McDude, Thanks for stopping in for a quick visit. It was great to see ya and chit chat for a few minutes. We will have to plan for a time together for some sort of a drink and have a longer chit chat and talk about everyone, you know like the association town cry or as sometimes referred to as the association engineer. Just joshing, but we'll be seeing ya soon and I'll keep ya posted as to what is going on. I forgot to ask how the family members enjoyed their weekend.

ALTON— Grants topped the agenda for Alton’s Board of Selectmen during
its Sept. 8 meeting, as board members were asked to accept and apply for a series of grants through both the state and federal governments. The meeting opened with a brief public hearing on the acceptance of FEMA funds for the replacement of a culvert on Alton Shores Road. Town Administrator
Russell Bailey announced that the board had been asked to accept $4,000 federal grant for underage drinking enforcement in addition to the $5,800 reimbursement from FEMA. With no input from the public, the board voted
unanimously to accept both grants as presented.

LAKE DRAWDOWNS SET TO BEGIN
CONCORD — The New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services announced
today that the annual fall drawdown of the lakes and ponds controlled by dams owned by DES will be initiated according to the schedule below. The Suncook River in Barnstead will begin lowering on Oct. 13 and will be owered 1.5 feet from full. Suncook Lake in Barnstead will be lowered two feet from full beginning on Oct. 3. Sunset Lake in Alton will be lowered seven feet from full beginning on Oct. 13. The depth of drawdown listed above is not from the current level, but is from the normal full pond evel. Since the hydrologic conditions and recreational uses of these water bodies vary, the degree and date of the start of drawdown for each lake
vary and could be affected by the amount of rainfall during the period. In addition, the actual date at which the drawdown will begin could vary by a few days based on operational constraints. However, at three dams, the
drawdowns will be initiated on a specific Saturday in October to provide recreational opportunities for canoeists and kayakers in the rivers below
these dams. The schedule for these recreational opportunities includes the Suncook River in Barnstead. On Oct. 3, approximately 250 cubic feet per second (cfs) will be released into the Suncook River from the Suncook
Lake Dam in Barnstead. This special release will start at or near 8 a.m. for the dates specified above, and will be reduced to near normal levels by 4 p.m. that same day. DES reminds people that canoeing and kayaking have
inherent risks, and paddling the state’s lakes and rivers is at the paddler’s own risk. Lake drawdowns are conducted each fall to reduce
winter ice damage to shoreline properties and to reduce spring flooding. Drawdowns also give property owners an opportunity to conduct any
necessary repairs to their waterfront property, provided they first secure a permit from the DES Wetlands Bureau at (603) 271-2147.
Generally, lake levels are allowed to return to the normal full pond level in the spring

Just a quick note regarding the Frohock Brook culvert. When we came through today they were cutting out part or all of the foundation they put in last week and hauling it away in 10 wheelers. I'm not sure if it was just part or all of it. Will check it out later in the weekend.

Hi Bill. Thats what I thought may have happened, but they only removed PART of the pouring not the whole thing and it was all done on both sides with the same pouring (1 truck worth of pouring). There was a large crew there working yesterday re-framing the whole new addition to the top of the footing that was poured 2 weeks ago (in the original pouring). When I looked at it yesterday after noon it appeard that they just cut enough to level one side to match the other.

Hi all,
Went to check out the new culvert this morning and the road was closed, but the culvert was 100% put in and they were taking down the water barrier and bringing up the road grade to meet both sides. Bill I must have spoken to the same person you did as this one said that it was a bad pour and that was the reason for the removal, but then again I spoke to a person who appeared to be some sort of Supervisor as he was giving direction and driving one of the excavators and he said the the form people mis read the draws and poured one side incorrectly and that they had to cut it out and remake the keying for the pre-cast culverts. Who the hell knows but it is in and it shouldn't be to long before paving. They have full intentions to complete it all before leaving.
It drizzling here right now with no signs of sunshine right at this moment. There are 3 kayaks and one paddle boat out on the lake from down on Beaver Dam road.
