Not only registration required, but payment required. Feh. I like Nerve, but this kinda annoys me.

My wife subscribed to their short-lived print magazine, and half-way through her subscription they sent a message saying "sorry, we're not doing this any more -- we understand we owe you a bunch of issues, and we'll give you something good to make up for it". We never heard from them again. How about a free premium membership for loyal readers?

Why bother linking to this at all? "Here's some photography you won't get to see." Great, great. This really feels like the web.

Sorry. Didn't mean to be such a tease. In my hot and bothered haste to blog it, i didn't realize *paid* registration was required, but amended the post accordingly. If there was ever an online zine worth paying for, though, Nerve just might be it.

Perhaps I can make it up to you by offering you, absolutely free of charge, some amateur porn I shot yesterday with my phonecam.

Plugh:

I had the same experience but, they gave me one year free when the premium came around. Of course I subscribed through their website, maybe you want to contact them?

Wow, this is kind of surreal. I hit this blog everyday, and love the mix of cool and weird shit that always gets posted here.

Now, it's MY work on Nerve! That's right, I'm the photographer. And, no, no mullets, trucker hats, or faux-hawks were allowed in the making of these shots, even though I happen to live in Williamsburg (OK, maybe a little Peaches was played in the background)

Anyway, cool to see me on here.

Beautiful work, Siege. So, ah, when's the next photo session?

Ha, thanks xeni. You never know when the next session breaks out, they just kind of happen...

I just cut my hair in what I had coined a 'faux-hawk', as well. Does this make me a total loser (now)?

What are you talking about, No-Name? I found it neither male-driven, nor porno looking. If you think this is male-driven porno you obviously haven't seen much online porn!
Let's see, pix of girls having obviously real orgasms (not just close-ups of their crotches), smiling, beautifully lit, fun, AND objectified male members with strap-ons? That sounds female-driven to me!
Maybe you're just sour grapes jealous? :)

yawn.

yeah, i too took some "arty" pictures of two of my female friends hooking up about 10 years ago. neato.
maybe it would have been hipper if i changed my name to "Power" or "Blast" and used a red gel.

nerve just signed me up for a premium based on these snaps of fun candy color peeks. best money i've spent in a while (even though i do miss the cheap old days before the bubble burst!)

What I really hate is when I go to see art, and it turns out it's not male-driven internet porn.

+99 (Insightful) - Sometimes I think whether or not something is art hinges upon whether or not you have a lot of hip friends and neat retro shoes. Blagh.

Hey, what's wrong with the Xeni posts? Sure, I'd like more content just as much as you would, but as long as it's interesting it doesn't matter who it's coming from.

'sexy'? If you're into CwD. 'Xeni Jardin' is a drag-queen name if ever I heard one.

Another reason I'm happy I subscribed to nerve. These photo sessions are incredible and on top of it I got a free subscription to Wired. Can a geek boy ask for anything more?

PLEASE CORY DAVID MARK POST SOON! YOUR WORK IS WHY WE FELL IN LOVE WITH BOINGBOING!

'what's wrong with Xeni's posts?'

*whew*

self-obsessed, self-impressed, soplisistic, self-aggrandizing, an endless shill for her 'friends' (maybe I'm being girly and emotional but her 'namedropping' reminds me of those bitches I hated in highschool who were the bestbest friends thisclose I swear! of the most *popular* people- can't help wondering if her life is that empty)... the list goes on and on.

It's just tiresome.

Bump womanhood. I liked boingboing better when it was a boys' club.

PLEASE CORY DAVID MARK POST SOON! YOUR WORK IS WHY WE FELL IN LOVE WITH BOINGBOING!

blah blah blah, whine whine whine.

I find the bongboing mix to be very refreshing, from the nerdy "boy" stuff, to the nerdy "xeni" stuff. It's all got sufficiently interesting merit.

Don't get pissed because Xeni manages to be sexy, hip, AND still outnerd you!

How is self-aggrandizement, self-obsession and namedroppring either sexy, hip, or "outnerding"? wtf?

this is no mix. it's good when it's cory, it's crap when it's not. end 'o story.

Listen, all blogs are is new way to name drop. Or link drop. It's all about "Hey have you seen this? It's cool". Simple as that.

And as for your wtf, WTF? Cory doesn't self-aggrandize? Ever see any posts on his writings? Oh, how about the perma-ads for his books? It doesn't matter. If you point me to cool stuff I find interesting, go ahead and aggrandize!

Are you the type that's still bitching about banner ads, but enjoying the content every day?

If you don't find it interesting, or useful, please link me to some useful or inspiring stuff you've come across (that you DIDN'T first find here).

Nothing? Thought so.

Trolls.

Can I read Cory's book for free? Yes. Can I see those images for free? No.

Besides, if you want good hipster porn you should go to suicidegirls.com.
AG  30

Surprise surprise. Some things are free and some things aren't? Shocker!

If some content providers want to give it away, great, if some don't, cool. It's theirs to decide. If you find it worth it to buy, great. I was pissed when Nerve went to pay status, and stayed away for a long time. But I've since paid, and I find it's worth the small price, to see (generally) great quality erotica.

And, btw, suicidegirls.com is also a paid site. And the photography sucks, tatted hipster girls notwithstanding. And it's certainly not porn, just a bunch of pastey hipster chicks trying to look grumpy. No real sex, and certainly nothing of the quality in this Siege's stuff.

I'm not saying it's bad, just not in the same league.

Actually, Aldous has a point. If I see another name-dropping of Warren Ellis by Cory, my head might explode.

Maybe it just annoys me cuz I think Ellis's comics suck. I read about 20 pages of the Authority trade and had to put it down, it was so awful.

Every person has their own fetishes (or is that "feti"?) and the BoingBoing gang clearly have theirs, both good and bad. Mark has the Island Adventures (which I look forward to every time he and Carla update: I feel like I'm living vicariously on that island through them); Cory has a thing for most things Disney, new sci-fi lit (most of which goes right over my head); Xeni is into the kinki cyber-sex stuff (and, for a while, the whole SARS thing, which I found more than weird after a while -- both share the theme of "exchange of bodily fluids" thing, which I wonder if Xeni ever consciously considered); and David...God, I don't know what defines him. But he seems like a nice guy and it would be nice to see him post more.

Everybody is obsessed with Apple, but that's because most of them originate from Cali, where all Good Things Come From Steve: Apple = Good and PCs = Bad. (Come to think of it: Would Jobs have a good chance if he had decided to run for governor?)

Well...I've completely forgotten what the whole point of my post is. Except I have that "The Facts of Life" sitcom theme in my head: "You take the good, you take the bad, and there you have..."

At the very least, please give us a big ol' ALL-CAPS warning when the link is to a non-free page. But other than that complaint, keep up with the excellent daily distractions & entertainment.

As far as paying for online erotica goes, I don't think I would ever do it. Not unless Taschen books was somehow involved, and the charge included getting their books at discount. =)

That's a good way to elevate, Player!

Anyway, children, back to to the gallery (which is what you're supposed to be hear about, right?)

Very interesting shots, equal parts sex and fashion, without the clothes. Different than what I'm used to seeing out there.
