Since I have seen the word 'couture' before but only gotten it's "meaning" from the context of the sentence, I decided to look it up at good ol' m-w.com. I was somewhat surprised at the defnition:

1) the business of designing, making, and selling fashionable custom-made women's clothing.

In addition the term 'haute couture' has this definition:

: the houses or designers that create exclusive and often trend-setting fashions for women;

I say I am surprised because clearly that is not the menaing when used for this headline or countless others I have read. I say this mainly with regards to the fact that the word 'women' is key in both definitions. I just found it interesting as this would not be the first time that a word has had it's meaning changed by the web, and the word fits quite well if you drop the word women's rom the definition, which I gather has become the case. I wonder how many people actually know this definition. Not a nitpick although subconciously I'm sure it is, I just always find it interesting to learn that a definition is sometimes not the same as how the word is used. -peel

If you're going to an event for which you have to sign an NDA (such as, say, Apple's WWDC conference), you can get this one instead:

peel - i'm not sure it's been changed by the web, but i've always taken 'Couture' to mean any custom made clothing, not necessarily fashionable women's clothing, so it fits nicely in this context. It's the antonym of 'Pret-A-Porter' which is normally off-the-rack clothing ('Pret-A-Porter' meaning 'ready to wear')
