PHS Swim Info  1127

Dear Swimmers and Families:

We are moving forward with full intentions of swimming the Fall 2009 Season.

I have met with Seth Roberts (PHS A.D.) several times over the summer, and he has given me no indication that we will have a P.U.S.D./P.H.S. sponsored team.

I would like to begin optional practices this week.
I will be holding practice W/Th/Fri, Aug. 6,7,8 from 7:30a-9:30a.

We will not swim Monday or Tuesday, Aug. 10,11.

We will begin afternoon practices, Wednesday Aug. 12.
Afterschool practices will run from 3:50-5:30.

Beginning on Monday, Aug. 24, practices will run:
Mondays, 4:45-6:30 and Tuesday-Friday, 3:50-5:30.

Physical clearance forms, permission to participate forms, drug testing policies, athletic handbook forms will be available at the pool beginning Monday, August 10. All forms will need to be picked up, filled out and turned in by Friday, August 15.

Our parent meeting is tentatively scheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 19 at 5:30.
This meeting is to discuss the following items:
1. Practice schedules and expected attendance
2. Meet schedules, expected attendance and transportation to away meets
3. Team suit orders

If you have questions, please feel free to contact me at: piranhacoach@hotmail.com

Please forward this info on to any other individuals who have expressed interest in participating with the PHS Swim Team for the 2009 season.

Thanks,
Brian Wilson

Swimmers and Families:

It has been pointed out that the e-mail I sent out earlier may have suggested that we will not be swimming. In my original message the statement "I have met with Seth Roberts (PHS A.D.) several times over the summer, and he has given me no indication that we will have a P.U.S.D./P.H.S. sponsored team," should have read that Coach Roberts has given me no indication that we will not have a team.

Again, I am moving forward with plans to swim.

The scheduled practice times are on the message that I sent previously.

I apologize for any misunderstanding.

Stroke and Turn Clinic  1130
08-25-2009 01:32 AM ET (US)
The Piranhas will be hosting a Stroke and Turn Clinic on Monday, Sept. 30th at 6:00pm at Chico Country Day School, room #23. Please consider becoming an official, as we are down to two officials for the team.

In order to become a fully carded official you must attend one clinic, complete 6 training sessions and complete an online (open book) test. If you attend the clinic this fall it will give you ample opportunity to complete all of your requirements before the summer season begins.

Thanks!

Correction: The date for the clinic is WEDNESDAY, Sept. 30th, not Monday as previously stated.

Do we sign up for the clinic or just show up? I can go depending on work schedules.

Michelle~ You can just show up. The cost for an official's card is somewhere around $50 so you will want to bring your check book but there is no pre-registration. Thanks for considering this! If you have any questions feel free to call us--John has been an official for the past few years so he can answer any questions you have. 872-2406

Swim Families~

We are beginning our fall fundraiser tomorrow: Glow Candles. These candles are made in the USA of soy. They are a clean-burning, long-lasting, highly-scented candle that will burn for 70 hours. They can also be used as a skin softener. They sell for $13.00 and Piranhas earn 50% per candle ($6.50 each). A great idea for Christmas gifts, teacher thank yous or just to keep your house smelling yummy! Each swimmer in the water this fall is asked to sell a minimum of 12 candles in order to meet his/her fundraising commitment of $75.00. I will be passing out the catalog--with 20 options like Cucumber Melon and Piece of Cake--tomorrow at practice. The sale will run until Sept. 30th and the candles will arrive in mid-October. Money is due at the time an order is placed and checks should be made payable to Paradise Piranhas Swim Team (PPST). (This will be the only fundraiser we will be holding this fall.)

Additionally I will be handing out copies of the Athlete Code of Conduct and the Parent Code of Conduct that was approved by the general membership in August. Please sign and return these as soon as possible.

Finally, we are planning for the winter and are trying to get a grasp on athletes interested in swimming November-April. If you are interested in swimming during that period please email me at rochellegarrett@hotmail.com and list the months you would be interested in swimming. I will also be sending home an interest survey with anyone currently in the water. So look for a packet to come home with your swimmer tomorrow, Thursday or Friday.

Thanks!

One more thing: If you swam this summer and were not able to complete your fundraising commitment, you can meet that obligation by selling candles. Email me and I will get you a form. Much better than having to write that $75.00 check!!

Swim Meet Info:
Sorry gang....looks like the Penguin Meet filled up faster than expected. We have missed the opportunity to sign up, and the meet is closed.
The Kling family emailed me confirmation that the Davis Meet is still open and excepting entries.
If you would like to get to a meet this September, it looks like Davis is the one.
Please enter ASAP and forward confirmation to piranhacoach@hotmail.com

Yikes! Davis is closed now, too, except for the Friday night events. Roseville's Spooktacular is still open but you will need to have a new USA card to compete in October.

Congrats to our swimmers who participated in the Whiskeytown Open Water Swim this weekend.
-Trent Garrett swam the open water 500y swim in approx 7:40
-Andrew Hasek swam the open water mile in approx 26 minutes, (finishing 2nd in his age group, and 8th overall)
-Sabrina Johnston swam the open water two-mile course in approx 55 minutes
This was a great event!! I encourage all of you to start thinking about open water swimming as another event in your swim careers.

Reminder: No practice on Wednesday, Sept. 16. I will be at a meet with the high school team.

We need to make a decision a.s.a.p. on winter swim. We must secure pool space in advance. If you have interest in participating during the months of November-April, you need to let us know now.

USA/SN Registration cards will be expiring. Swimmers who plan to swim after September will need to purchase new cards. This can be done on-line at swimconnection.com

We are about half way through with our GLOW candle fundraiser. I hope you are all doing well with this. If you have any questions please contact me and I will do my best to answer them.

Remember, to meet the $75 fundraising commitment for fall you need to sell 12 candles. Orders are due no later than September 30 and we will have the product in mid-October.

Thanks!

Is anyone interested in ordering a team parka? If we order by Oct. 15 they will be here before Christmas. Parkas cost $85.95 + 8.15 tax + $10 shipping = $103.10. There are extra charges if you want PARA on the back ($6.40); your name on the front ($5.00); or 6" longer length ($10.00). Let me know if you are interested. Thanks!
