Here is an interesting video on youtube.com on how not to run a union meeting. It is from the APWU Local 197 July 2007 meeting. Look how the President does not let the members do a motion when he does not like it. Here is the link for the video:

I heared yesterday the Iranian contarctor here in Phoenix started out with 30 drivers and is now down to 6. The other drivers say he makes them work split shifts. Run 3 hours then go home, then come back later. I also heard he runs this contract out of his apartment in New Jersey. This is ruining our jobs, culture and country.

Jason/Omaha,
No it is not true, all of it. Yes part of the West side was contracted with more possible to come. We still have just under 200 drivers with plenty of overtime.

Further, the last time they contracted here it cost them 2.2 million and we got the work back. In fact the PO here alone has lost over 35 million in grievances in the last two years alone.

A problem they have is promoting bums from within for supervisors who did not deserve it in the first place, but they surely discover they can en richen themselves by screwing others.

I'm not so much "worried" about making my street time as I am annoyed by having to sit and wait while my LLV decides if it will eventually move. I'm curious by nature and I just want to know if and how this tranny can be repaired quickly. The transmission works fine in all respects except for the delayed shifting problem. If the tranny needs to be replaced then I will ask for that to happen. But I'm not worried about any of this. I'm just curious and I want it fixed. Thanks for worrying about my work ethic. I'll try harder to be a stubborn dullard for the sake of the union in the future. Now back to my original question - Does anybody know the make/model number of the tranny or how to make this thing shift on time?
MvsPedro  179
10-17-2007 12:10 AM ET (US)
What kind of answer is that? Ka Ching. Is that all you Union Bastards think about, MONEY ?? Here this guy is trying to do a good job and get things fixed and you come up with the union motto,"more money for me and screw the post office" I'm sick of these stupid asses in these unions.

rockhead, it is nice of you to worry about making your street time. On the other hand, have you ever heard the expression "cha-ching"? You are not responsible for getting that LLV fixed, other than notifying your supervisor that there is a problem with it. Tell your supervisor, then let him/her worry about it.
rockhead  176
10-15-2007 09:07 PM ET (US)
Sorry if this is in the wrong forum, but here is my situation - The transmission in my LLV is only two months old, but since the day that it was installed it does the following very annoying and time wasting thing - when the gear shift lever is moved into any gear (Drive, Reverse, Low...) the transmission will pause for exactly two whole seconds before it actually shifts into the chosen gear. You might be saying "so what?", but this is a really big deal for me on a hop'n'stop route. I have never had a LLV that did this and it is killing my street time. Does anybody know if there is something that can be done to make the tranny shift on time? Our local VOMA guy is a good guy, but he only does simple parking lot type maintenance and he doesn't really have an answer for me. Also, what is the make and model number of the transmission that is used in the LLV's? Thanks in advance for any help. Rockhead in Yuma, AZ.

Phx Mvs is going downhill fast. We are losing routes, we are hiring only casuals, and the new Supervisor is bringing in his buddies from outside of MVS to make us fail. They have no idea what our business is about.

The Union here is a joke, I'm getting out. Every holiday we, are mandated, to show a high cost of operations and all we do is sit around with no work that needs to be done. This shows a high cost and contractors can do it cheaper.
It's a joke here and steadily going downhill.

I'm a regular-flex employee - I've been on a hold down for a little over a year and love it. I was told that I'm going to be converted to a Regular-Employee status real soon. I was told by the employee who's hold down that I'm on - that he won' t be back until October 2008 (Military Service) I would like to keep this hold down and pass being a regular right now. Is there any way I can do this? That is pass being converted to a Regular Employee and pass it onto the next Regular-Flex Employee. (MVS Craft)(APWU)

Can someone help me understand why this is true. I will use a scenario to try to explain. Transportation categorizes drivers with MVO (Bomber) or TTO (Trailer) status. The facility I work out of has two (2) lists (one for TTO's and one for MVO's).

From what I understand, an employee with less time on the job and currently on a regular trailer run is able to out-bid someone with more time on the job and is on a regular bomber run?...

This makes NO sense.

For example:

Employee A is a bomber driver and has 15 years on the job.

Employee B is a trailer driver and has 2 years on the job.

Both have a CDL-A license, qualifying both for trailer work.

Yet...

Employee B (the current trailer driver with 2 years) gets preference to pick trailer jobs during reorg. over Employee A who has 15 years?????

Is this nationwide or only true in the facility I work at? Either way, I'm not sure why this is the case. Can someone share their thoughts?

