I have managed to put up another show at Cafe Solstice at the Ave. These are pictures from my Paris trip and of flowers in the Seattle area. There are 22 framed pictures in all, taken, matted and framed by me. I have a formal "opening" scheduled for Jan. 17th between 7:00 pm and 9:00 pm. The show is already open, you can visit anytime. The address is: 4116 University Way NE., 206-675-0850.

I hope you can make it to the opening. I would like your feedback.

Guess who just got his gold camera tattoos (right after the excursion, as luck would have it?).

Now I'm thinking I should get electrical zap temp tattoos made, but a minimum order of 1000 means a lot of temporary tattoos.

Hi all,

This man is looking for submissions for his website... send a photo accompanied by 300-1000 words and he'll publish. It's a neat site, very new still.
Take care, Cat (justlaura.com)

http://www.1000words.net

Hello, how are you? My name is David and I am a university student from Melbourne, Australia. [except] Would you like to participate in my project called 'A Picture's Worth' at http://www.1000words.net. It basically invites visitors to share the emotions, memories or creative stories triggered by a photograph of personal significance. The site has been going well so far although I constantly struggle to gather enough interest in terms of visitors and submissions. It would be great if you could spread the word to anyone you know who might be interested in reading or making contributions but more so, would there be a photograph among your collection that you might be inspired to write about? In any case, I would encourage you to have a look at the site to see whether you think it is worth your trouble. It will also answer some preliminary questions.

Thanks for your time and I hope to hear from you.

Kind regards,
David

Apology accepted, Tsugu. I had hoped to hang out with Kat and Ben and Brian some more, but I had been warned in advance that Kat and Ben are kind of shy, so I understood. I will definitely make sure to let everyone know when next time rolls around! P.S. And the Evil Cow has taken another innocent victim. Yes, Jon Johnsons new ambercrombie jeans were laied to rest Saturday night after being horrible goured by that Evil evil cow. Sourses say that the cow may have acted in self defence as whitnesses say that Mr. Jon Jonhson had been riding the bull just seconds before the death of his pants.

Does anyone have a photo of the old "blue gas flame" neon sign that used to be in the Lake Union area before Paul Allen bought the building and took it down. You know, the glowing blue vulva? If you do, please post it to http://www.fotolog.net/seattle. Other Seattle landmarks that still exist, that we should have photos of, include Tacoma Screw Products on Leary Way in Fremont, and T&A Supply on Westlake.

I have a love hate relationship with the jJj cafe down there, because it's a rad little cafe, but I have to look at that evil cow. And it scares me, greatly.

There's a statue (one of many) of a cow in
Kirkland with a Coyote on it's back... I think
"cut" (t_squared's wife, speedy's mom) first
started calling it evil - or maybe I did, or
maybe momotaro started calling all the statues
evil... either way... it's kind of a strange
statue. The locals dress it up for various
occasions and there's nearly always someone
taking a picture of it.

I have changed the passwords for wooden, seattle, and moviesign due to the recent hijackings. The email address for the password is in the profile. Actually the password for Seattle is still the same, it's just not public anymore. But if you already know it, you don't have to email me again.

Blackberries. They already have blackberries in the Bay Area. http://www.fotolog.net/jef/?photo_id=324521 - check it out. There are a lot of blackberry bushes down by the Waterfront Activities Center (where we're going to have our group photo wander on Thursday) but as far as I know they're all new and green as of yet. We'll have to get some photos to compare with Jef's. Latitude makes all the difference, I guess.

The photography meetup is at Barnes & Noble (cafe), 600 Pine St, on Wednesday, July 9 @ 8:00PM. Note that this is not the same thing as the Fotolog meetup... this is for photography in general.

I've gotten some amazing 8x10's with my 1.6MP...
I absolutly love my olympus, may she rest in peices.... Greatest optics ever.
It was a d-460, but the d-490 is actually cheeper on amazon, and has 2.0MP rather then 1.6, but it has the same, amazing optics.

You just have to remember to take all the stickers off your new camera. Otherwise, we just might have to do it for you.

I've got the Canon S50 which is 5MP. The megapixelage isn't as important for Fotolog since we have to resize to 500 anyway, but I think you need at least 4 to get a decent 8x10 print. Anyway, I'm very happy with the S50, or the S45 might do the trick if you don't need as much MP.

I was skipping around my friend, wiedmaier's, website and found the link to this discussion location. How many MP's are y'all running? Also, I am looking into getting a new digicam, any recommendations?

thanks, lalbe

I've managed to steal the famly camera for the summer, and I think that the most visually apealing area is always downtown. But, um, I think I broke my camera... Anyone know much about the Olympus D-460? It fell out of my bag at Dicks, and now won't turn on :( Anywho, Http://www.fotolog.net/wiedmaier is my Photos, but I'm poor and new, so there arn't many. I post tons to my blog as well, http://www.bytecave.net/ryan.

