to the high winds in Saintsville, are blowing with the wind.

As a Nun of the Martyred Sisterhood, I am also a director of an agency, I share this unusual situation with Sister Bernadette, who is a reknowned design consultant. Graphics is our religion. No one knows about our order, of course, except for some students in the Ranmoor Inn, Sheffield. They were amazed to find out we were nuns as we smoke, drink and swear very sexily. We also won the pub quiz the other week.

Well, yesterday my entire lynnster.com website received... now get this... 42,000 hits (Compared to 250 hits on March 5th). I'm absolutely thrilled that so many people have been enjoying something I worked so hard on. It really is amazing to hear that my efforts are being appreciated & that my wacked out sense of humor is actually shared. ;)
In the past 2 weeks there have been many kind requests for me to make Saints t-shirts & mugs & whatnot available for purchase. As the old saying goes, "ask & ye shall receive..." so I am working on arranging that stuff to happen in a few months. I need to recreate some of the art at higher resolution for printing & right now I'm booked with client work so I can't immediately concentrate on it but I'll get there, so please keep checking back!!!!
Oh, and even more big news!!! I've just secured "thepatronsaints.com," so my canonized friends will eventually be living in their very own home. Bless them, they've earned it. Thanks again to all of you. The saints have not only been watching over me, they've brought me a lot of great new friends. Gotta love the unexpected joys of the internet!

My brother (a graphic artist) sent me your site knowing i would LOVE what you're doing as I too have been upgrading the pantheon of Saints through my mixed media assemblage Memory Boxes. These are doll-like constructionsutilzing everything from old wooden shoe lasts to clock parts to shattered antique dolls heads to cutlery to vintage medical bottles to roller skates to... you get the picture. (Actually, you would/will get the picture once I've joined the computer age a bit more. Ste Pixella has yet to bless me!) So far I've invoked Mad St Louis, Patron Saint of Taking It Easy; St Lyle, Patron Saint of Finding The Humour In Heartbreak... and more still percolating... Many thanks for sharing your wonderful... and bent... visions. Eric Montgomery Roberts Creek BC

I'm a graphic design student, about to graduate in May from the Columbus College of Art and Design. I just wanted to commend you on this page, and I wish I had a pewter amulet of Saint Exacto. From various school projects involving mounting, mock up, etc. I have cut my fingers numerous times in the last four years. One required a trip to the ER for six stiches in my thumb. Thank you for letting me know I'm not the only careless abuser of the Almighty Exacto.
Thanks, Josh

I so love this. First time I saw it I just laughed and laughed. Very cleverly written, beautifully presented. Have you considered adding a patron saint of Shiny Things? You know, cool new filters (that nobody really needs but which are just soooo tempting and fun to play with), nifty little devices that sound wonderful (until you try to actually use them in production), that sort of thing. I suspect that the saint of Shiny Things has more male followers than female... Least, that's been my experience with graphic designers, hehe. Anyway, I LOVE this site and visit it regularly. Thank you so much for sharing your humor and wisdom.

As a prevention media specialist, I often seek the guidance of St. Lobudgetus Hiexpecticus (a.k.a St. Huukup) to provide solace as I work like a master and live like a peasant.
Nearly as often, I seek aid from St. Makemlook B'Donpisemoff--the patron saint of the designer paid with funds provided by the extreme political right.

Yes Fiona... we do. Waaayyyy TOO serious! This art stuff should be kinda fun, shouldn't it?
We live in a world where thanks to the tv we can't escape the stresses of the world for a single day, where marking off something on a to do list feels like a major accomplishment. LIfe's so short... we need to lighten up & laugh more! The ability to smile & laugh is one of the most unique & important traits that humans possess... as I see it, the world would be a much better & easier place to live in if we all started exercising that muscle much more often.

I too am a copywriter, and I personally resent Bill's implication that one has to pray in order to come up with a headline. Why can't one be more independent and rely on their own talents to... oh, never mind. Forgot who I was talking about.
Keep praying, dude.

Hey Joel, I'm gettin' the impression you know Bill...? Seriously, we all need a little help sometimes. Cut poor Bill a break, man! Judge not, lest ye be forced against your will to come up with crappy headlines too.
Yeah Jill, I know the chant can be a little freaky (I've heard it so often that I turn the sound off), but heck, AIN'T IT INSPIRATIONAL? hee. Seriously, you'd be surprised how many people love it & have asked me where they can buy the soundtrack. When the Saints move to their new home (ThePatronSaints.com), I'm going to make it so people can choose to view the saints with or without inspirational soundtrack... I'm very curious which version will be more popular.

Hi, I'm Juan Pascual, a Spanish translator. I think the whole idea it's great... and big fun! The point is that I've sent this link to some friends, also graphic designers, from my former job (now I work as a freelancer) and they almost enjoyed it..., but they don't speak English, so they missed half the fun. What do you think if I translate the text (absolutely for free, of course) so you can add the Spanish version? My personal email is jbierzo@hotmail.com if you like the idea and want to comment about it. By the way, I recognized a couple of characters from the studio I worked in! Terrible, isn't it? yours Juan Pascual

Okay, so it's time for an update on who will soon be wearing this month's crown as "Lynn's Second Favorite Country In The World." I've been getting a lot of international traffic on lynnster.com this month, & the countries vying for second place to my own are still Canada, Poland & Belgium. We have a fierce battle being waged! IT'S NECK IN NECK, PEOPLE!!!!!!!
Canada 24976 hits (2.77%) Poland 24646 hits (2.73%) Belgium 22310 hits (2.47%)
Pick your favorite. Make your wages. Don't underestimate Poland!

