/2363 "Revised Maintenance Selection System". It is the current testing process used to obtain a rating (test score) in maintenance. See Handbook EL-304, which may be accessed through the APWU web site at http://www.apwu.org/dept/ind-rel/iruspshbks.asp#EL-Series

Uk Wildcat Fan, http://www.quicktopic.com/19/H/n5SMB3A72nM/m1540 Postalvet and I have been doing question and answer sessions for a few months now. I did not know what you were talking about because I remember just posting it. Seems to be on a different message board. A simple misunderstanding. By the way, I am a she.

/2359 I did read all of his posts. Not once did he state that he had applied for an In-service Register and passed the entire RMSS process. You cannot just "bid" on maintenance jobs from outside maintenance. You have to be placed on the In-service Promotion Eligibility Register. If there are any openings in maintenance they are filled by posting a Notice of Intent. That notice will have any schools required for successful promotion. There may be eReassign opportunities that may have the minimum requirements of just passed the exam.

/2357 UK Wildcat fan, I have passed 955 in ET(10), MPE(9), maintenance mechanic(7), BEM(9), and building maintenance custodian (5). My interview results for all above areas were "eligible". I have applied for some custodian openings at another facility through ereasign opportunities. I figure that it is only a matter of time before something else (MPE) pops up if I am lucky enough to land one of the custodian positions. This makes me feel so much safer being in-craft before leveling up.

/2356 You cannot just bid on a MPE/ET job in maintenance. You have to have already passed the RMSS exam process. That consists of the 955 exam and a structured interview. You can only apply for the exam if there has been an Inservice Exam notice or an Entrance Exam notice. Theses notices are only open when an office is seeking to hire people from outside the installations maintenance department.

Thanks "excessed" /2355 I finished a associates in industrial maintenance with straight "a"s just last May. I have to study double the amount then anyone else. Just slower to get it (especially hands on, lab). I am going for custodian but what you said just makes me feel less stressed about the whole thing. I am really good with the books but the bugs would probably get me. Better safe than sorry.

the classes in Ok are easy enought to pass. I have been there 10-15 times for various MPE/ET courses. I have only seen one guy fail, that wanted to pass. There have been a few that said they were forced to go there and failed on purpose. The guy that failed just wasn't able to keep up in the book and find the bugs. He was a good guy who tried, but had some problems understanding the books. I think if you have a little sense, then you can pass the courses, but there's nothing wrong with taking the sure thing and going as a custodian. Whatever it takes get into maintenance. once your in, then you can go from there....good luck Edited 04-19-2013 09:19 PM

Thank you so much postalvet. Understand the process a lot better thanks to you. It is scary that someone could fail MPE training in Olkahoma three times. It must not be as easy as they are telling me. I did not really believe that it was easy but I sort of thought that if I went back to my room and studied some more that I might pass. I am bidding on the custodian positions now and I hope that I can land one. They ask you to qualify on 955 for custodian so I might have a chance since not everyone took 955. Thanks again.

take the custodian position, this way you will be in maintenance and subject to different rules. once in maintenance you will be given the opportunity to take all maintenance tests and then when promoted if you do not pass you will go back to custodian and can try again. I know a person (not me) who started this way moved to maintenance mechanic, then to MPE failed Oklahoma three times before officially promoted. took four years. each time you try you are moved to the next level as an un-assigned person and get the pay and days off until your pass or fail Oklahoma.
read this for more; http://www.apwu.org/dept/ind-rel/USPS_hbks...11%20(411%20KB).pdf
the reason no one can tell you what class you take is because it depends on a lot of things going on at the plant you will work at. In San Diego when an MPE gets promoted management looks at all the other MPEs and sees what they are qualified on and what the needs are and then send new people to schools that others do not have. also in San Diego you take IES (industrial electrical service) first and then have to qualify on three classes, but because you would be in maintenance management only has one year to send you to all the classes or you are automatically qualified.

/2349-2351 An example: When there is a clerk bid job it will say something like you have to pass scheme or window....it will tell you what is expected so you can make a better decision. These MPE, ET, BEM, and custodian bid jobs just say that you have to qualify on Exam 955 and have an acceptable driving record based on EL-312, Exhibit 516.4......Thats it! They should put what courses you are expected to pass in Oklahoma to keep the bid. I am probably making too much of a big deal about it. I did not feel like this when bidding on clerk jobs because there were no surprises later.
