President Bush's Pledge to Wipe Out Inequality, Injustice and Poverty Calls for a Constitutional Amendment On September 15, 2005, President George W. Bush, as Commander-in-Chief, pledged to wipe out inequality, injustice, and poverty in the United States of America ( http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2005/09/20050915-8.html), reaffirming this commitment in remarks he made on Friday, September 16, 2005 during the "National Day of Prayer and Remembrance Service" held at Washington National Cathedral ( http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2005/09/20050916-4.html) and on Saturday, September 17, 2005 during his Presidential Radio Address ( http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2005/09/20050917.html). President Bush's pledge ensures bold action, declaring that all persons in this country are worthy of dignity and respect and will be related to as such, regardless of race, class, or other status. President Bush has made an enduring pledge, a commitment to all persons, sustained beyond the reconstruction of the Gulf Coast following the wake of Hurricane Katrina. It is a pledge that will continue well after his presidency. As such, a Constitutional Amendment asserting, once and for all, that equality and justice are inherent and inalienable rights for all human beings, that we as a nation will no longer tolerate discrimination and unfettered partiality that has led to division and poverty, will most assuredly be called for by President George W. Bush, encouraging citizens of the United States of America to support this courageous effort. This is the true investment the country will make, undoubtedly led by the Commander-in-Chief, following the disaster of Hurricane Katrina, one that cannot be measured in dollars, but will benefit all. It is the heart of this democratic nation, and a pledge worthy of a Constitutional Amendment-THE EQUAL WORTH AMENDMENT. EQUAL WORTH AMENDMENT Section 1. Every person is fundamentally of equal worth and value in self, worthy of dignity and respect solely on the basis of being a member of the human race, unconditionally and unexceptionally. Section 2. Every person has the inherent and inalienable basic right to be related to as an equal worth and value in self by all other persons. Section 3. Every person has the complementary inherent and inalienable basic responsibility to relate to all other persons as of equal worth and value in themselves. Section 4. Those realities that are not persons--such as corporate entities, in and of themselves--are not entitled to the same rights as persons. Section 5. No laws of the United States shall be considered valid if they create or perpetuate a condition in violation of the principles set forth in this article. President George W. Bush and the Congress must hear from the citizens of America, supporting this Constitutional Amendment to achieve the goal pledged by the President to wipe out inequality, injustice, and poverty in these United States. For more information about the Equal Worth Amendment, go to http://www.equalworthamendment.org.

At www.thefreedomcause.com you will find the first person to state their intention to run for the office of President of the United States. He is the first, and perhaps only the one to date, to state his desire.
Could I have something to offer that the usual political candidate does not? Why do I place such an emphasis on a philosophy? Why is how I think more important than what I think? Ask me!!

Has anyone bothered to investigate the criminal record of George Bush? I have it on good authority (a reliable source) that he had and has been arrested and suspected of drunk driving at the least and child molestation at the worst. Why do you all think his daughters are alcoholic as is his wife? Check it out.

Has anyone actually thought about Kerry's accussation, that there is a greater chance of a draft if Bush get's elected? If anything, Kerry is the one who would likely institute a draft. It is naieve to think that Kerry's election would cause other nations to contribute more troops to Iraq. Kerry is the one who believes in the necessity of more troops in Iraq, a fundamental difference from Bush's philosophy of a smaller military presence supported by an Iraqi military. If Kerry doesn't get the ally support, which he won't. Then he is the one who will institute a draft, because he is the one who wants more troops there now!