Thanks!

Hi all. I'm a PTF for 6 months now, and i love this job. My question is , i was in a small accidence in a 2-ton couple days ago. What happen was while i was pulling out of the loading dock, i scraped the 2-ton next to me, and cracked his passenger side window. My supervisor then immediatly suspended 2-ton license, and i have to go to the Driver's traning unit for safely classes next week.
Does anyone know what the "classes" is consist of?? Safely video?? or something more serious like interview with a traning instructor?? What's the worst that this could happen to me?? Thanks in advance!!

hey guys, anyone know what a level 9 or 10 will upgrade to under the new contract on Feb 2008? on page 22 table 3 the level 6 upgrades to 7, 7 to 8, 8 to 9, it skips 9 and 10, then 11 moves to 10 and 12 to 11. let me make it clearer before i confuse myself.

old>new
3>4
4>5
5>6
6>7
7>8
8>9
11>10
12>11

under this, I would assume that old levels 9,10,and 11 would move to the new 10?????
anyone know??? thanks

Happy New Year to Everyone!

I have installed new forums at PEN for everyone to utilize. I respectfully request that you at least try them out. You may find our new forums here:

http://www.postalemployeenetwork.com/phpforum/index.php

Why new forums? simply because PEN does not own our current forums - they are owned by Quick Topic. This limits our ability to manage the forums - not only that, but we must pay Quick Topic for use of these forums. We own our new forums. Please give them a try. In the near future we may cease using Quick Topic forums altogether.

THANKS!

Craft senioity is the day your transfer is accepted. Postal or service time is the date you were originally hired by the USPS. For instance, I was a carrier for 2 years then transferred to MVS 6 months ago. I kept my company time for my pension, leave, and progressive pay status. Just started as a PTF on the bottom of the list, which is 10 times better than being the highest on the list of any carrier if driving is your thing. hope this helps

I got in Philly 5 months ago with a Class B. I had 2 years as a carrier and 8 years driving experience prior to that with Class B experience. We have mostly 7 tons, maybe where you're looking they're all trailer jobs. With a Class B youd work either Tour 1 or Tour 2 (300 or 1100). Tour 3 is all tractor work. Good luck

I made an inquiry about getting in as an mvo and I was told by a motor vehicle supervisor that "technically" you need a class A and 6 months of tractor trailer experience to get in. Does anyone know what he meant by technically, is their anyway I can get in with a B. Also, what are the hours like, if I get in would I be working 1st, 2nd and third shifts 7 days a week as a mvo ptf ?

:/m145 MVS WILL train you, on the clock, for your Class A once you transfer and are accepted. All you need is Class B to get in. At least thats all I needed to get into MVS. There is no darkside, carrying that bag was work, this is a skilled position in the eyes of the PO. Barely any labor just a lot of driving, and no time requirements like carrying.

Burnsy,I had to carry for 18 months, plus 90 days more when my PM held me, before I could transfer. My advice is to tough it out, put in the transfer on the date you hit 18 months because MVS is this greatest job in the post office.good luck

Burnsy, I am not sure of the transfer so soon, besides you have to wait for an opening in the MVS where you are. once you are accepted in MVS they would give you a refresher. How much exp do you have driving trucks????

My advise would be continue as a carrier until you find an opening in MVS.

Hey all, I could use some advice. I'm in the beginning part of my probationary period as a city carrier, and I'm thinking maybe this is not the job for me. I possess a CDL Class A and would like to know if it is possible to transfer before my 90 days is up. My license is clean, but I haven't driven a semi in about seven years. Do I need to take a refresher course on my own or will the postal service train me? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

A mail carrier friend of mine recently bought a 1984 AMC FJ-8C postal vehicle which needs a lot of work and some spare parts. Other than vehicle junkyards, what are some sources for replacement REAR BRAKE DRUMS, REAR BRAKE SHOES and a shop MANUAL for the FJ-8C? My friend is desperately trying to find these spare parts but does not have a computer so I have volunteered to help. (This is a revised version of message #137 posted within the past 30 minutes). A female friend of mine who is a mail carrier, recently bought an old 1984 AMC FJ-8C (for mail delivery) which needs various parts replaced. Other than vehicle junk yards, what are other sources for spare parts for the FJ-8C, either new parts or used? Her husband has located several parts from junk yards but is desperate to find other needed parts. Since she does not have a computer, I am trying to assist her without having an ID# or part name!

mvo is level 6, like .40 an hour less. Sounds like i'm making the right move if Philly is anything like your DC. I was looking at the national and read that MVO/TTO are NOT required to work 7 days a week, but can volunteer. I already expect to work holidays being at the bottom of the list. But, with 3 years in already I still get 4 weeks AL, so that helps. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

I have been driving tractor trailers for 18 years, so I really cant say for sure. I have never been in any other craft. But from what I have seen I would have to say yes. what pay level is MVO? TTO are level 7.
we generally get as much over time as we want. or have the option of just running our route and going home after shift is over. also as a TTO you have the option to work all three tours.