PATRON SAINT OF GRAPHIC DESIGN *LIMITED EDITION* MOUSEPADS & OTHER RELICS SOON AVAILABLE HERE FOR YOU TO COVET!And a portion of each purchase will go to charity. It's true! I am planning to make saints candles & much cooler, more unique stuff like that for purchase down the road... but to test the market I will be *temporarily* opening a Cafe Press shop. I'd rather charge less for products, but oh well. For right now Cafe Press is convenient. I haven't finished creating the artwork for all of the products so I haven't announced the link on my site yet. But if any of you want to take a look at the beginnings of it and give me feedback please feel free to do so. Or if you have a sudden need for a mousepad... purchase away.

Lynnster- I surfed in from J-Walk blog then laughed & laughed. Your Saints brought back some ancient memories, especially St. Exacto with his missing fingertip! 'The Church of Rubylith' & 'Saint Kimwipe of Bestine'... talk about (my) OLD days! (Are designers still using that stuff?) Well done, dear lady, well done!

why, yes... some of us still do use xactos...or would that be xactoes? i live at a very large corp that still does utilize xacto knives... i do occasionally and you don't want to be careless or you pee in a cup so...most artists here just plain don't report it or just are v-e-r-r-r-y careful. but most of it is on the 'puter.
hey...how about a saint of color separation or maybe color calibrater?

oh, I still use X-actos... but rubylith, amberlith, zipatone, kroytype, bordertape, bestine, kimwipes, rapidographs, etc.? That stuff can all rest somewhat in peace and I thank God for that.
There are so many other ideas for saints that I'd like to do. Down the road I'll probably add 6 more & I'll be putting an area on the site where people can post their ideas for biographies for them. The site will be expanding little by little, it's just that since there's only one of me and I'm doing all of this stuff around my paying work it's going to be happening over time. I will probably do small posters in a month or so. I originally created the saints for my web site & business cards so I didn't think I needed to create them at a larger size... sooo, I can't print them on anything too large without having to recreate all of the artwork from scratch first. And, ummm, I'm lazy. I'm still tired from creating them the first time. FYI, there is no contest this month as one competitor has won the race without question... my second favorite country for May is Brazil. Obrigada! THOUSANDS of Brazilians have visited the Saints this month & have linked to them in numerous blogs. On a side note, I didn't link to all of the Brazilian blogs who were kind enough to link to me because a few of them weren't safe for American work viewing. My my, some of you Brazilians really like to put pictures of naked women on your weblogs, don't you? It's funny... there'll be a link to a news story, then... boobs. A link to the Saints... more boobs. It's Brazilian Boobapalooza! (Every american man reading this now wants the links to those sites, don't you?)

I spent 13 yrs. in Catholic school and have been in advertising for 20+ years... add that to a completely warped sense of humor and total appreciation of unique applications in creating humor...this sent me over the wall. I then proceeded to send to all my ad friends, laughing wildly at the response of the ones I knew who grew up Catholic. Then, I read all the copy...you are my new idol, mentor for the bizarre and unusual and can only hope that someday our paths will cross. Until, then, keep thinking!

My brother sent me the url for your Patron Saints. I was laughing out loud - which attracted no attention, for I do that a great deal anyway. (For what it's worth, I am of a vintage to recognize many of the players in St. Exacto's tale.)
My biggest problem is I'm THE graphic designer in an in-house situation... I have no one to share this with! Oh well... I'll figure that out. In the mean time, all hail St. Pixela and blessed be St. Concepta!!!

For those of you calling on Saint Typo... well, apparently the people who typeset Bibles need some help too... Some Notorious Typos Found in the BibleBy The Associated Press May 19, 2004, 2:58 PM EDT Some notorious typos found in the Bible throughout history: * Blessed are the place-makers (instead of "peacemakers"), Matthew 5:9. * Thou shalt commit adultery, Exodus 20:14. * Know ye not that the unrighteous shall (omitted "not") inherit the kingdom of God, 1 Corinthians 6:9. * Printers (instead of "Princes") have persecuted me without a cause, Psalm 119:161. * Go and sin on (instead of "no") more, John 8:11. * The fool hath said in his heart there is a (instead of "no") God, Psalm 14:1. * Let the children first be killed (instead of "filled"), Mark 7:27. * These are murderers (instead of "murmurers"), complainers, Jude 16. * The murderer shall surely be put together (instead of "to death"), Numbers 25:18. * He hath ears to ear (instead of "hear"), let him hear, Matthew 11:15. * I will ... that women adorn themselves in modern (instead of "modest") apparel, 1 Timothy 2:9.

Hi Lynn - Fabulous! A designer friend sent this to work today, and it was just what I needed! My Mac system at home took a dive (now repaired), I have a miserable cold (now in remission), and you've restored my faith in those with a distorted sense of humor! Started as a Typographer 30 years ago, which evolved into design, so definitely appreciate your "saints." Let me know when posters become available...want the set. Moved from California to Spokane 4 years ago and sometimes miss the excitement and glamour, but you brought it all back with your glorious site. God bless you and keep up the great work. Marilyn

At the risk of seeming a real geek (a risk I have already taken by identifying the source text of Lorem Ipsum) let me remind you that monks in the middle ages--and I am not making this up--had identified the evil spirit who caused typos: Titivallus, demon of mistakes. He and St Typo have no doubt had much interaction over the years.
I have really got to respect someone who has taken this much trouble for such a high-minded cause. May St Impracticalia of Weems bless you richly.

