nothing can pry my Handspring Visor Platinum out of my hands.
#1 reason: Batteries I can replace.
Can't do it with Palms, can't do it with new HandSprings, can't do it with my iPod....

Plus I love graphiti and the calendar app. The reminder beeps, and the software I have that lets me sync files with BBEdit.

With the SpringBoard slot I can upgrade to what ever features I want as well. Just wish it would run 5.0 ....

I still use my Newton and wish that Apple would sell the technology to someone who would update the softwate a little and put out new hardware. The newton still rules and still has a lot of potential. It is amazing how well ithas kept up with the Palm with only shareware developer support.

Long live the newton

Thanks for the comment, Mike. I think you help draw the dividing line between those who simply want non-interactive access to their data while away from the office or home and those who want to create data or manipulate data while away from their normal computer setup. I carry my 12-inch PowerBook G4 around a lot as well, but I don't want to have to open up the laptop every time I want to add someone's address to my portable data or to take a note about the starting mileage for a road trip I am about to start...these sorts of simple things cry out for actual interactive access to data rather than one-way data like on an iPod. It is the one-way nature of the iPod and its high cost that have kept me from ever seriously considering buying one. The T68i is the same way. Data goes in from the computer, but I wouldn't even consider trying to enter any real amount of data through the keypad on a mobile phone.

Maybe the reason this kind of device has not been developed in an attractive package is because most people demand little from their data. I am sure it relates to the fact that most people don't create but rather consume data.

I rarely use my Visor Prism any more, now that I have both an iPod & a Sony Ericsson T68i. Although there are a few games I like on the Visor, when I travel with it, it's usually to look up a contact or check my schedule, and I can do both nicely on either the iPod or the phone. Since I usually have my powerbook with me, I can always enter the data on the powerbook and sync it with both devices.

As with you I still use my handspring, but I keep looking at the -- dare I say it -- CE based handhelds and find them tempting.
