Why is it I have this sneaking suspicion that 'offending Iraqis with Photoshopped Saddam' will turn out six months from now to be yet another 'millions of artifacts looted' or 'brutal Afghan winter?'

If nothing else, it's surprisingly racist. "Them little brown folks, they just ain't capable of rational thought or comprehending i-ern-y..." The spokesman quoted is playing into the western liberal guilt complex, and quite well, too. It's carping for the sake of carping; there's nothing substantial to complain about - no genocide, no concentration camps, no rape and pillage - so why not complain about being offended? After all, it is everyone's right never to have their beliefs challenged by anything, yes?

Why is he carrying his wife around naked on his shoulders? I'm so confused--do the other family values Republicans do this as well? I will have to ask my wife now if she wants to do this. Does anyone know where I can buy steroids cheap?

Yr right Paul, it'll probably turn out to be another flash in the pan like those WMDs or ripping up pictures of the Pope. Some people are Soooooo easily offended.

If Iraqis want to rip up pictures of the Pope, I don't particularly care. It bothers me about as much as if they were to rip up pictures of Darth Vader. If you set your mind to it, you can be offended by anything.

I also don't see how the ongoing WMD issue is related. Was there a Council for the Hoarding and Deployment of Nerve Gas offended by the concept 'Iraq should not be allowed to possess WMDs?'

Sinead O'Connor.

It was in the 80s. Guess you had to be there.

"The bad guys are going to be upset," Lieutenant-Colonel Steve Russell told Reuters. "Which will just make it easier for us to know who they are."

Great, so now we're entering the realm of "Laugh at my jokes or I'll shoot you."

But they're "bad guys"! How can it be hard to know who they are? Don't they have horns and tails and turbans? I'm confused.

So... You're either with us or against us. And if you don't think this propaganda campaign is a good idea... well then you may just be an enemy combatant. Only bad guys would be upset by this, clearly.
