Slate has a new article "Strom's Skeleton" at http://slate.msn.com/id/2085087/ which could lead one not only to say "good riddance", but "long overdue".

"Good riddance" is never polite when applied to a person, but I agree that it is considerably less offensive if used on one's departure from politics rather than one's departure from life. Yes, it is a reflection of the way our society views death.

I'm curious - would you have objected to an editorial entitled "Good Riddance" when Thurmond left the Senate? I ask that not as an accusation of inconsistency, but as a reflection on the way our society views death.
