While I understand the need for copyright law and acknowlege the right of the author to make a living off of their ideas and creations, I also believe that such work eventually has to become part of the public domaain. If not it can (and will) be lost to the future and the culture will be the poorer for that loss.
There are billions of us on this planet and most ideas and words, no matter how insightful or creative depend on the ideas and work of others. Most original work is not really original but derivitive in some manner or another. If everyone holds their creative expressions close to their pocketbook and refuse to consider the need to enrich the community's cultural discourse, their futuree will be impoverished by such selfish shortsighted greediness.
I sure hope every blogger you reads your site will not only sign on to the petition but push it at their site too. When I went to look there were less than 5,000 signatures and we need hundreds of thousands to have any impact on Congress.