'Ello fellow fotologgers! I am a photo-noob but have a fotolog anyway. I'm starting to expose way more film these days and will keep updating my fotolog @ http://www.fotolog.net/nosuchuserexists. Most of the pics up there now are just a hodge podge of past pics, a lot even before I started snapping more. In the not too distant future they will start being more chronological.

Please put me down to be on the meetup mailing list. Thanks! Happy clicking!

I started a new log at http://www.fotolog.net/seattle for photos of Seattle. It's kind of similar to the pdx log if you want to check that out. Still waiting for it to be given community status so until then it only accepts one photo a day.

I saw an awesome photography show at Rosebud on Pike Street today. Especially interesting to those who are interested in prints from b/w film. The pictures were great and technically impressive too ... how did she print 35mm that large without any grain?

<<Cards are a lot more affordable for the casual passerby to purchase so I think it would be a great way to get people interested in your work if you have a booth at a street fair or something like that.>>

For the record, I already do sell cards and calendars like that (www.katography.com) and so does Momo (www.studiomomo.com), in addition to both of us selling prints. Booths at street fairs can (1) be difficult to get in to and/or (2) can be very expensive -- like in the hundreds of dollars. You have to sell a lot of cards at +/- $3.00 to cover a booth fee. Momo is more set up to do this and I have been gearing up to with stock and the actual booth structure. They are a great idea, but I think that you should ask Momo on whether they are worth it.

I rarely post to these things, so I will shut up now.

Thanks Bagaag .... Seems like a good idea but I don't have any other ideas to add to the thread at this point. I'm unemployed right now so I couldn't really be in on the rent for anything, although I'd be interested in the future. I haven't done studio/lighting work yet but I'm doing a tutoring trade with a local pro who is a very old friend of a good friend of mine - I'm teaching him Photoshop and helping him with his web site. He's going to teach me about lighting next (right now we're working on the zone system and metering).

I'm a member of the photographic center northwest (http://www.pcnw.org) and use the darkroom there. They also have a lot of good (but expensive) classes, and students can use their studio facilities.

I'm sure Kat and Momo could have a show together with their flower pictures. I saw a guy at the street fair in Mt. Vernon who had a lot of really good color macro flower photos and in addition to selling framed prints and matted prints he also had a bunch of those cards that you make by getting the cards at the art store and sticking your 4x6 prints onto them. Cards are a lot more affordable for the casual passerby to purchase so I think it would be a great way to get people interested in your work if you have a booth at a street fair or something like that.

Kathleen posted a link a while back asking Seattle locals to sign up. Katography/Maus and I (bagaag/fisheye) live in Kirkland.

I've been wondering... it seems like a few of the more serious amatures could group together and probably pick up a shared/revolving studio space pretty cheap. Or rent someone elses studio for a period of time to have some themed show (Local Fotologgers or something silly that the media would get all excited about). Thoughts?

btw: bored at work (I'd hope so) ... try this link - it auto loads a random fotolog page every 7 seconds (you can change the rate in the url)... just remember to turn it off before leaving: http://www.wiseley.com/ben/fotolog/default.asp?rate=7

Dru, that's great to hear! That's just what I would like to do. A new cafe just opened up near my house and the owner is really trying to be part of the "community" in the neighborhood, so I asked her and she seemed open to it, but I don't really have enough to go with yet.

Hi Kathleen: First, I would to let you know that I am an amateur as well. I frequent Solstice Cafe all the time, and I jumped at the opportunity when I heard of a public invitation for submissions. It is not as hard as you might think.

Dru, for us amateurs, can you tell us how you got the show at the cafe? Did you know someone or do you just walk in and show them your portfolio? I've been kind of wanting to do this myself once I get enough prints that I am proud of.

I'm here, at Kathleen's encouragement. I'm in Bellevue, been working as a photographer for three years now (part time, at http://www.studiomomo.com), but have shot nature and architecture for years before that. Right now, flowering plants are my thing. Big time. I also go by Brian.

I'm a Fremont gal who enjoyed getting out and taking pictures whenever I can. I've been using digital cameras for the past few years, but just recently discovered the joys of a Holga. If anyone wants to get together for photo outings, let me know. :) Btw, there are two meetups people may be interested in joining:

http://www.photo.meetup.com ==> Seattle folks who get together, share portfolios, and go on outings (we've done parks, tulip festival, u-dist fair, etc)

http://www.fotolog.meetup.com ==> Folks with photos online. We don't do it on the date meetup suggests... but we do get together and talk photos. We're thinking maybe next time we'll choose a theme and make the meeting an active photo shoot.

There's actually another list serve set up for interested Seattle photo folks: We started a Yahoo Group a while back to share photos, info about outings, etc. To join, search for "seattlephotomeetup" on groups.yahoo.com.

Take care,
Cat :)

Hi everyone. I just started this topic so Seattle folks would have a place to discuss stuff that comes up about photos and locations, etc. I don't own this board so really anything is appropriate for discussion. Just remember that there may be people of all ages and backgrounds so try to use kind language and be considerate.
