Derek is reading tomorrow (Friday night, Feb 6, 8:00) at the IV Lounge. I encourage all Toronto area ninjas to congregate on said lounge (just west of University on the north side of Dundas -- right across from the front doors of the AGO) and beg for his autograph.
I'm surprised Mr. Boyd, an oft lurk'd ninja, hasn't posted this himself...
Oh yes, and buy The Haunted Hillbilly.

HELLO!!!! Nudie's Rodeo Tailors here! We are not amused by a portrayal of Nudie as a gay vampire! The truth is always stranger than fiction - so buy "Nudie - the Life and Times or the Original Rhinestone Cowboy" and wrap your minds around the real story. Cheap shots on Nudie and trying to profit from his name and legacy are just plain stupid. Nudie and Hank had a wonderful relationship, as Nudie did with all his clients who became his friends. For every Elvis and Hank W. and Gram Parsons, who were self-destructive there were hundreds of artists who are still going strong like the Rolling Stones and Porter and Dolly who Nudie nourished with the finest in stagewear. The author may think he's clever will all this rot, but he should stop and think of what Nudie's 90 year old widow would think - certainly she lived the Nudie lifestyle and has a great sense of humor, but really - a gay vampire? Jeez, don't get me started. Here in the states we have laws about such things as right to publicity and trademarks, but we prefer that anyone interested in Nudie's story check out the real deal - "Nudie - The Life and Times of the Original Rhinestone Cowboy."

That excerpt, Fake Snow, was lovely; I've always loved advent calendars, I guess--this is better. Brought back memories of many broke Xmas past, all of the wonderful things my mother could do with clothespins and popcorn. So glad she didn't know about ammonia!

LoserThat would be me. Okay, the Christmas Days excerpt will appear this evening instead of this morning. Lady Ninja is on her bi-weekly jaunt to NYC and I am alone with Baby Ninja. Between juggling showers, breakfasts, and coats this morning, I'm lucky I remembered to wear pants, much less bring McCormack's book with me. Personally, I'm quite enjoying the book. And I've heard this from a couple people. The way McCormack twists the absurdity of the tradition is actually making me crave the tradition again. I'm just a ring-jing-jingly these days. Home
