Who is actually running Symbian these days? I don't mean who is CEO...

Not really. The launch of the Tanager in America annoyed the heck out of Orange UK, but Orange doesn't have a presence in the US, so someone was bound to get a Smartphone franchise there. There was going to be a T-Mobile Sendo Smartphone, remember? and /m4 ignores the fact that most smartphones for the next year will probably be non-Microsoft, so Orange can't have planned to exclude the majority of the market!

Maybe I have a suspicious mind, but I think Orange's decision to work with other phone systems was made easier when their "exclusive" on the SPV was broken by the announcement of the Tanager.

I don't think people will be surprised by Orange sponsoring both Microsoft and Symbian developer conferences. This is a different ecosystem from the PC world, where the mobile operators have the power - not the device manufacturers or the OS developers.

I did notice that there's a special "developer" question. Maybe Symbian is taking developers seriously?