Wish I had known about you sooner, I've been writing textbooks since Earth's crust cooled. Also working directly with my great designer and production team, artists, and photographers to create original art and page layouts, including compositing. Translated all over the world. All of which is to say I can appreciate deeply the witty text, fonts, art composition and colors, and grace of your unique Patron Saints collection.

Lynn,
Our Government doesn't help old people in any way. They help all the Foreign Countries as if we are all rich, which is a joke, with our taxes. I do not think the younger generation is going to stand for it, I certainly hope not. You can own a house here and not have enough money to keep it up on Social Security, But cannot afford medicine. We sell it to Canada and buy it back cheaper??? Crazy world. Hope we make it through. Our government is suppose to be for the people and by the people, but is really what the Senators and House want. They give them selves a raise. We get 1.5 % raise per year.

I became confused when I read the "you can own a house" sentence. Alas, I live in Los Angeles... I can't afford to own a garage small enough to fit one mountain bike.
Regarding the government... hard to believe that it was less than ten years ago that we actually had a budget surplus. Funny how we give all of our money to other nations, yet right now we are hated worldwide more than we probably ever have been. hmmm. Ok, I'm gonna shut up now. Sigh.

Why did you assume I'm in the U.K.? The dry sense of humor? Speaking of where I live... it looks like I'm going to be summering in the Bay area, on a contracted design assignment in Palo Alto for 10 weeks (starting June 14th). Other than a few friends & clients in San Francisco I don't really know anyone up there. I'm just now looking for rooms to rent in Palo Alto... to be honest, I've only spent one day of my life there so far. SOOO, if anybody lives in the Bay area (or knows people in the Bay area) & has advice to help me have a fun & stress-free summer up there, please let me know! I can use all of the help I can get. Of course, I'd also be thrilled to meet new friends to hang out with over the summer too. I'm looking forward to it all, actually... I love Northern California.

I'm in my mid-30s, I just think I'm younger. ;)
Somehow the Patron Saints have found their way across the world & back since March. This month it's been pretty popular in Brazil for some reason, but it's gotten various amounts of hits from 68 other countries on top of that. It really amazes me. Before now I'd never even heard of places like Niue and Tuvalu (I guess they're both islands in the South Seas), but not only do they apparently have the internet there, it seems they must have graphic designers too!
Gotta love the web.

You are younger than my youngest child. I am 64 and I have only Social Security to live on. Stayed home with my Kids until school. So d Avon to pay for them to go to Kindergarten. Their Dad would not. He still lives alone and not well. I stay with him so my daughter can have a vacation with her 7 members. We will have a big celebration here in Bedford Va. ( near Roanoke) at the D-Day Memorial today and the first Parade ever on Memorial Day. If ever in this area, I do have a guest room in the mountains near the Blue Ridge Parkway. I watch the bird and Deer, even saw a white skunk one night. I wish I had started a Diary 7 years ago when I moved here in this old farm house.Oh, there goes a wood pecker on the house, have to run him away.He has plenty of trees. God Bless you always! M.

I agree! Thanks! They're on the list of stuff I want to do... I'm just so crazy busy with work right now that I have to postpone them for a bit. In the meantime, the money that the Cafe Press site makes pays for the site and is going into a fund to create the future products I want to offer. So I'm leaving L.A. on Friday to work in Palo Alto at Klutz Publishing for the summer, filling in for someone on maternity leave (adopting a Chinese baby). Talk about needing a miracle: anyone ever tried to pack 3 months worth of your life into a Mazda Miata? It's turning into an oversized rolling suitcase! Here's the ironic part... I bought a luggage rack for my Miata & am going to pick it up today... only, the box that the luggage rack comes in is too large for me to fit in the Miata. I need a luggage rack to pick up my luggage rack!

I *think* I'm doing both; I do know I'll be overseeing 3 or 4 books. I've always wanted to have more publishing in my portfolio so that's going to be fun. I love Klutz's products & Palo Alto's a pretty cool place too, from what I've seen of it. (Plus I'll get to hang out with my friends in San Francisco on the weekends!) Should be a nice summer this year.
Regarding the prayer cards by the way, originally the saints were created to be exactly that. I made them to be a mailer. But then I estimated how much they'd cost to print & it was pricey. Didn't have the funds so I decided to put them on my website instead for the time being. Ended up being a blessing because the internet is where they found much greater popularity than the mailer would've given them. So I actually have the cards all set to be printed but I just haven't had the time.

I haven't picked up the luggage rack just yet but I'm trying to sweet talk them into installing it for me in the parking lot. Batting my eyelashes a lot over the phone at this point. It doesn't always come in handy to be female but I'm hoping it will on this particular occasion. Gotta pack up the car & move from Bev-er-lee!
Hi Pulatti. Well, once I get the time to expand the saints & have it all ironed out how to go about it, I'm definitely not ruling out the idea of cross promoting at design events. For right now the Saints are just a fun little internet thing... who knows what'll happen down the road.
As far as freelance talent... P. darlin' you're pitching me for work when I haven't even started my OWN freelance job yet! Gotta let me get settled in a bit first... I have no idea what I'm going to be doing at this point. Fact is I've still got to pack up all of my stuff and make the 7 hour drive!