IF I WERE PRESIDENT !!!
1: I would cut off all military ties with Isreal,They are big boys now and have the best of the best of military technology to support themselves.Let them and Palisine hash things out for themselves after Sharone dies of natural causes or is assasinated.
2:I would pull every American flag and every American human being out of every country flying an Arab flag or has a muslim population INCLUDING SAUDI ARABIA. Reject Bush and Rumsfeld a full pardon.
3:I would let Sudaam Husein free to run his country and wheather or not he mass murders more Shia's and Kurds is THEIR business ... Not ours. Get ouf Afganistan and north African countries that muslims occupy. OUR OCCUPATION IS NOT WANTED !!! Saudi Arabia has Bush by the short hairs and he is taking it hook line and sinker !!! What a retard... His home state of Texas has no oil shortage and like a former president Johnson a war monger himself got us in the Viet Nam war and this Texan has us in another.
I promise you John Kerry will be our next president and God , Allah and the big rock in central Africa help him. My God is the Great Spirit mother earth itself.
I am Native American Indian and Retired Army Ranger who was disabled and fought in Panama and Somolia where I got shot up trying to rescue stranded Delta and Rangers in Mogadishu.
I have $100,000 worth of titanium holding my spine together. I had to learn how to walk but cant bend over to tie my shoes. putting on underware is dangerous.I have to do it by my bed so when my big toe gets caught I fall on my bed.
I never made desert storm because I was still recovering from the Panama injuries. It was loss of hearing and obstruction of eyesight. I did get to Saudi that year when the scuds were dropping in for an occasional visit.
The United States has too many of its own problems to solve rather than interfere in other countries affairs. At first I was gung ho about the invasion because I admired Colin Powell and when he said that there was weapons of mass destruction that US intelligence detected by sattelite. I took him for his word. US Intellegance... Its more like us UN-INTELLEGANCE. The only WMD are mass graves of the poor Shia's and Kurds. I am sorry but I would pull out our troops our flags and let the Fedayeen kill who ever they want. Al-Qaida kill who they want. just as long as there not our soldiers. And I am Comepletely embarssed and totally ashamed of what American Gi's did at the prison I was trained with pride and integrity and always respected who was shooting back at me. I am ashamed of my government,I am ashamed at our own GI's and ashamed to be an American at the same time BUT ! I am proud to be a Native American and Proud to be an Army Ranger. I am Proud that the Native American Wind Talkers helped us save the world in WWII. I Know all Muslims aren't all terrorists but after a couple Bush administrations I will never dare visit Egypt,Morroco,Isreal or even board a commercial airline period. I have always wanted to visit Egypt and the Sudan. I hope John Kerry will fix all this... God help him. As far as Osama Bin Laden goes I feel even if we pull all of our military occupation goes in Islamic countries I know he hates Americans so bad that even if we do pull the americans out of all the countries he wants them out of he is gonna get bored and find a new excuse to mildly mannerdly recruit poor kids to murder. I can see tourists in India getting tortured as well as journalists and photographers from National Geographic being executed. Saddam will probably flee to Syria or Jordan and change his name to Ahknad or something. AS FAR AS I AM CONCERNED THE CRUSADES ARE OVER !!! NO KNIGHTS OF TEMPLAR!!! LET ISLAM LIVE BUT ONLY AMONGST YOURSELVES .
4: all the atrocities that our own soldiers did WILL have a very, very, very, long stay at Fort Levinworth. All handcuffed together naked ,men and women...
The Iraqi insurgents were killing our Marines and our Christian civilians in ambushes. They do NOT WANT A DEMOCRATIC FREE IRAQ. Cool with me . Lets get out. The important point is the insurgents believe in their cause just like the Americans in the 1700's against the British during the American Revolution. And The Indians didn't have choice we had to adapt the musket did more damge than an arrow. I kind of see the same thing happening in Iraq. The greatest Indian battle was The Little Big Horn. The U.S. Army's 7th cavalry lead by general George Armstrong Custer with Breech loading guns that was us army issue at that time. (Single Shot that loaded in the breech instead of muzzle)against twice as many Souix Indian warriors. Custer thinks bow and arrow againt our rifles.
The Souix Had Winchester and Henry reapeating rifles and didnt have to reload after every shot. That was General Custers last stand. The Indians kicked his butt.
Iraqi insurgents with an RPG or a rigged mine is like a Souix warrior with a Winchester reapeating rifle.
It's not fair and too damn hard to storm peoples houses looking for insurgents with frightened women and children. It makes us look bad and I am a PROUD ASS(retired)ARMY RANGER and never been ashamed of anything I or my fellow Rangers or Delta Force (I have to include Navy Seals) Because of the fellowship ,Bravery, unbelieveable rescues, and all of us watching out for each other.
And I hate seeing our Marine s getting there asses kicked and American civilians that are getting taken hostage and I did see the Nick Berg video. GOD IS GREAT !!! NICK GURGLES.GYGGHG&YOOYGL* That death gurgle was man what a bunch of nice guys. They could at least used a sword or an axe... BUT NOOOOOOOO ,I have to die gurglinng in my own blood feeling every pain nerve till my brain stem is severed.
5: Peace in America No ties with Isreal,or any Arab country. No American occupation of any Arab country. No American tourisim of any Aribic country No Aribics enter America Arabs already here are welcome til Al Qaida strikes and your ALL out of here... ALL 3 generatins back !!! ALL No Arabs on any American flights trying to pass themselves off as Hindus ,jews or otherwise ,you will be detained. Does anyone have a better Idea ? Great Lakes Ottawa Ranger

