I've been using this thing called ThermaPAK for my 15" PB. Found it at www.thermapak.com. It apparently absorbs the heat for a while instead of suffocating the PB. And the neat thing is that its sewn into a laptop sleeve.

I heard something at the recent Apple Store opening in Boca Raton, FL from a bunch of guys, that calibrating the battery helps. If they meant going through the wait 'til it goes to sleep and then give it a full charge... well it might have but it still gets pretty hot.

It's my girlfriends laptop I must add, I just recently got her to switch over, but to be honest I'll sacrifice my warm G3 iBook for her way fast "hot" 12" G4 anyday (I'll just wear some thick pants ;o)

Mike, mine keeps oscilating between 139 and 147. The temperature goes up when I have NetNewsWire grabbing my news, for instance.

I am just glad to run into this temperature monitor tool. It reminds me of the days I ran my PowerBook 3400c with Jeremy's Power Tools (I think that is what it was called) - the control strip module that offered temp readings, more battery info and much more...

Mine is cooling down quickly. About 2 minutes ago it was at 144.7, and after the fan turned on it's now down to 139.8.

I bought a 12" PB just before I went away for the summer because I needed to work and couldn't take my iMac with me. It DOES get hot but it's still a fabulously classy machine. I wouldn't knock it for performance. The keyboard is so receptive.

I find the heat down the left hand side a bit much at time but I just take a break and let the machine cool down.

I just got my PB 12" and I love it. The heat thing is very like the heat issues my old iBook used to get. The only difference is that the metal skin on the new PB tends to conduct heat to your body a bit quicker once you start sweating.

Best solution: levenger makes this little thin plywood lap desk. that 1/4# of plywood between the PB and my lap makes all the difference in the world...