I hear you on the time issue...it is one precious commodity that we all seem to run out of. As far as selling the shirts at these design conferences...well there is photoshop world which occurs maybe two to three times a year...(I mean the big ones) last one was just a few months ago in SF...and I know I would of bought a t-shirt had they been right there ready for me. When you have a 'shitload' of creative peeps in the same location, well then you gots a bit of money to burn and there was not much there to spend my bucks on but there were vendors there pushing their products. I know there is a licensing issue with regards to photoshop and illustrator but damn, what funny saints could you come up with in regards to them...and quark...geeeeze, that one is funny before you get started.... good luck with the boys and your luggage rack...by the way, have you thought of wearing a bathing suit top when you go and ask them for help????

St. Clare (patron saint of TV, I might add!) and St. Therese who showered the land with roses when she died. Really good trick. Would love to get Graphic Design Sainthood someday. Can I apply???

Actually Clare, visiting the Church of St. Clare in Assisi, Italy in '96 is part of what inspired me to do the saints. The experience really stuck with me somehow. And yes, you can apply for design sainthood. I'll send you the application. ;)
I haven't been to the Mac Design conferences, I'm glad to hear that they're good. I've been to Photoshop World 3x. NAPP has made an immense difference in my understanding of Photoshop, and the level of work I've been able to do. The saints would DEFINITELY not exist without a lot of the things I learned at Photoshop World. Well, they might but they wouldn't look as good.
Thanks for the compliments, Erik. It's funny how you can work your rear off for years and have no idea of how much you've accomplished until you have to put a website together & see it all in one place. I honestly didn't realize how much work I'd racked up over the years... but then I looked at my bank account and was left wondering why I'm poor. (Oh yes, I remember now... I worked for Disney. That explains it.) ;)
Anyhow, no need to be jealous, sweetie. If you tirelessly plug away for a decade or two, you too can become a destitute art director with a large portfolio! Hee.
Kidding. I love what I do -- no complaints whatsoever.

Pulatti, I'm an art director for a small publisher in Evanston, IL. So print design is my thang. Indesign, Photoshop & Illustrator, etc. But at the conference...I dabbled in the Digital Video track a little bit. You see, I've started a new foundation for Autism (because of my daughter), and we're going to be creating educational media (films) for parents and the medical community. I want to broaden my skills and be much more cross-disciplinary.
And Lynnster...while my career is 11 years old now, I've only been on the 'design end' as an art director for 5 years. And all my work has been for publishers...so I don't get a chance to do some of the cool stuff you have. My jealousy/envy is for some of the projects you've been working on. While I don't think I've reached the azimuth of my creative potential...I think my career will drift more toward 'departmental' production management. I'm currently courting a magazine publisher for an executive director position in charge of production. I hope that my having been in the creative trenches will uniquely qualify me to be the best darn boss a designer ever had. :-)

Mary, I totally understand why you wouldn't want these e-mails. Thing is, you are not on the Patron Saints e-mail list, the e-mails you're getting are because when you clicked on that pretty yellow button above, you requested to be e-mailed every time someone put a comment into this guest book. Those mailings are sent by Quicktopic, the site which interfaces my guestbook. You signed up for it by clicking the "subscribe" button above. In order to unsubscribe just click the same button & tell it you want to "unsubscribe."The only e-mails I personally send out happen when the occasional new thing happens with the Saints. If that was the list you wanted to be on, just let me know & I'll put you on there. Those e-mails are only occasional.

Erik, I know what you mean. I guess that was one of the good things about living in Los Angeles, there were opportunities if I wanted to look for them that I wouldn't have gotten in other places. I realized early on that I was stinky at designing annual reports & stuff. And then I was called on to freelance in the Board Games department at Mattel for one day & stayed 3 years. It all kind of built up from there. I found that I loved designing packaging & things for kids in particular & that I get bored if I don't have variety. Then a few years rolled around where work was scarce so I had to find work doing anything & everything. Pretty much stalked people into hiring me. Those are the years I think most of my portfolio is from. Fortunately my stalking days are currently on the decline. ;)
Yes Jeff, I know what you mean. I'm not Catholic either... although I've now been declared an honorary one by many people who've visited my site. I mention it on the "about" page, but to see the Nuns of St. Clare sing vespers was such an moving experience, it's something I'll always treasure. There was some other amazing stuff I saw while I was there too, it's just hard to find words to describe the experiences.
I'm a very spiritual person (and I've found my spirituality increases the more I travel -- amazing how it centers you), but as someone with 3 siblings who are born again Christians, I've never been a big fan of organized religion... I feel that a person's faith should be a private thing. That said, my time in Assisi was filled with some of the most moving & holy emotions I've ever felt, in any church or out. It was very, very intense. Oh, and plus they make really great truffle pasta over there too. Yummmmy.

Welcome Space Brothers... thanks for coming in peace, we all appreciate it I'm sure.
Big gigantic, mega newsflash... someone from How Magazine contacted me via e-mail & they might actually do a little story on the Saints. I'm a bit in shock, really.
As with most 20 somethings with delusions of taking over the world, it was a little art school dream of mine to someday have magazine articles written about something I designed... but I gave up on that idea a long time ago in order to concentrate on the reality of paying my rent. So, this is kinda freakin' cool!
Thanks to everyone for supporting the saints... you all seriously rock!

