Yes, I tried opine.
It's decentralized, which is nice. But it needs to have enough people using it.
I've only tried it once, on the beared (or non-bearded?) scientists post.
Tribe.net works for me, I've gotten quite involved over there.
It's problem is pretty much the same as opine -- if BoingBoing-pere does not promote it in general, it will have a quiet, lingering life. Not quite dead, but exactly alive. The Tribe.net discussion doesn't thrive, but it isn't dead, I think, mainly becuase of all of the other tribe.net traffic. But the opine-option does not have side-traffic, no way to stumble upon it, or save it, no reminders by seeing it in a list of some sort.

I will be out of the office until Monday 20th of December. In the mean time Ron Dike in Alaska (114 5021 from Oregon, 907 261 5021 from elsewhere) will be handling any issues that require my attention. Thanks, Adam

Is the address of a threaded discussion system that BB orphans are welcome to use to discuss posts. It is a little more flexible than an isolated QT thread. I realize this is an empty exercise, but then again, what isn't?

/m123 Not that I know of... (that stuff is foul tasting) The pseudonym comes from back when I was at university... It was stolen from Xavier Zwack the Bavarian lawyer who was a member of the Bavarian Illuminati. I'm not aware of any connection between him and the Hungarian herbalists...
My real name is nothing so strange...

xrad: Never clicked the "confirm" dealie so I don't think I'm listed, although I once wrote a note to Eli and gained 26,000 friends. I just move around the site like Bruce Willis in Sixth Sense - dead and moody - and read some of the folks I'm familiar with. Probably familiar with more were I to know their previous noms de plume.

/m121 You want to talk to Eli; he's the one who's mirrored the QT archives at home so he could grep and grope in the green of his grass.
