PHS dual meet v. Shasta High School Wednesday, Sept. 23. Paradise Pool 3:30 start time 3:00 warm ups
Please come out and support the local swim community. We could also use help timing, score keeping, and with setup/teardown.
This high school meet will interupt regular Piranhas practice time. I will run practice immediately following the dual meet. Practice will most likely be shorter than usual, but I would like to be able to offer a workout session if possible.

During the USA Swimming Convention, swim suit legislation was approved, to go into effect on October 1, 2009. There is no list yet from FINA, but certain guidelines will be required when shopping for that new competition suit. All organizations have adopted basically the same rule.
The attached letter appeared on the USA Swimming website today from Bruce Stratton, the Chairman of the Rules and Regulation Committee of USA Swimming.
The new swimsuit requirements are very specific and technical in nature, but the most obvious restrictions/rules are as follows:
1. Swim suits for men may not extend above the navel or below the knee and for women may not cover the neck or extend past the shoulders or below the knee;
2. Material used for swimsuits can be only textile fabric which is defined as materials consisting of natural and/or synthetic, individual and non-consolidated yarns used to constitute a fabric by weaving, knitting, and/or braiding; and
3. No zippers or other fastening devices are allowed except for a waist tie on a brief or jammer.
Keep in mind when Christmas shopping!

We are winding down our GLOW candle sale this week. Please bring your sale form to the pool on WEDNESDAY. Remember, you need to have sold at least 12 candles to meet your $75 fundraising commitment. Please total up your sale sheet and be sure that your cash/check amount matches. As soon as I have all of the forms collected I will send the order in to be processed. If you cannot make it to the pool on Wednesday, it is VERY IMPORTANT that you contact me and make arrangements to get your sale sheets to me so that our order is not delayed.
Thanks!

The Piranhas are hosting an official's clinic THIS WEDNESDAY, Sept. 30th at 6:00pm in room #23, Chico Country Day School (102 W. 11th Street, Chico). Please bring a check to pay for your official's card when you attend.
We are once again down to two officials for our team so if you are interested in serving in this capacity this would be the first step. Officials must (1) attend a stroke and turn clinic, (2) attend 6 training sessions at meets and (3) take an open book on-line test. All of your hours count for team requirements :)
THANKS!!

Thank you to the families that gave me their candle forms today. Of the 13 families in the water I only received 3 sheets (and one buy out). I will be at the pool again tomorrow (Thursday) but not on Friday, so PLEASE bring your forms to me from 5:30ish to 7:00ish. I am processing the order Friday morning so that our orders are not delayed and will send in the orders that I have at that time. (Remember, this in the only fundraiser we are having this fall.)
Also, we have not received many responses regarding winter swim. It it the Board's hope that we will be able to work a deal with Fit One or Beyond Fitness to swim Nov-April but REALLY need to know how many swimmers we can count on. Email me (rochellegarrett@hotmail.com) or Coach Brian Piranhacoach@hotmail.com) to tell us if you are interested in swimming.
Thanks!

PHS Swim Team is scheduled to host a dual meet against Chico High School on Wednesday. Please come out and support the high school team. I can always use help setting up, timing, scoring, and tearing down. Also, because the weather is expected to be a bit sloppy, I could use an extra EZ-Up or two.
Piranhas will practice immediately following the dual meet.
The next Piranha meet will be the RAD AGO Short Course Sat, Nov 07 - Sun, Nov 08 2009 Shasta College, Redding, CA Please sign up online before this meet reaches its cap.

Piranha Families:
We have secured a location to swim from November until April! Fit One Athletic Club has worked with us to come up with an affordable option so we will be swimming at their HEATED pool!! The cost for winter swimming will be: GROUP 4: $95/month GROUP 3: $85/month Group 2: $70/month. TIMES TO BE ANNOUNCED
Year round USA cards can be purchased online for $71.50 at swimconnection.com or, if you qualify for free lunch, we can submit a hard copy to Sierra Nevada Swimming for around $6.00.
Dues are payable monthly and we ask that each family commit to swimming 3 months minimum over the 6 month period. There will be NO FUNDRAISING commitment for winter! We have raised our swim fees slightly to cover the coaching/pool fees, as with such a small group fundraising becomes difficult.
If you are interested in registering for winter swim, please contact Joan or Rochelle on the pool deck and we will get you started on paperwork. We will continue at the PRPD pool for the remainder of October.
Hope to see you at the pool!!

FYI: On the meet sheet for the Redding meet Nov. 7-8 it lists two local hotels and discounted rates. I checked into both and they were $109.00+tax at the Best Western (includes a hot buffet breakfast) and $89.95+tax at the Red Lion (no breakfast). I talked to Oxford Suites and they were willing to match the $109+tax and that will include breakfast and the ever-popular evening reception. If you are interested in staying there the number is 221-0100 and you should let them know you are with the Paradise Piranhas and were quoted $109.

Our candle order has arrived! I will be at practice this Monday and Wednesday to pass them out. If that does not work for you contact me and we can make arrangements to meet. I am burning one right now--creme brulee--and it smells so yummy!!