Well Pulatti, I'm just happy that my fundamentalist Christian sister was wrong. Between you & I, when she looked at the saints, she pretty much told me that I was going to be smote for them... that her god is not one to be mocked... blah blah. I did 'em anyhow because I my sister couldn't find her sense of humor with a map. I just crossed my fingers & hoped that people might understand the spirit they were created in was purely positive & there was absolutely no mocking going on.
I just honestly didn't expect for them to become so popular worldwide. It floors me daily. I was reading the HOW forum boards and a bunch of people were talking about how they printed out the saints from their computers & have them hanging in their cubes. I'm just happy that people are enjoying something I worked so hard on. Of course, it wouldn't stink if they sent me a few bucks for printing out my art, but hey it's cool...
And hey, thanks for the young age comment, I needed that! ;)

well...just fyi, your saints have circulated in the radical studio that I reside in within Hallmark...but not to worry about plagerisms...this place is soo conservative that they look at me weirdly when I cross my eyes and stick out my tongue at others...(geeze can you imagine???) they are all excellent and humorous and tell your sister that the creator laughs at them as well...geezus...if it weren't for the dreamers in this world we would of diminished ions ago!!!! i love your dreamin...keep it up and by all means let's have some more when you have another brain fart!!!! party on sista!

You seem to have hit a nerve in the www body, just as has Dan Brown in the "literati". I've thoroughly enjoyed perusing your creatively inspired site and refuse to play Devil's Advocate in you unavoidable cannonization. Do keep up the great works and I will check you out now and then. thanks everybody... you're all very kind. ;) To those of you who've been e-mailing me to tell me the Cafe Press coasters & tile boxes are out of stock... well, I called them to complain. I'm not happy about it, & this whole "shopkeeper" thing is totally new to me so bear with me. Below is the e-mail they sent me in regards to when the tiles will be available again. Feel free to call the number below & urge them to hurry up. Considering how many stores they have, they shouldn't be running out of things. That seems very unprofessional to me, & I'm sorry. Lynn Hi Lynn,
I apologize for the inconvenience. The tiles and tile boxes are currently out of stock. The estimated delivery time for out of stock items is 2-3 weeks. However, they are trying to get them as earlier. You may also check our product center and message boards for more information and updates. If you have any other inquiries, please do not hesitate to contact us by email or at the number below.

Ave Lynn gratia plena! Your saints are exquisite -- even a copywriter such as myself can see that. My sister, Jean T., sent them my way as I was wrestling my way through a less than celestial project. Miraculously, I do feel renewed and inspired as a result of genuflecting at your shrine to creativity. In addition to the lovely relics you already have, I would welcome the opportunity to purchase votive candles (I pray a lot when I'm deadlining). As someone who writes about risk management and litigation, I also wanted to suggest that you may want to slightly change St. Pantone & St. Exacto's names lest you be smote by corporate dragons and the legal teams who attend to them. Anyway, brilliant, wonderful work. I hope you get a plenary indulgence (or money, the next best thing) for each hit on your site. Carol M

Thanks Carol! I'm happy to have helped. ;)
Candles & saints medals will be on the way in the future, but I probably won't be able to concentrate on that until fall. I'm so busy with work right now that the Cafe Press has just been convenient for now (although if they don't get the coasters back in stock soon I'm gonna be a little miffed). In order to do the custom stuff I'd like to do, I'll have to start dealing with a lot of things like warehousing & fullfillment that Cafe Press deals with on my behalf. Right now I am just too busy to concentrate on it, but it's in the works.
I know whatcha mean about pantone & exacto. (Although in truth, exacto isn't the trademarked company name... that's X-Acto.) Anyhow, I very obviously never expected the saints to reach the popularity they did, so didn't expect it to be too much of an issue initially. Definitely have to consider that stuff in the future. But so far I'm not big enough for them to be that concerned about me. If the HOW Magazine article comes out, then I might have to start being concerned... but I have faith that everything will work out ok in the end. No need for the corporate dragons to bear their teeth at me, I'm harmless.
If anything, I'm bringing them some kick ass publicity that confirms them as key aspects of the design profession & they should be flattered. Anyone can see that it's the highest form of compliment to have a saint named after you!

Dearest W. Lynn, Delightful site. Also, you neglect to mention under patron saint Typo that he resides at the right hand of Mike Nesmith's mother. Yes, Mr. Nesmith made his money NOT by being the most adorable Monkee...nor from making the first music video (Elephant Parts) but by inheriting his mother's estate. His mother? She Who Invented Liquid Paper. I am not making this up. This is a real true fact. You see kids, you can make a bundle in this business.