Citizens Supporting McCaskill for Governor formed on Feb. 7 of 2003 as a Draft Claire effort because of one word Inspiring.
It has never been done, but Claire McCaskill first ran for state representative as a single mom and won a historical first and her whole career has been one of being the first. If you and your family want to do something good and people say you cant do that, call Claire and she will tell you you can. Her experience will inspire the people of Missouri to develop the best Economic system in the world, (we hope it includes technology parks/jobs). She will also inspire people to create the best educational and road system in the nation.
With filling for state office now closed some have suggested since we got Claire to run we pack up, go home and Declare Victory. There has never been a separate citizens' campaign for governor which makes it hard to explain to people. But the founders of our group are not quitters. We are going to November to finish the job. We are hiring staff and will set in motion events to create the largest campaign for Governor in Missouri history.
Co-founder of our group Jeffrey Kenkel who is running for Christian County Commissioner points to: "I want to suggest that you finish what you started a year ago, for you were not only the first to propose this idea, but the first to begin doing something about it. Having started the balling rolling so enthusiastically, you should carry this project through to completion just as gladly, giving whatever you can out of whatever you can of whatever you have. Let your enthusiastic idea at the start be equaled by your realistic action now." (2 Corinthians 8: 10-11)

Sam Texas claims to be from Liberia, but have you looked at his pictures? He doesn't look anything like a Liberian. 'Fayad' is a typical Middle-Eastern name, usually from Lebanon, Syria, or Palestine. If Sam Texas is a Native of Liberia, as he claims every election cycle to be(documented with the Houston Chronicle Archives), then why does he speak fluent Arabic, associate with many Arabs, and read better Arabic than English?. His signature seems to be sort of an Arabic symbol in the beginning. I have done extensive investigation on this moron, I believe he has a hidden agenda.

With the number of deaths and injuries suffered by our troops in Iraq, and our inability to deal with situations that may arise, such as in Hati, because our forces are spread so thin, how long after Bush gets re-elected do you think it will be before he reinstates the draft. If he continues on his current path, he will have no choice. I have no doubt that the number of reserves who will leave as soon as they get the opportunity will be high. Eighteen year olds, by law already have to register. Something to think about, before you pull that lever in the voting booth.
On another topic. I seem to remember Congress passing a hate crimes law. Wouldn't passing a law forbidding gay marriage be considered a hate crime. Another thing to think about before you pull that lever.

Citizens Group Confronts Gov. Holden, Asks Him Not to File
A statewide volunteer-based organization that supports State Auditor Claire McCaskill for the upcoming gubernatorial race in Missouri will ask Governor Bob Holden to leave his name off of the ballot for Augusts Democratic primary.
The group, called Citizens Supporting McCaskill for Governor, is holding a press conference at 8:00am Tuesday, February 24th on the steps of the James C. Kirkpatrick State Information Center at 600 W. Main in Jefferson City, MO. The committee members hope to speak to Gov. Holden directly when he appears for the first day of filing for the race.
Citizens Supporting McCaskill for Governor is appreciative of Holdens four years of service, but it contends that Holden is out of touch with Missouri Democrats and cannot provide the leadership to overcome Republican challenges. They site the loss of the Missouri legislature to the Republicans two years ago and last summers override of several key vetoes from Holden which were only possible when Democratic legislators joined the Republicans.
Recent polls in the Kansas City Star and the St. Louis Post-Dispatch have shown State Auditor McCaskill to compare very favorably against Holden. The committee hopes to avoid a costly battle between Democrats so that McCaskill can gear up to defeat the Republican challenger, Secretary of State Matt Blunt.
Citizens Supporting McCaskill for Governor is registered with the Missouri Ethics Commission as a continuing committee. It is not affiliated with McCaskills official candidates committee.

