I believe the Iraq situation has always been about US presence in the middle east - expansion of global influence, etc; so, yes - oil!
When will the citizenry of the United States stand up and demand accountablility from its elected officials? Even those that support this incursion must admit that we are spending billion$ we do not have; ever expanding the money supply (true inflation) that reduces the value of our US currency. The American public are sheep receiving its direction from the subservient lapdog mult-media talking heads.
The United States needs NOT become entangled in the foreign affairs of other nations. Screw the UN; kick them OUT! Extricate ourselves from that black hole of entanglements. Isolationism? Hardly! The United Nations is not about solving problems, but about involving itself to achieve its own ends of power. Intelligent handling of one's own affairs recognizes the sovereignty of foreign governments. Did the debacle of Viet Nam teach us nothing? Getting involved in a civil conflict thousands of miles away from our region is sheer lunacy.
Saddam was a bad boy with the bully pulpit in a region of bad boys. Has removing Saddam stabilized the region? Did Saddam kill as many people as the butchers of Tienamen Square? And yet the US cozies up to the Red menace in the name of free trade! What a joke! The United States has enough problems in the United States, yet the internationalists remain intent on increasing their power base to include the entire world. We the People of the United States must demand of our government to use OUR resources for the security and comfort of United States citizens. Leave the middle east to the middle east. By not doing so, the US has played right into the hands of all factions of Islamic extremism. Exert pressure through diplomacy and the big stick. No more propping up regimes that are unable to sustain themselves. Remove the US military from foreign lands. NOW!