Here we go again. Some people do not pay attention. I won't use names, but I'm REALLY hoping you know who you are and will pay attention now since this is the FOURTH time I've tried to get this message to you! Once again dear friends, IF YOU ARE GETTING THESE MESSAGES VIA E-MAIL (and there are 13 of you that are) & DO NOT WANT THEM, you are getting them SOLELY because you decided to click on the yellow box on the QuickTopic feedback page that says "subscribe". What you subscribed to was only the guestbook ITSELF, NOT the Saints mailing list!!! After clicking on that link & entering your info, QuickTopic now e-mails you every time someone writes a comment in here. This has nothing -- NOTHING -- to do with me, nor does this have anything to do with the Saints, it is purely a function of QuickTopic.com's bulletin board interface. I beg of you, if you don't want these e-mails, PLEASE take yourself off of the list the same way you put yourself on it. Please refrain from writing me e-mails telling me how I'm taking up too much of your time & interrupting your workflow or something. Do not curse the Saints... we're not involved... I haven't sent out a Saints e-mail in over two months! Truth is, I don't have time to repeatedly sit here trying to help you fix something I have nothing to do with & then have you write me again with more complaints after not listening. So here we go AGAIN... TO GET OFF OF THIS LIST, click on the yellow box above just as you did before (or click here) and UNSUBSCRIBE YOURSELF. I'm NOT doing it for you! To subscribe to the official Patron Saints mailing list on the other hand, just e-mail me. You will NOT get spam, the e-mails are infrequent (fewer than if you subscribe to this guestbook, that's for sure!) & will only be sent out when there's actual news going on with our saintly friends. As always, bless you all for your support. Sorry if I sounded a little cranky above. People who complain more than once & still refuse to listen just annoy me sometimes. I'm human. Fancy that. xoxoxox. Lynn

Here's the word: "The December issue will probably mail out around Nov. 1. Your saints are the leading story in our Design Stuff section. Glad to get in tune w/your site. You are well- named, for it derives from Melinda or Honey or Sweet, and your site is. FYI, San Ramon Nonatus is also the patron saint of the unborn, or those "ripped untimely from the womb" à la MacBeth's foe. Now with your artisitic sense, I'd love to see your image of St. Fiacre (patron of gardeners) whose attributes are: Benedictine robe, shovel, and carrying a seed box. Good to have levity on the internet. Edward Connors

I must admit this site made my last few days. I am really impressed by this great conceptual work and atmosphere created to surround all of the Saints. I would love to hang them in my room. Is there any possibility to be able to buy printouts? I just dream to see all of them (100×70) hanged in beautiful canvas just around my working place. Really inspirational and deeply thoughtful. I envy u such brilliant idea:D
EDIT: Pleasem inform me (siara@3cube.pl) if you plan to allow us to buy printouts of them - I can assure u I will be the first to get the full set. I think that I found my inspirational idols. Please...

Oh you are such a naughty one!
You've gone and let the cat out of the bag! If you aren't careful you'll put us school psychologists out of business. Of courswe all knew aboutv the secret - have you ever meat a shrink who wasn't a nerd AND/OR Freak?
I've passed it on to several school psych friends and will probably send it off to NASP (Nat. Assoc of School Psychologists) but you may fine the NASP big wigs sending the guys in the funny suits (not the white suited ones - the ones with the fedora hats and swarthy features) out to silence you.
I will also share it with my Special Ed Nerds after Xmas break - I'm very interested in how it will be recieved.
T.C. Tindall, Ed.D. (table between D and E)
PS any comments on the old "Tracking" system. A's were college bound, B's were Jill and Joe everybody and C's were the dummies and the smart asses (funny that no matter how smart or talented we were the table D's were almost always C tracked - usually for "bad attitudes")

Fantastic. So very well done, and such great humor. I shall double bookmark this one.
Suggest you make more cafepress products though - journals, prints, postcards, mousepads, tshirts would all be great with those images! even the bags - I'd carry arund one of those any day. and one on one of the lunch boxes? how could any graphic designer resist taking his lunch to work in one? more! more!
what's your next project?

Wow! Thanks for all of the lovely words of support! ;)
So I see you all are still pushing me to do more stuff. Good. I've felt horribly guilty for not doing more on this site as I'd promised... I've been commuting to the Bay area for work since June so I've just been incredibly distracted. I'm officially moving there now though (the movers deliver my stuff to my new place on January 3rd) so I'll finally have all of my belongings & computer equipment by my side.
Keep the feedback coming! It's great! I'm thrilled to hear that people are continuing to be entertained by the saints... once I get unpacked & settled in, I'll try to start planning what to do next. Keep nagging me! ;)
P.S. - FYI, there are mousepads and journals & stuff on the Cafe Press site. Maybe I need to reorganize the site a bit so they're easier to find...

Womanfriend, this is the funniest site ever. Not only because I'm a practically twelve-steppin' recovering Catholic, but because I spent years as an advertising junkmail copywriter and had to deal extensively with graphic designers (oy!) and often even acting as one myself. I was there when they actually used spray mount and exacto knives! (Now it's pretty much all computer.) A suggested demon might be The Devil of Changes. If I walked up to a pasteup artist and said we have to change this layout, I was lucky to leave with only singed eyebrows. (Once, a copy block had been pasted in upside down, and when I brought it back, the pasteup person snarled and ripped it out of my hands as if I had done it!) All this of course translates into the alleged accuracy of the computer Photoshop age, so that doesn't replace the need for the Patron Saints!!! (I call upon St. Typo if there are tybos in this, but hey! I wrote junkmail!)
Thank you... I'm sending this link to many...

