The RIAA picks on college geek persons cuz in their mis-informed minds they think in Penthouse terms..."I couldn't believe this co-ed wanted to get ****ed". Face it, people. Most (as in--non-trust fund) college students, aren't rich, and don't have a lot of time or other (lawyer) resources on their hands.
Also, I can borrow "****'s" latest release on CD from my friends and burn it just as easy as going on the net.
The RIAA suits suck on behalf of the meaning of music.
BTW..come up with a system where I pay the musician directly, without a middleman, and I will.

/m4, people have done so (FairTunes comes to mind, and there have been others), but not enough people actually put up their money for the scheme to work.

Almost, but not quite, as funny as an early-90's standup comic's impression of Jack Nicholson going to McDonald's.