Of course if you come in to a TTO spot as a PTF you will work the holidays, and sometimes will/can work seven days a week. So it has it's downside too.

hey trapman
Im assuming as a TTO you have more flexibility in routes you can take and the ability to make FTR quicker. I am in as MVO , July 8 to be exact, my present office held me as Im a carrier. Ill probably get my class A as soon as i can, as long as i get free training, I can drive anything just never got my A. In your mind is TTO a better spot than MVO?

mvo convert,

It took me from dec 04, to may 06 so that's what a year and a half. of course I am a TTO not a MVO. your time may vary. here in STL we have about 120 FTR TTO's and about 20 PTF TTO's and 5 casual TTO's
Main thing here is waitimg for the olders guy's to retire.

danss396,

This Union Steward that tells you this, Is he your craft director? do you have more than one steward on your tour???? If you can not get any action from the steward in your area try a different Union steward in another craft, like the clerk craft. If that does not work get in touch with your locals president. Man I thought we had some issues with our sup's here in STL. but you need someone enforcing the contact, not being buddies with the sup.

If No one is involved with being a steward, then get involved! become a steward, go to the meetings, get to know the contract!!!!!
I have been a union steward here in STL since I got my 1st 90 days in, I just made FTR as of today! in the MVS we have one steward on tour one, three plus the craft director on tour two, and two stewards on tour three. that is just in MVS.

I need some help or advice from seasoned maill carriers on how to drive a rural route of hilly curvy roads and minimize the wear and tear on the braking system! I am struggling with frequent brake jobs and I want to know if and what I may be doing wrong. There has got to be an easier way since so many full time carriers do this every day and seem to have less brake failures than I do as a sub. PLEASE any info would be most appreciated!!!!!

MVO Convert: I worked in MVS for a total of almost 5 years as a PTF, left because I was working 6 days a week and only getting 4 hours or so a night - can't live on that ! May not be like that everywhere. Here PTF's usually work afternoons, start time 14:30 to 15:00.

at least 6 days sometimes 7 if i feel like it it depends on your supervisors, believe it or not ours are really ok,generally i get 52-56 hrs,a week for the last seven years going on 8 ,i get 8-9 hrs a day this summer will get penalty out the ass,but still can;t be forced to work 7 days, can volunteer to,but like i said before the worst day for is is the day we make regular, which will be about next month, then i'll be stuck on a 1530 start time, which sucks now i can kinda switch around work earlier times come in as wad at 11 am work as directed, but when i make regular all the happy times will end

from NAPUS Nov. 9, 2005:
The Postal Service has received authority from the Office of Personnel Management to offer Voluntary Early Retirements (VER) to postal employees (including Postmasters) in areas that were severely impacted by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. The USPS will determine who will be offered VER’s in the storm torn areas of AL, LA, MS, and Houston. Additional information on the VER will be provided as soon as it becomes available.

I hope someone in this forum may be able to give me a recommendation for my vehicle. It has come the time to replace my brake pads on my 2005 Jeep Wrangler that I use on my route. Friends have told me that there are brake pads on the market now which are designed for "severe duty" [police cruiser/delivery vehicles/fleet vehicle use] and that 10,000 miles can be gotten out of them. Would anyone here put their $0.02 in as to where I could find some brake pads like this or be able to recommend a particular brand? Many thanks in advance!

Hi all MVS folks out there. Here in Las Vegas we have an incredible need for TTOs. Our bid cycle is fast approaching and our need for more TTOs is growing. We here need help and fast. I am not sure if I should give out contact stuff here so I won't. Just see your H.R. people to check out our H.R. phone numbers and the jobs in TTO that are ready to fill. I will say this, our GMF/plant is on Sunset Road and Paradise. If you are from out of town and need a general idea of what area of town we are in.

To VMF Mechanic : If your local union rep is not assisting you as they should then go over their head. You can start with the local president, and move up from there until you get a proper response.