This country is being over-run by illegals! Taxpayers are picking up the tab for medical care, education, law enforcement, prisons, and even home-loans for illegal immigrants, to the tune of billions and billions of dollars. While people like Tom Daschele, John Kerry, John Edwards, and Hilary Clinton vote against what over 80% of Americans born in this country do not want. More immigration! Vote them out! You must be represented. Demand reform from your elected officials now! Visit: http://www.fairus.org/

Saddam Hussein was actually captured and in the custody of the USA in December 2002. This was kept from the public so that George and his cronies could have a war and get richer. The announcement of Saddams capture was kept secret until could be used for political advantage. A mock capture was made in late 2003 so that George W could reap the political credits. This is true. Some military people kno all about it.

One of the most wonderful things that I hope happens in the coming new year is to have the Fairness Doctrine put back in place as the standard for radio broadcasting. When the doctrine's renewal was vetoed by Reagan in 1987, American society was affected in a negative way. Critical thinking and debate was replaced by one-point-of view political monologues. Hosts no longer allowed diverse opinions to be aired. Only opinions condoned by the hosts became the standard for fairness. No longer did one hear moderate or liberal views -- but only extreme conservative (usually economic) views. If a person with a different point-of-view was allowed to talk to the host, usually it was to humiliate and make fun of the caller in order to score points for the host (and his political philosophy). Instead of listening to callers and letting them speak their minds, talk radio after 1987 became centered around advancing the political views of the extremely conservative hosts and their advertisers. The hosts became apologists for the Republican Party, fighting to defeat Democrats and the Democratic Party at ever turn. (Why, I ask you, should the public airwaves be used for the purposes of one political party without allowing the other political party to have equal time in promoting and expressing its views?)
The doctrine needs to be reinstated because the airwaves are owned by the American people, not a select group of media elites and advertisers. Furthermore, the doctrine needs to be reinstated so that diverse topics once again are discused and debated. The way radio operates today does not benefit all of the American people. Radio that operates without the Fairness Doctrine is radio that does not serve the public interest. The airwaves are for all of us - not a small group of partisans. Lets hope radio changes for the better in 2004. Lets hope the Fairness Doctrine again becomes the law of the land!

October 13, 2003 | Bush Tried to Take Funds from Military School Kids to Pay for Iraqi-Afghan Policies
President Bush attempted to slash money from the program that pays to educate the children of military men and women even while saying, "Our men and women in uniform give America their best and we owe them our support."1
At the same time the President lauded the "great courage"2 of the soldiers he sent to Iraq, he requested major cuts in the Impact Aid3 program that provides funds for the schooling of the 900,0004 children of military families. Bush tried to take $172 million from Impact Aid5 and shortchange its funding by $583 million under the No Child Left Behind Act. The cutbacks would have directly affected children of troops currently deployed in Iraq.6
The cutbacks were part of Bush's budgetary effort to find $87 billion for his policies in Iraq and Afghanistan, which include $40 million for school programs to benefit Iraqi children.7
Congress defied the President on his cutbacks, however. The House added $223 million to Impact Aid, and the Senate slightly less. Apparently, Bush will accept the funding rather than resort to a veto.

In other words, the federal government acts as the local taxpayer through funding the Impact Aid program. 4. Another way of putting it "partisanly" is: ask not what the campaign can do for you, but what you can do for the campaign. http://www.outlandishjosh.com/politics/dean/Dean is the participation candidate. He's not the only one to talk about it, but he's the one who's putting the theory into practice.

