What to do tonite?

flex, schottenring (u2/u4) and then go down to the "river" which is actually the Donau canal. Just follow the graffiti or go to where it is loudest. Best musik in vienna - if geek or blogger

Any suggestions on good new media events in the city in the next week? Links to venues would be great. Underground events are good too. Thanks!

Thanks Martin and Thomas,

I downloaded the map of hotspot and overlayed it onto a physical map of Vienna. Turns out most of the spots cluster. Then I went those places to find the hotspots. Found a few, all private. Most interesting was to note the city-space around the hotspots. Unis, shopping streets, various business centers mark the spots.

In any case, FYI for those who have lots of data to download. Find a good internet cafe, the hotspots (and Metronet) are too slow. I suggest the place I'm writing from now:

Just in case you're lost for ideas on what to do while you're in Vienna, I've compiled a list of things to do and places to eat. It's available on my website at http://www.aardvark.at/vienna.html

You'll also find a link to my site with public transport information there.

Hi Ethan,
try this http://www.metronet.at/en/services/. You have to pay in advance and then find a place. I know that the Cafe Landtmann at the Ringstrasse right across the Burgtheater is a hotspot.

I just arrived in Vienna, and would like to connect my own laptop to the Internet, from a cafe. Phils link to the list of Internet cafes was helpful. But I want to sip coffee under a wireless sky. Does anyone have a list or knowledge of hotspots in Vienna?

Scott, Martin, Bori, thanks very much for your help! I think I'll go for the tourist ticket. (Where can I get it?)

The train I want to take departs at 6:10 from Budapest:

http://www.elvira.hu/elvira.dll/uf?i=budap...isz=1&x=102&y=32#A2

Now, do I need to make a reservation? I read somewhere that it must be made 4 days in advance. I wouldn't want to have a bad surprise, find they won't let me get on the train, and miss David W.'s talk!

What do you guys think? (And how do I make a reservation?)

Excuse me for being such a neophyte!

Seb

Hello,

www.elvira.hu has the train timetable. If you want to travel from Budapest to Vienna, you should purchase a special 4-day tourist ticket in Budapest for 8000 HUF. It is valid for one Budapest-Vienna-Budapest round trip by train, and for free public transport in Vienna. It is valid for 4 days.

I just double checked my schedule, and realized my flight doesn't arrive Thursday until 9:30pm! So Thursday for the Matrix Reloaded doesn't work for me unless it's a very late showing. :-(

Hi everyone,

here is the schedule of my trip to Vienna:

I will arrive late on Thursday evening (21.50 at the airport) and leave on Wednesday May 28th in the afternoon. Like the other panelists, I will be staying at the "Karolinenhof"-Hotel.

I plan to visit the Museum of Modern Art on Monday or Tuesday. I went there last time I was in Vienna and found it absolutely stunning. If you want to accompany me or meet me on one of the other days, just get in touch!

My contact info is on my blog and if you want to recognise me in Vienna you can see a picture of me on the panelists page on the conference website.

I have made all my travel arrangements definite:

Arrival / Anreise : Thursday May 22nd at 12:30
Departure / Abreise: Sunday May 25th at 17:20

This means: I opt in for going to the Matrix Reloaded on THURSDAY, in stead of Saturday, as I will be there in the afternoon already, in stead of late at night. (Scott: any more takers yet?)

It also means I will have Thursday afternoon and the whole of Sunday to explore Vienna. Anyone is welcome to join.

Regards,

Ton

Hi all,
do you have a hotel to recommend ?

Also is there a map somewhere indicating how to get to Krems from Vienna ?
Is it possible to get there using public transportation ? How long does it take ?
Or is better to chose a hotel in Krems ?

Thanks in advance for your answers.

Hi Scott,

I would like to see the Matrix Reloaded, and would like to join you for a visit to the cinema. I prefer saturday evening, as I will arrive in Vienna late on thursday night. I think I would prefer the original sound, so the English version, but have no problems with German either.

I would like to make one reservation though: if it turns out quite a lot of participants in the conference are staying on at saturday night, I think I would like to make the most of what precious face to face time we have, and not sit 90 minutes beside you in silence :)

Anyway, I think it's a fun idea. Maybe Thomas can give us a clue if it is necessary to make reservations for tickets in advance or if it is early enough to book tickets on let's say friday or even saturday.

Kind regards,
Ton

The Matrix Reloaded opens in Vienna on 22 May. Is anyone else interested in seeing it, either before or after the conference (Thursday or Saturday evening)? There are English theatres in Vienna, but German is OK for me too. Either way, we should probably reserve tickets ahead of time.

Hi Sebastian,

Thanks for the offer to visit Nurnberg. Have been there a few
years ago. I enjoyed the town very much with its medieval
charachter in the Altstadt, and was also impressed by visiting
Zeppelinplatz, a focal point of the dark parts of our combined
European history. However, it will not fit my schedule to come
to Nurnberg on the 20th and then travel with you to Vienna on
the 21st. So, I look forward to seeing you in Vienna!