Lynnster: Thanks so much for an incredible site! As a good catholic boy, I spent time studying the lives of Saints when I was young. I often found them quite facinating. As an adult Graphic Artist, I can certainly relate to your Patron Saints of Graphic Artists, especially St. Pantone. You're right...the wool on that lamb is the perfect shade :-) Ten years ago, I would have been a pal to St. Exacto, but have generally retired my exacto-knife since my computer. (I always loved to Spray mount back then, and am fascinated by the image of spray-mounted farm animals!! WOW!) In the days ahead, as I am challenged by my boss to "just be creative!" I will revisit these patron saints for inspiration and a good chuckle. Thanks for brightening my day. Your work is really quite amazing! p.s. I'm sending this link on to 2 of my sisters across the country who are also graphic artists. I'm sure they'll enjoy it. - Bob

These are absolutely brilliant! I hope this website is proving a good marketing tool for you. Did you paint them from scratch or find portraits you could doctor? Either way, it's delightful work. Copy is great, too. After years of designing in theatre, I can certainly relate to these characters. They speak to anybody in deadline-ridden artwork - now that SHOULD be an oxymoron: deadline and artwork. Sigh, wish it was.
Thank you for a rich chuckle. We are NOT alone!!

Hi there Pepper. To find out more about how the saints page was created, you can scroll down their about page for more information. In the meantime, here's a paragraph from it: As many of my friends know, I obsessed over the artwork for weeks to make the series as beautiful as I could. I began with mostly black & white archival images of Saints, which I altered, retouched & colorized in Photoshop, collaging in modern elements here & there to add to the story (For example, Saint Pixela was playing an organ in front of a curtain, not sitting at a computer & working on the Sistine Chapel). So to answer the most frequently asked question: the Saints portraits are not oil paintings, they are original digital photocollages comprised of retouched & altered scans, photos & royalty free art. They exist due to the magic of Photoshop, my friends. Blessed be Saint Pixela!

Happy New Year. Yours is a stunning site. Clever, beautiful... brilliant. Just like I would have done. Had I the Muse. The clients have no f...ing idea of X-Acto or Pantone, but they will still be intrigued. So nice that intelligence is still rampant in our diddy-fart, new age, policitically correct, watch your ass, keep a low profile then stab 'em the back, current social matrix.

Very funny stuff-and a WHOLE lotta work even if it was done on a computer!! Me-I am a "digital stripper" now (gone are the days of shooting pasteups in darkrooms). I happened upon your Patron Saints of Graphic Design--thanks for the delightful humor. As a lifelong practicing Catholic (and nun for nearly 40 years), I think you should know a literary predecessor: SAINT FIDGETA AND OTHER PARODIES by John Bellairs. Parody is a wonderful way of balancing the tendency of religious pontificating!

Actually Julian, I'm NOT a web designer so it's funny that you would say that. For the past 15 years, I have work entirely in print design and lynnster.com is the only website I've ever created. This url is a home for my portfolio and resume... the Patron Saints began on the side as a goofy little art project that ended up becoming popular. That said, the saints have actually brought far more people to hire me for graphic design because they showcase my photoshop and copywriting skills (and my sense of humor) far better than any Disney packaging or corporate brochure ever would. Most of the people who are commenting on my actual graphic design are those who took a minute to look at my portfolio. Check it out and you will see more graphic design than anyone ever needs to look at in one sitting.

Ms. Garrett:
I am amazed, enthralled, laughing my ass off, awed, and just plain tickled by the Patron Saints of Graphic Design...
I really do wish that the retail side of the sainthood included portraits (suitable for framing, of course - and even might include an appropriate relic as part of the manuscript). Also, I'd like to see an assortment of cards instead of sets of a single design...
Please consider my prayers and respond in your own miraculous way... to prismprinting@optonline.net if not by vision...

One of the miracles of the web is the corners it reaches... looking for design-intervention, here in New Zealand, I came across your site... for the last few years I've always done wee 'shout-out' whispers of gratitude to the 'Design Gods' when a glitch has been caught before going to client or print. So your Saintly site fully impressed and made humourous sense. (notable work too)

Yep Steve, my shop is a Cafe Press shop. Thing is... 2004-2005 I became so busy with work and traveling up and down the coast of California that I haven't had time to breathe. Wanted to expand the site but I have been like a chicken with my head cut off for most of the year. Kinda felt like I could only do so much at one time and if I did more designs for this site they would've had to be very, very rushed which is not my style. This site has been a labor of love, not the kind of thing I want to work on half-assed.
Anyhow, life is starting to settle down a little now, and I just set up my fancy new digital studio last week... so I'll start responding to people's requests soon. ;)
And to all of you who've written me, posted feedback, put this site on your blog or e-mailed it to your friends and coworkers... to all of you who have supported this site so much... I thank you with all of my heart. I've sincerely appreciated it far more than you know.
Hope you're having a great summer!

Hi, I am a graphic designer and Catholic seminarian studing for the Roman Catholic preisthood. I wanted to let you know that there are patron saints for artists as well ad greeting card creators. There are a few different patron saints of artist, so choose your pick. St. Fra Angelico, he was a renaissance artist whose works decorate part of the Vatican. There is also St. Catherine of Bologna, she created illuminated manuscripts and icons. As well as there is a tradition that St. Luke the Apostle was also a painter and has been held as a spiritual inspiration for those who paint. I have included a link below for more information on patron saints. http://www.catholic-forum.com/saintsGod doesn't choose the qualified he qualifies the chosen. http://www.crucedesign.com

Hi Ana Maria. Raul has written me a few times over the last year, he is a wonderful artist.
Please understand that my saints are not official saints of the Catholic church, I created them myself. I am Catholic myself, but I love art history and over the years I have studied real saints quite a bit (obviously). Still, you can feel free pray to these saints all you like... it's definitely worked for me throughout the last few years.
Thanks again for the support.