Jon,
We're working on this. Right now Dean's the one driving the enthusiasm and so his campaign is the focus, but you're right that the watch-word is participation. Personally, I'd be thrilled if W ran a real grassroots campaign; the closer people get to something, the harder it is not to smell the BS.
Everything we do will be open, usable by any party, any candidate. I may not offer tech support to the Edwards campaign, but they're welcome to my source code. Dean's the logical focus now because just "building democracy" doesn't have the urgency to get it done. Necessity and invention go hand in hand.
From a partisan perspective, network tools and social software don't mean anything if you don't have the people to make the network live. That's why I think (this cycle) Dean will benefit the most from this movement and I'm not worried if others jump on the bandwaggon.

uh...this will sound like utter cynicism, but we can't "vote him out of there" - we didn't vote this administration in, and we can't vote them out. although bush is no hitler, certainly not - not even close (in that hitler really and truely was übercharismatic, and, well, bush jr. is ain't) - but his ADMINISTRATION is potentially similar to the NAZI party - especially in the early days. according to shirer, long before the nazi party was in power, long before there was even a mass pro-nazi movement, the nazi inner circle had set up a fully-functioning national government, complete with ambassadors in foriegn countries. they set up a system as though they were in power ALREADY. and, the current administration is made up of folks who have been in government roles for many years - some of them in previous administrations. they certainly know how to run their ship and they know how to build their plans effectively. note that florida has already shifted to computer voting machines - machines that apparently have been tested and found to be both open to fraudulent manipulation as well as less accurate than the previous analog systems. there will be no losing the next "election" - it is really inconceivable. remember that hitler and the nazi's were not deposed by the germans - it took a mighty alliance of sworn enemies (england/us and the soviets) to bring down the germans. so don't count on your fellow citizens to do anything helpful - it may take the entire world to get these guys to stop their current conquest.

His focus today has to be on the primaries, and he's got a shot at a Texas primary win. One of the problem with presidential races is that strategic requirements don't reward balanced organization, you have to focus more on states you think you can win, and on areas where votes are concentrated (i.e. urban areas). One reason Bush took almost all of rural America is that Gore wasn't speaking to those folks, literally or conceptually.
A strength of the nodal or network approach to organizing is that you can theoretically reach populations that are outside the limits that traditional campaign strategies would impose. A challenge, though, is that you have less control over your message and you have to think how to facilitate the transmission of a comprehension of your points, if you're dropping them into a distributed system. I.e. you need to support a transmission of your concepts and talking points by those who understand to those who are capable of understanding.
This won't happen, incidentally, if you're organizing via meetup, unless you figure out how to grow the network of those evolving groups outside the limited meetup communications framework.

I went to the Dean rally last night, mostly as a source of free entertainment, and I walked away a little bewildered. I haven't been to a lot of political rallies, but I was disappointed with the lack of political discourse. I was hoping to find out where Dean stood on issues like the WTO, capital punishmen, and law enforcement's expanding powers, but he mostly dissed the war (which I had no argument) and Bush' tax cut, rather than float ideas about what he would do as an executive. He spent a lot of time talking about European-style health care, which struck me as more of a legislative, rather than executive issue. I wish there was a candidate that addressed issues that liberal-left twenty-somethings like me cared about, but Dean seems a big improvement over creeps like Lieberman, et al. OTOH, he seems a little like this year's Jerry Brown. The rally struck me as a little absurd, as well. I suppose Dean would want Texas' convention delegates to win the Democratic nomination, but I don't think any Democrat has a snowball's chance in hell beating Bush for the electoral college votes here. The organizers put a strong emphasis on raising funds; when I left they said they had raised $13K from the 3,200 people at the plaza. I wondered if the Dean campaign was, in a sense, colonizing Texas, writing it off politically, but making an effort here to raise funds for campaigns in other states. - Chris McConnell

