Re Kalifornia: No relation to the movie. I had and was using the title for quite some time; it was integral to the story, to the extent that it's the name of a central character. The title was floating around and they either snatched it because they liked the look of it, or it was Steam Engine Time. Unfortunately (or not, if Cory is reading this), you can't copyright a title, therefore there wasn't really much I could do when they took and used it for the film. I heard tell later that some people on the crew thought they actually were adapting my book, despite it bearing no similarities to the movie except the title. (Which had nothing to do with the movie (which I liked a lot) as far as I could tell.) I benefited to the extent that my next book, The Orchid Eater, which was a serial killer thriller, got to bear the words "By the author of Kalifornia" on the jacket. Kalifornia is the story of a wired family of celebrities whose every moment is (or was) broadcast continuously to their fans...they're has-beens when the story begins. It came out about the same time as the first issue of Wired.

I found Dvorak's tenure on the Guestbar fascinating, if only because it reveals how much work his editors do.

High time. The previous guest blogger was frankly a waste of space on the page.

just scroll down to the remains of Dvorak's guest blog. Notice that the black and white picture of the constipated man. That's J Edgar. Right below, are "his"...

"What's the word here, John?"

"Bitchtits, jerwin,"

"Thanks"

"his" bitchtits." Notice how the colour has completely drained out of his face, and into his bosom."

Not that I'm into that sort of thing, but can we get a

Brings new meaning to the old adage, "Make like a Hoover on the wingwang."

A reminder for Marc (or whoever formats his missives). Please include a "Discuss" link in your posts. John Dvorak didn't always do this, and however wonderfully weird his blog posts were, they suffered from this omission.

Me thinks that would be just the way J. Edgar would like to be remembered...
