Until flash mobs do something more than loiter in businesses and get in the way of people trying to go about their lives, then they should be considered stupid mobs. If they were really stickin' it to the man it'd be cool, then again revolution is not an aol keyword.

What the flashmob movement needs, imo, is better use of technology. You should be able to join a network that allows anyone to suggest an event. Preferably you sign up with a mobile device email. Although anyone can suggest an event, you can tailor your preferences to only receive events from certain people via a list you maintain and also a reputation system tailored to your tastes (maybe you like events of a certain political nature, or just silly things) maintained through a Tivo-like monitoring system and networked karma. The events should be geocoordinated. For example you can create an event and send the invite to people within a certain radius ("We're going to mob a megacorp retail store in Union Square now ...meet at....").
Once an event is posted, interested people should be able to see in realtime the participant response, so you can tell roughly how popular a certain event is.
I'd start coding something like this myself if I had the time. Opportunistic companies such as Amble Connect are already trying to move into this space. Soon flashmobs will be co-opted, just another way of targeting ads.

Every time I forget to use the Boing Filter, I am reminded of how inane Xeni's posts are.

Whats with the Xeni bashing? Sure, there's stuff here (boingboing) that I don't find grippingly exciting; something going on across the pond? Sure, whatever.
Still, to some (ie., a moi) this is interesting in the context that there is a coelescence (sp) of cultures that where the sub/contra/whatever culture is still influenced by the 'majority' "culture."
Like many people have said before, there's a filter if you can't gloss/ignore stuff.

One major point in Xeni's favor: she has never, NOT ONCE, posted a post about WiFi or a here-is-a-complete-transcription-of-the-latest-coolest-talk-at-the-latest-coolest-conference-I-am-currently-attending post.
I love you, Xeni, I want to bear your children.
Thank you.

Two, what is the point/purpose of MOST things I BoingBoing? f'r instance, what is the point of science fiction? Unlike WiFi, it won't help you get a head in business...
Nevertheless, I like useless things. (Thank you, Mr. Wilde)

Every time I view the offhandedly cruel remarks in the boingboing discussions, I'm reminded of how glad I am that I never included feedback forums on my own blog.

Hmm I'd like a topic discussion filter that removes stuff like meta-talk about how inane a poster is.

Ms. Jardin should get a badge from Mr. Gilmore bearing the caption "suspected trollorist".
This way, people could have her thrown off.
It would also help memes converge.