The following is a revision of my response in the discussion appended to the last blog item posted. I thought I should post it here, too, as a follow-up. I was reading Rise and Fall of the Third Reich last night and found, in Shirer's intro, this statement: "Adoph Hitler is probably the last of the great adenturer-conquerors....the curtain was rung down on that phase of history, at least, by the sudden invention of the hydrogen bomb...." What struck me then was the real comparison (of the New American Century) with Hitler's Nazi party, which is in a drive for domination based on a perception that they were right for the world. World domination, for them, was destiny. Bush is no Hitler, but he doesn't have to be. And in this I'm agreeing with Dana, when he says Today we face nothing less than the Germans faced in the 1930s... In many ways Bush and the New American Century guys are not like the Nazis, so that comparison might seem odious to some - but in one essential way they are like the Nazis, they have that arrogance, that assumption that they are right for the world, and if the world chooses otherwise (as in the 2000 elections), that is the world's mistake. (I mentioned this post to my wife, and she wondered about my assumption that Bush and friends are driven by this elitist sense of the superiority of their intentions, or by mere greed. I think we're mistaken if we assume the latter. If they were mere crooks, if they were merely unprincipled, they would not present the same problem. However they are proponents of an anti-democratic ideology, and they are propelled by an ideological force to be reckoned with. If we oppose them on the basis that they're representatives of the greedy rich, and nothing more, we will lose.) Last night I saw a report on the Dean rally where they emphasized how Dean is using the Internet to establish grassroots support, and it sounded quite like the notes I sent to Jock Gill when he first met with the Dean people. That was good to hear. I have to stress, though, that the real importance of nodal politics is not in successful support for specific candidates, but in the successful construction of a more democratic model, with increased participation and increased understanding of the process and the issues. We get there by building a network, many connections and many nodes, and distributing quality information over that network, ensuring that there is at every node someone who can facilitate understanding of the messages we're distributing. The Meetups are not enough if we don't find a way to network those organizations effectively and if we don't reach into communities not served by Meetup. I suppose if I have an issue with the Dean campaign, it's because I don't think they're doing enough. We should be cultivating leaders and giving them talking points, and the understanding that works behind the talking points, so that they can build a following that asks the right questions, and asks those questions because they understand why the questions are important. I'm afraid that presidential politics is too targeted on the specific end to see the value of the means. Let the Dean people prove that I'm wrong about that... I'd like to see them expand to a more sophisticated use of "nodal politics." I can support that in a big way.

I agree with Rick on this one.
Most often, I'd agree with Jon. The differences between the parties seem minimal. We became the 50-50 nation because small differences were magnified into huge chasms, and no one felt they could care anymore.
But in the last few years, we have been forced to face something different.
Today we face nothing less than the Germans faced in the 1930s, with one possible difference. We may (if we can fix the voting machines) have a chance to un-elect him.
I'm not going far at all with that, I don't think. This bastard was not elected -- Al Gore was. This bastard staged a coup, one plotted over 30 years by his party, and 40 years by a small collection of billionaire-run foundations. This bastard lied us into war, turned our economy into a zero-sum game, and gave it all away to a small number of crooks. (Do you have any conception of how big a tax cut Ken Lay got in this last tax bill?) The list goes on-and-on.
Save us all from arrogant men, and all the causes they're for. (Yes, Jon, you won't be righteous again, you're not that sure anymore.)
But evil succeeds when good men do nothing.
We may have one chance to undo this, and redress the balance. If we don't succeed, we will get no second chance.
Jon, I don't care who you support in the primaries. But you had better vote this time as though your life depends on it. Because this time, for the first time in your lifetime, it really, honestly does.

Jon (and others) - I'm not sure I understand: it's not worth working on behalf of the candidate you believe in because the others you believe in have come up short? If the last election taught anything, it's this: one vote makes a difference. And people who are active can influence dozens, if not hundreds of votes - and that's before they become part of a campaign and leverage everyone's efforts. The very reason that Governor Dean's campaign is so invigorating is that it's explicitly built on this premise. Taking back the country requires that we commit to influencing every vote. You're angry? Do something about it. The issues you care about will be that much harder to influence if the leadership isn't changed. If nothing else, that's about the only "trickle down" theory worth anything: change in this country trickles down. Fix the top - and we'll see the impact trickle down throughout the country - down to which schools get funding, which families get healthcare, and which soldiers get sent into which battles. Tip said it's all local, and he's right. Finally, you said that presidential politics are "disgustingly partisan and horribly unsatisfying." Well, I got involved in the Dean campaign last fall and every day has made me feel better and more optimistic about what we're capable of. Sorry we won't have your commitment, but rest assured there are tens of thousands (and we'll soon be several hundred thousand strong) of committed volunteers who are taking the country back - one vote and one day at a time. It feels good. -- Rick Klau

Bummer, my hope was, with your nodal politics help we would prove a point: Don't mess with us anymore, we have the means to organize, and we do. 32,000 people going to MeetUps all over the country already. Let's make that millions and politics as usual will have to change if they want to "sustain" their wins.
