They never explain why they are making this change in policy. Is there is a lot of fraud in this area, or are PayPal liable for prosecution if they help a sale that violates some kind of decency law?

Does "adult" or "sexually oriented" material include things like birth control pills, condoms or other contraceptives, "sexual aids," sex toys? Does a nude statue fall into this area, too? Other artworks?

WTF? Just when our culture is beginning to allow us to talk openly about what we all do, eBay and Company decides they don't want to participate in our freer, adult world. If I didn't know where they've stuck their corporate head I'd suggest they get it out of the sand and grow up with the rest of us. Sheeze!

After the third or fourth increase in fees/charges and the second or third reduction in features I decided to drop PayPal. I feel sorry for anyone who's quit their job to make their fortune on eBay -- is there an alternative to this auction-and-payment monster?

I remember reading an article a while back about the credit card companies starting to give online adult retailers really unfavorable rates & terms, because of the high percentage of chargebacks that they got from such purchases ("honey, I swear I never visited that site"). I wonder if that has something to do with it.

I think this latest decision by PayPal is fucking ludicrous. And people say they can't wait for a cashless society! Here is a perfect example of why such an idea is bad. The flow of money and capital should remain between individual parties and be as frictionless as possible. Right now, all online transactions are process by how many - 5? Lets see Visa, MC, AMX, Discover, and... PayPal. Another question is at what point does an item become adult? Does massage oil count? Planet P Blog

Many of you are missing more than one or two points, especially PH DW and Picsman. First: of the $54 million reported Internet frauds last year, eBay is party to the largest percentage ( http://www1.ifccfbi.gov/strategy/wn030409.asp ). Second: PayPal = eBay. Third: despite what many of its customers wrongly believe, PayPal is a credit card merchant, not a credit card company. Fourth: free market = naughtybids.com, epassporte.com (and many more). |