Thanks for all of the nice messages from all around the world! It's very cool. I sincerely appreciate the support & compliments.
And I love looking at your websites, just as long as you don't link to a site that is actually not your "website" but rather a scam trying to get people to buy prescription drugs. I will delete your post immediately if you link to spam.

Mr. Garrett,
My daughter found your website this evening and is so excited to see the Paul Bunyan and Disney Dragon Sets. Please tell me they are available for purchase. I know it probably sounds strange but she is a Paul Bunyan fanatic. She is currently writing a screen play that she hopes to make into a movie one day when she works for Disney. Would you be so kind as to answer our e mail? I hope something can be worked out so I can buy those two sets for her. My e mail address is marie1465@centurytel.net. Thank you in advance for your consideration. She is also an artist and she loved your work on your site. Thank you again.
Marie and Alexandra Bryant

Hi everybody.
As always, I sincerely appreciate your posts, comments, questions and support. Unfortunately, people have recently been abusing this guestbook, however. It's rude & it needs to END. So, for the last time, if you include a link to a spam site anywhere within your post, it will be deleted immediately. Please don't waste people's time (including your own)... this forum is not going to generate any business for your scams.
Thanks.

A day looking for life and times of saints to get some artwork and paintbrushes moving...what a blessed and bloody relief to stumble upon this site! I have sipped at the holy lake of inspiration and will journey to the shed now to commune with my canvas. I wish you were my friend - I am quite prepared to get rid of at least 5 for your company. They're only Australians and at todays exchange rate I can only get one US or a Brit for 5 of them. love fifi western australia

How funny was that! As a Catholic, I was doing a search on patron saints to find a medal for my husband before he leaves for Iraq for 6 months... and as a graphic designer, I of course had to look at your site - I was pleasantly surprised and am impressed by the genius of the idea! Thanks for a laugh, I'll look forward to seeing updates and additions in the future!

The text typesetting is kind of pedestrian (excessive letter-spacing, obliques instead of italics, double-hyphens instead of em-dashes), but it's still delightful.

As head of production for an advertising agency in Boston for 9 years - and co-owner of a graphics production studio in Cambridge for the 9 years before that - I LOVE THIS! :-) It's funny, clever, and nicely presented. I'm now in Vermont working with book production so as the years and technology have evolved so have I ... and you're still uniquely hysterical. So nice to find/share with other crazies!

Lynn, I clicked on your profile today to add you as one of the users that I link to on my profile page, and noticed that you had a website up. Im glad I clicked on it too, because I wouldve missed your extremely charming site. One of the first things that I was searching for, was a picture (I usually like to get a visual cue of a person so that I can place him or her with his or her name [might be in relation to my being bipolar, but anyway]), Im glad that you posted it up. And I loved all the cartoon images in your Highlight series, and that DVD cover of Cast Away, not to mention the Italian Postcardthat seemed like it wouldve taken a long time?
You seem to be an extremely talented Art Director! (So talented in fact that you enticed me to actually register and post, something which I _never_ do for some odd reason, again something to do with my bipolar disorder, but anyhoo. You rock, and thats what counts!

Green, I am a close friend of some of your friends in Milwaukee. Remember Cathy Watson and Patti Shotola? They are both friends of mine. I have seen your very large 60's painting that Patti Shotola has. Cathy just talked to Mike (from the Shaggs) he lives in the City. Mike is comming to Milwaukee in the next month and the group is getting together for lunch. Patti just got married for the 1st time. Patti is still sewing shirts for men mostly. She was in the womans clothing business for a few years. Making those outragious designs. I had lunc with Cathy and she gave me your post card that is how I arrived here. Hope this note gets to you. Love your work it is so colorful. I am an artist as well , painting.

I had visited your site a few years ago, I can't remember how I landed here for the first time, but today I was surfing the internet and remembered that I refered at this site many times while having amusing talks with others designers I know but no one knew about this Saints or this site. I live in Mexico City, and as you should know, most of the people are Catholics, but none of us could feel offensive this creative work you've developed, despite of that, I feel is a recognition of the religious icons that we believe in, so... now I can say that I am devoted to St. Anxieté, none other Saint could understand better my own Anxieté, in fact, I've remember her when i've found myself chasing the King of Fedex!! many times, when the clock is marking 5:55 p.m.!!

Luckily, I stumbled upon this site while researching obscure patron saints for a novel. As a Catholic and former Liturgy Lady, I hooted with delight at these most worthy saints. As an artist, I am blown away by your work and resume. You are an amazing talent, m'dear. Keep it up--and more saintworks, please!

Well, I can tell this is supposed to be funny but it doesn't make me laugh. And what does a pianist losing their fingers have to do with graphics?
Ah, well.

Most interesting site! Subjects dear to my heart after many years in the industry (dating back to hot metal). All good stuff, but please, please leave the ampersands out of your text! Otherwise, we may as well typeset everything as an SMS. OK in a headline, but nothing is wrong with the good old conjunction "and".
Oh, and without sounding too picky... resume needs an acute on both the "E"s.
Apart from that 9/10!
